What's next? If these guys can't use their shoulders to lay a hit then how the hell can they even hit ? Come on man.

This is the shoot out peeps. They don't want to watch a hockey game because of the scary violence. They would prefer that every game just being a shoot out. And if the shooter trips on the goalie trying to score and falls into the boards the goalie should be suspended for "illegal check to the feet".

Why do so many players these days skate with their heads down & forward?

The problem with less physical play in the game today, means fewer players are ready for physical play when it happens.

These "skill guys" that come up in leagues where they are never touched is doing them a disservice.

I am really getting tired of how baby-shit soft the younger generations are becoming.

I feel like there are a lot of you who just don’t want open ice hits. with the mentality of some of you, players should just play with their heads down otherwise any hit wouod be in the head and a penalty.

players need to be more responsible with their body position and how they’re skating, and just realizing who’s on the ice.
I doubt many people would score if they looked at their feet.

This is an emotional reaction not a logical one.

No one wants to see their own player get hurt. Doesn’t make it a dirty hit.
Was it a legal hit? There seems to be some disagreement on it, mainly on the fact that the head was the main point of contact. Some say that it makes it automatically illegal, some say it does not.

Was it a dirty hit. f*** yes it was, and by one of the dirtiest player in the league. And some in this thread are trying to give the dirtiest player in the league the benefit of the doubt.

I think's it hard to weigh the negatives and benefits.

less physical game in lower leagues = Less concussions before they get to the NHL

not being ready for the physical play of the NHL = more concussions.

Looks like a hit to the head to me.

Which is not in and of itself illegal.

Trouba has his skates on the ice, elbow tucked, makes contact to the center of the player's body.

What is he reasonably supposed to do differently on this hit?

problem is always gonna be as long as the NHL allows those hits as legal that's what's gonna go on. Everything Trouba did was textbook...elbows down, step up and lower the shoulder. The sticky part is always being the other guy being in a vulnerable spot because of his own positioning and ignorance, the hit mechanics itself are "fine".

I don't like players getting hurt but it always kinda goes back to "how do you police the game and allow hitting but not THAT kind of hitting", because in no way does Trouba go into that targeting someones head intentionally, this isn't matt cooke (or previous incarnations of trouba!) with a flying elbow to the head, it's a textbook check but if it's illegal than no player is ever gonna know if they try to step up and hit someone else whether they maybe get chest/shoulder or they get the other player in the head because of how fast the game goes and the dynamics.

So yeah...you come down to are we going to allow open ice hitting or not?

And dipping into the blaming the victim pool here but godddaaaaaaaaaaaaamn how do you pull that shit on Trouba's side of the ice

How so many can’t see the last second turn by Barron that caused that is the confusing part. Trouba was coming in for a perfectly legal hit.
You can say this as many times in your head as you want and write that to try justifying it, it doesn't make it true or right.

At the end of the day, Trouba is responsible for laying a hit directly to the head.
Okay lets use your argument that Barron braked on purpose and turned and then Trouba just mows over him hitting him head first. That itself believe it or not, is a wrong hit. And would be even more wrong and targeted.

Some of the old school keyboard warriors just write shit to be internet tough guys.

And no, it doesn’t count as a headshot when a guy throws on the brakes and turns his face directly into a hit.
As much as I want to see open ice hits from Trouba or anyone else for that matter. Its more of a headshot then if you stand still and the guy still can't "hit you right". Then its targeted.
