Both Drouin and Harmonic were under contract. Trouba can sign an offersheet. Is there one that he could sign that wouldn't be matched? Who knows... but that's certainly an "ounce" more leverage according to my leverage to ounces conversion table here.

And then the Jets gladly accept 4 1st round picks because that's the kind of contract he's going to have to sign if he wants out.

Ryan Murray was the first player that came to mind after reading that tweet, but the Jets would have to add significantly and overpay to make that happen. It's possible, but I don't see it as a Chevy type of move.

Let's just say that said overpayment would get pretty ugly. We like Murray a lot; he's arguably our best stabilizing guy, and he has excellent chemistry with Jones. And that wouldn't actually solve Trouba's off-hand concerns as we've already got Jones and Savard at RHD. We'd basically end up in the same situation Winnipeg is in now, and we'd expect to be paid well for the privilege. :)

Basically, Columbus only works if Winnipeg is willing to take a slight downgrade plus prospect type deal (read: JJ plus someone like Carlsson or Heatherington or Kukan) and we feel like we can profit from flipping a RHD immediately afterwards. It's not impossible, but it's a very unlikely scenario.

They are not directly involved, Trouba to the Ducks makes no sense. But, if the Leafs bounce into Trouba it will be by moving Gardiner, opening up a hole at 2nd pairing LHD making them more willing to help the Ducks with their cap situation. I could also see there being a rare 3-way trade between the teams depending on how all the management teams view Fowler and Gardiner.

What did you have in mind as a 3way

Jets get
Gardiner

Leafs get
Fowler trouba

Ducks get?
JVR

Then picks + prospects + cap dumps to even it out? Sorry it's early didn't really get where you were going

LOL that's not even a 3 way trade. That's just the Leafs making 2 separate trades :laugh:

I think leaving that out is the gamble that makes it worth it for Winnipeg. In my mind as a leaf fan, i compare our team to Buffalo last year. A season used to grow with marginal improvements. Could see us finishing around 8th overall with Trouba filling out the back end. Now it could see disaster and have us finishing bottom 3, but hey thats the gamble. Personally see it hard for a team to find a guy as good as Trouba in next years draft.

Rielly Zaitsev
Gardiner Trouba
Hunwick Marincin
Polak
Carrick

Is that a gamble you really want to take after finishing 30th overall last season, going into the season with 5-10 rookies in the line-up just a few short seasons after missing out on Seguin because they did the exact same thing. The price is Gardiner++, let's hold onto our lotto ticket.

This may be the worst proposal yet

Not the worse, but bad. I think the Habs fan who offer DD & Emelin was worse, both are crappy cap dumps.....then on top of it he was surprised when I said no thx. Haha

At least Marchand is a good player, Chara is just too old now

Chevy's first priority has to be getting an LHD who can take big minutes immediately. The Jets have enough talent in the system, there's no excuse at this point for not assembling a winning lineup.

Second priority is getting good value for the long run.

That's why I like Gardiner + futures and Sekera + futures. Those two D can probably make an improvement over Trouba in the near-term.

For some reason, my gut tells me he's going either to Edmonton or Arizona. Nurse and Chychrun would assumedly be coming back.

On a side note, my gut is never correct.[/QUOTE

If it's Nurse straight up, chevy would be chased out of town by fans with rope and pitchforks.

The scenarios I was thinking about were..

3-way..

Leafs - Trouba + 2nd (From Ducks - From Andersen trade)
Ducks - JVR (50%)
Jets - Fowler + Dermott + 2017 2nd (From Leafs - Highest one)

or

2 seperate trades..

Leafs - Fowler + 2nd (From Andersen trade)
Ducks - JVR (50%)

Leafs - Trouba
Ducks - Gardiner + Dermott + 2017 2nd (Highest one)

Those actually don't look too bad jvr @50 would be amazing for us

Trouba Reilly and Fowler + andersen would really turn your defense around, all 3 guys are good puck movers thst will get your skilled forwards the puck

Marchand is a good player but he's got 1 year left on his contract.

Chara is in his retirement years and is no where near the player he was previously.

Fowler + Rielly + Trouba.

That's a risky D group. The Leafs would need a shutdown specialist to compensate.

im so excited to see what Chevy gets for Trouba. He will hit another homerun

Hopefully it happens very soon so I don't have to keep checking my phone/laptop every 5 mins haha

Would be cool to see Trouba end up with TO, but I just don't see a trade that makes sense. IMO Chayka will pull the trigger on Trouba and solidify the back end in AZ

Risky?

Have you watched Trouba play?

He's not exactly a river-boat gambler.

That would be a very solid Top 3 for the Leafs.

Ok, here is a crazy three way that may be workable, though I think each fan base would have some detractors:

:canes Ryan Nugent Hopkins, Trouba, Nurse, Connor

:edmonton Faulk

:jets Hanifin, Canes' 2017 1st Round pick (top 5 protected, slips to 2018 unprotected)

Alright, hammer away...

If NYR are involved, and Winnipeg insists on a 1 for one deal:

Trouba to NYR

Kreider to Winnipeg.

With the NYR forward depth, that makes sense to me.

Although I would wait for Shatty...
