Value wise, habs add.......but I don't think Beaulieu is a horrible starting point.

Beaulieu ability and potential are a fair ways below Trouba, so the plus would have to be pretty significant
If it is it's an extremely stupid one that proves absolutely nothing. Acquiring team has to do both, lack of willingness to do both shows nothing what so ever with respect to doing either individually. Nor does being unwilling to do a left for right swap show anything about whether or not opposing gm's think it is "even".

The solution for 2 teams problems:
Winnipeg get:
* Rasmus Ristolainen (Pronger lite)
Buffalo get:
*Jacob Trouba
Winnipeg takes a chance at getting the better(to be seen), meaner defenceman, while buffalo goes for the readier/more sure bet. Both guys have a problem signing contract and Trouba even wants out. Good for discipline too.

Done deal. Ristolainen has a higher offensive upside than trouba imo. Even though he is a righty I would take him in a heartbeat. I don't see us being able to acquire someone of his calibre on the LHD.

And why not? Fowler is exactly what Chevys apparent demand on a return is which is a top 4 LHD.

The vast majority of Jets fans have shot any 1 for 1 trade down involving Fowler. Very little interest in him. Fowler is a poor return, Chevy would never sell Trouba off that low
And? When did having two years on a contract suddenly tank a player's value? Sure didn't seem to set us back when we traded Ryan with that much term on his deal. One year left, sure, because there is a new set of variables that comes into play.

Winnipeg is not the easiest place to keep or attract UFA's. Two years of Fowler for four years of Trouba is not a fair trade. If you doubt that just, post it as a poll.

Within the context of Winnipeg, which is what matters when discussing Fowler to Winnipeg, Fowler's contract then does become an issue.

Yes, anyone under contract for half of the length of Trouba's RFA status. Most teams would see it the same way. You don't seem to, which is your right.
