Honestly a baseline of:
Anaheim: JVR
Winnipeg: Fowler
Toronto: Trouba

Makes a lot of sense for all parties with a few additions to be added on a few sides.

Gonna take the leap and risk the backlash.

Anaheim: JVR
Winnipeg: Fowler+Pettersson (2014 38th ovr, 7p as 19 yo defenseman in SHL)+ Conditional 2nd 2019 Ducks
Toronto: Trouba+Stoner

Ducks get their first line winger and clear some serious cap space to re-sign their guys
Leafs get Trouba
Jets get a 2/3 LHD to replace Trouba plus a solid B+ prospect LHD and a pick if Fowler doesn't re-sign

It could happen, because Winnipeg has been awful at evaluating defensemen for years (i.e., Stuart, Strait, Harrison, Ellerby, Jones, Pardy, Chiarot, etc), but if they had a clue, they wouldnt touch Brodin.

What? the Jets didn't invest anything in any of those D those guys were plugs.

There must be 20+ proposals in here of 3 way deals where Toronto gets Trouba.

Has there been any actual rumors of offers\trades talks? Outside of the stuff we make up?

Holland has long pined about how hard it is to acquire a number 1 dman. Either you need to tank for a high pick and hope that dman pans out to be a number 1 Dman or you pay through the nose via trade because those guys dont hit FA

I know Holland has long hoarded prospects and picks, but he needs to give to get here. If he is as desperate for a legit top pairing dman as it has been long rumored, he pony up whether he likes it or not to address the need. As good as detroits pipeline continues to be in restocking the lineup, I feel if they dont address this top pairing D need, they will continue to sit in the mediocre pack for the foreseeable future.

He isnt going to come out the "winner" in any trade for a legit top pair dman, especially a young one, but I think he would be more foolish to not take this opportunity to get one. Its much easier to find and acquire top 6 forwards than it is to acquire top pair dmen, so if the cost is Larkin and a little something else, well thats the price of admission. Knowing Holland though, he might never move on a trade where he doesnt feel he is the clear winner

In that regard, he sounds a lot like Chevy. But seriously, if you've been wanting a top pairing D-man for a while & a top pairing D-man is staring you right in the face here wanting badly to play in or near Detroit how could you not make a deal?

Giving up Larkin would be hard, and I seriously doubt that Chevy is interested in taking on another Overcharge client. So Dekeyser + AA/Mantha sounds like it might be do the trick for both sides?

is the bridge totally burned between Trouba and Winnipeg? Could they trade Myers and keep Trouba?

So, Jets send a Detroit kid back home and bring another Detroit kid to Winnipeg? Can't imagine that DD will be happy to move away from a team he selected because he wanted to play for his home town team.

I think most people will agree with me when I say that this isn't about playing the right side.

He most likely just wants out of Winnipeg all together.

As a Winnipeger, it sucks but at least he's shown his true colors this early.

Dekeyser has a full NTC kicking in next summer, so the only time to move him would be this year. Still, hard to imagine Holland trades a system guy right after handing him an extension and before he plays his first NHL game under the new deal

Yeah, kind of like there were rumors Kane wanted out of WPG but they still re-signed him to an extension, the relationship deteriorated pretty badly and it wasn't good for anyone.

Myers doesn't seem to have an issue in staying there either.

Probably just better off to trade Trouba and get the best return you can.

I hope I don’t regret this, but here goes nothing:

WPG gets: Jonas Brodin, Gustav Nyquist, Ryan Sproul
MIN gets: Riley Sheahan, Alexander Burmistrov
DET gets: Jacob Trouba, Andrew Copp

- Detroit moves out nearly $7M in cap (enough to sign Trouba?), and gets another Michigan kid to replace Sheahan as a bottom-6 center.
- Minnesota gets depth at center, with virtually no change in cap.
- Winnipeg get a top 4 LHD to (eventually) replace Enstrom, a RHD prospect to add to the pipeline, and a solid top-6 RW to push Stafford down to the third line while clearing up some of their logjam at forward. They bring in almost $9M in cap, but send out $2.5M – assuming Trouba was going to get around $6M would make the trade cap-neutral.

So Brodin for 2 mediocre left shot centers? No thanks, I d rather keep 4 top4 defenders after the expansion draft.

Pretty much everybody can see that the reason he gave for asking for a trade was total bs. Which means he either wants out of Winnipeg but didn't have the guts to come right out and say that, or this is all a negotiating tactic and is really the only card he had to play. Maybe make Winnipeg give him a bit more cash to smooth things over and think long and hard before they take him out of the top 4. According to Overhardt they haven't talked contract at all yet, but if/when that conversation happens the comps are rock solid and a deal should come together quickly. Maybe Lindholm + Risto sign for more than market rate based off the Ekblad contract and it moves the needle a bit. We'll find out if it's just a tactic soon I imagine. The Jets are positioned well here but the best case scenario is that he suddenly comes to the realization that playing the left side isn't so bad and he does like the city, organization and teammates, just like he said in the press release so he decides to stay.

20 minutes of very good defense at 4.1M ain't overpaying... but of course... 7 pointz!!!!!

I don't care if he got zero points. The Wild are not good at generating offense (shots) or playing defense (preventing shots against) when Brodin is on the ice. Never have been. He's 7th on the Wild and 107/118 defensemen in the league in posession stats (CF%relTM) over the last 3 years, which is another way of saying he gets his lunch handed to him on the regular.

Myers has been getting prime PP minutes there, while Trouba hasn't.

Yet the morons keep playing the kid. It is almost like they don't have enough defenders in the team...

Of defensemen with 1,000+ minutes last year:

3rd in d-zone starts
Top 15 in GA/60
Top 30 in SA/60
Very average PDO

Bad Corsi comes from the offensive side, but defensively he's right where he needs to be, which is what I said.

And for the record, Wild has one the beefiest analytics departments in the league since (just departed) minority owner Matt Hlzier was a ridiculous stats geek. For example war-on-ice has shutdown because all those guys work for the wild now.

So... The stats thing is probably covered better than 95% of the league.

This is dumb.

Of course the Jets lose something. They lose a top 4 Dman in Trouba and replace him with a worse player.

Why is that hard to understand?

As would be the case if they traded him for literally any of the proposals anyone has offered Jets fans here.

If i were personally Trouba he has 4 more years as a RFA, I would sign a 4 year deal maybe around $4.75 million per taking me up to UFA status and then leave as a UFA free to sign with any team he wants. Right now he's just hurting himself if Cheveldayoff lets him sit for any amount of time. He needs to be playing not sitting.

I wouldn't offer that contract if I were Cheveldayoff. Poor asset management. There's a reason all top-6 forwards and top-4 D sell multiple UFA years when they sign away their last RFA years.

How about younger crop? If WPG is looking at the years to UFA, then a guy like LHD Werenski just might work.

Can't see Kekalainen wanting to deal with Overhardt any time soon. Maybe if he was signed long term, though.

That's where the game of chicken becomes so important.

I'll have you know Trouba's points are down because he's regressing, not because of usage.

I read it on the internet, so...

McIlrath is RHD and Skej probably can't play top4 on the 1st year. Don't see this happening.

(not a WPG fan though)
