Jacob Trouba and Jack Roslovic to Toronto for Martin Marincin, Brendan Leipsic and Toronto's 2017 1st round pick (most probably a top 6-7 pick).

The 1st could be really good but not crazy about the 2 players.Marincin is not a good enough defender and The Jets cannot swap their top c prospect for yet another wing prospect.

Leafs would be dumb to do this trade... given they could finish bottom 3.. unlikely but still a chance. Could end up like the Kessel debacle.

Also Jets would be dumb... leafs could surprise and finish top 10. Also..Jets are in a win now situation... they need a player that will help them win.

It's a surprise bag that isn't worth it for either team.

I'd guess that Gardiner is the only player on the leafs that might be able to get the deal done (probably have a small + included with it). Otherwise, what the Jets might want from Leafs is off limits, and what the Leafs might have to offer the Jets, aren't interesting to Winnipeg.

What is Winnipeg's biggest need back? A defensman?

Our of curiosity, besides McDonagh, who would Jets fans want, if anyone, from the Rangers for Trouba? Skeji + Miller has been mentioned in this thread and others, but it's probably not enough going to the Jets.

We're not excited by forwards in general (unless they are a natural C). Miller has played C once upon a time but so have two-thirds of our forwards.

We need LHD, but too many fans not convinced that Skjei has top 4 upside. Same with McIIrath (and he's a RHD). Maybe if both were thrown in with Miller or Zucc & we added Stafford/Burmistrov or a decent prospect (other than Dano, Petan), that might do it?

In general though, we or our GM are in no major hurry. Trouba & his slimy agent really need some time to sweat this out. So yea, some time before late Nov unless a real good deal comes along.

It's interesting that the blame seems to be put on his agent instead of Trouba so much. Or, at least the hate is going towards Overhardt and not Trouba.

Overhardt has a history of causing problems for multiple different teams, Trouba does not. On the other hand, Trouba hired Overhardt. If there's one thing that agents will do, that's doing exactly what his clients want.

No one knows what Trouba wants, to be honest. He could be OK with staying, but money is the deciding factor in some way (most likely related to Trouba's family's business), or he simply doesn't want to stay. All we know is that he's holding out to force a trade, and if there's one agent to make your client look as innocent as possible, it's Overhardt. Because of the past, it's easy to blame him instead of Trouba.

That's why I'm glad to have Trouba sitting out. If a good trade occurs, take it and don't look back. If not, there's no rush to use your best trading chip for someone who isn't helping the team.

The jets shouldnt be in a hurry to trade him. Good player get good value for him. Or wait it out until he re-signs.

Rangers - Anaheim - Winnipeg

With the rumours of Chris Drury and our GM Jeff Gorton personally scouting the Ducks and with the Trouba trade request, how about this?

J.T Miller for Fowler.

Why?

Anaheim clears cap to resign Lindholm and they get an young, promising LWer who scored over 20 goals last season. Anaheim got got young d-men in Vatanen, Lindholm. They got Despres,ä snd great D prospects in Montour, Theodore and so on forth.

Fowler + Klein + 2nd for Trouba.

Why?

The Rangers clears capspace for Trouba's upcoming contract. And they get someone to pair with McDonagh instead of Girardi...

Winnipeg gets an young LD in fowler, signed to an nice deal and shore up their LD. Also get underrated Klein who can play in top 4 if needed. Very good defensively, got an great slapshot.

Also gets an 2nd. Jets are good at drafting, so it might turn into someting.

Fowler - Byfuglien
Enström - Myers
? - Klein

What do you think?

Fowler + Klein + 2nd for Trouba.

Neither of these do anything for WPG. Neither are the top pair D we need and both are UFA before our window to be really successful opens.

Fowler - Byfuglien
Enström - Myers
? - Klein

The numbers don't suggest Fowler is a top pairing D. Buff can make weaker D look good, but overall Enstrom and Myers are probably both better than Fowler. Klein would great in that spot, but bottom pair isn't something you give up premium assets to fill. Plus, given contract i'd rather just keep playing Postma there.

Meh... Miller, Klein and a 2. rounder for Trouba is pretty steep.

Not really. In my opinion the Jets can have their pick of Klein, McI, or Skjei when it comes to Trouba. Obviously the pick would be adjusted accordingly - if Klein we add a 2nd, no pick if we're adding Skjei, etc.

Fowler is almost certainly not being traded now. He just played 26 minutes and registered 1g1a +1. He's way too important to this team and only gets paid 4M dollars. He's the exact opposite of a cap dump.

So a defenseman who's not very good is playing well.. why not sell while the value's high?

Isn't the purpose of moving him to make way for Lindholm's contract?

No. They've been toying with a Fowler trade for the past two years. It predates the current situation. The team's strength is its defensive depth, so it's where you'd move players from to address weaknesses up front. It's possible to accomplish both, which I'm sure they'd consider, but Fowler isn't a contract dump.
