How can the negotiations not be close? The market has been set between 4.5 - 5.5 for 4-6 years.
Better players than Trouba have signed their deals in that range and he will too.

Would the Jets have any interest in Nurse + 2017 1st, not protected?

Nope Nurse is far worse then Trouba. A simple 1st offers us little value to make up the difference when we're already bursting at the seems with good prospects. Pass

Oiler 1st's tend to be very valuable assets since they turn into 1st overall so often.

I figured with Nurses potential + the first to cover the gap between him and Trouba and since Byfuglien and Myers take up the top 2 RHD spots.

Also allows Jets to go 7/3/1 in expansion rather than 4/4 with Enstrom, Byfuglien, Myers, Trouba.

I totally get the trade not working for the Jets, just my reasoning from an outsider perspective.

Yeah you're going to have to go ahead and explain that.

Career lows in goals and assists, career high in games played. I don't think he had a very bad season at all, but a statwatcher is gonna see the numbers and assume there was big-time regression.

Nope. Jets wouldn't. Do some of you people actually read these posts or just go by the title?

Cuz Lawless who first reported this nonsense, at the same time, said the JETS DO NOT PLAN ON TRADING TROUBA.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend you.

True. The trade gives them a ton of flexibility moving forward. They aren't losing their best player and are gaining the tools improve the club in other areas or at the deadline without even making that pick.

And Turris was asking for $4 M per on his holdout.

Settled for 2 years at $1.3M a couple days before Dec cutoff.

Be prepared for holdout with his representation. It's the exact same scenario.

I guess us Jets fans better prepare, since you say so:sarcasm:

Why isn't that considered nonsense as well?
How many times have we heard a GM say that they have no intention of trading a player but then trades them?
Nothing in this league is set in stone

I would like the Jets to get Trouba locked up long term, but in the scenario that that isn't happening, I wouldn't be upset with that. It's not ideal at this moment though, unless the Jets felt Nurse was very close.

Its not a negative on Wpg. It's a negative on representation. I hope I'm wrong but history indicates to expect a holdout.

Lets be honest, nobody knows, you don't, lawless doesn't, I don't, and more than likely Chevy doesn't either.

Though, from an outsides perspective I would say, Nurse + unprotected 1st for Trouba is a great offer.

It's not...but this team needs a better piece than that inn the here and now. Other wise we have to wait for him to develop to actually become a playoff team. Value wise..I don't think it's bad or anything, but I would prefer Trouba.

The point is that the same source that started this thread is also claiming that the Jets won't trade Trouba. I don't think either is reliable, which I think is a more rational position than thinking that Lawless is right about the contract negotiations but wrong about interest in trading Trouba.

Two words: Kurt Overhardt

That guy would drag out his own kid's root canal if he thought it would net them more money.

It's a start. Just add another prospect like Puljujari & it could work.
2 prospects (as Nurse hasn't progressed beyond that) & that unprotected 1st for a young, top 4 RD that the Oilers need badly.

Yup. And Chevy has a bit of a reputation for being a grinder in negotiations so this was never going to be a quick and easy negotiation. However, if both sides like the idea of a long term deal like they say they do, this will eventually get done.
