As an Oilers fan I'd hope he wouldn't give up a ton of assets in a trade two weeks before the season starts for a guys rights, who A) you have no idea what his ask will be from the organization contract wise and B) has the worst agent in the league who's known for having his clients sit out when they don't get what they want.

And I'm sure Overhardt and Trouba's ask wouldn't be outrageous when they know how bad it would look on Chia to have a player he just gave up a **** ton for sit out.

Trouble is a hell of a player but between the timing, the fact he doesn't have a contract, who his agent is and the fact he's requested a trade I can't see the Oilers being interested unless the trade price was heavily discounted.

Trouba's contract demands are likely too big. I think Chia is fully prepared to give McDavid $10 million +. That's why he went and got the cheaper Larson over Subban

Wow, good luck Jacob. Trouba right now is not a $6.0 million player. He shouldn't be making more than Seth Jones, that's for sure.

Absolutely not. His comparable is 4m, slightly more the long term contract.

6million is top15 D contract in the league. Burns gets 5.7, Pietroangelo 6.3, Duncan Keith 5.5.

6mil is not greedy, it is just insane. Out of this world crazy.

Edmonton area Stauffer thinks Trouba gets 5.5 mil. That means you would have your top 3 D locked up for 6-7 years under 14 million which I think is a steal. Still under 20 mil when you include sekera.

Shouldn't be too hard to fit that salary in. Oilers have 9 mil in cap space right now before bonuses. Trouba would only increase that 4.5 while losing a big bonus structure. Next year the Oilers lose another 7.5 mil in dead weight salary.

Cap space and loses to the expansion draft should be the last of the oilers worries.

Edit: this is all assuming Trouba gets 5.5 and not 4.5 or so that he probably will get.

That's IF they have already negotiated it. From my understanding Peg is just selling his rights nothing more.

Why would it be an 'if'? Trouba is a RFA without a contract, he is free to talk to any team he wishes and discuss terms with them.

Trouba won't want to go to Edmonton. He doesn't want to play in a small Canadian market. The usage trope is a smokescreen to save face for everyone.

ceci+1st round pick+lazar/puempel

i would strongly consider that depending on what trouba wants for an extension. Not sure if jets fans like it though

Great that we have an insider on these boards.

So Big Canadian cities are fine? Small American ones? What's the population cutoff?

Ceci plays the right side I think.. seems like an overpayment to me.

Who else are you going to move out to be able to give Trouba $6 million per, Considering that Philly only has $413,000 in cap space.

Streit, but he has a NTC. So MacDonald.

We actually have $1m in space but CF for some strange reason have put an AHL guy as the 24th man on our roster.

Nyquist, Smith, Cholowski and a 2017 1st wouldn't be horrible.

I still think Detroit is in the running because they really need Trouba and he would likely sign a sweetheart deal to play in his home town.

The Jets would need to extract a lot of valuable pieces if they don't get a top D.

Smith is a good short-term LD, but lacks value because he's a UFA after this season. Maybe the Jets could flip Nyquist for another good D prospect.

In any case, more than on team or trade would need to be involved.

The rumour is he wants to be in the states, close to home in Michigan. But I think he would likely take any American city. Although he has no choice in the matter really but if he gets traded to Edmonton he likely sits out unless they overpay him as well.
I think he probably asks for less if he can get close to Michigan.

No because in reality a deal around Beaulieu isn't going to get you Trouba, That's just pure fact considering what other LHD are out there and much better.
So what other LHDS are out there? And why would a team give away a comparable LHD for Trouba and his baggage? Jets are not going to get fair value... A replacementry NHL D , top prospect and a 1st is in the ball park of what he will net if not less...

Hamilton deal would be comparable..

This thread should be thinking who wants to pay him 6mil to play 1st pair Allstar slot D.

******** ask.

and doesnt trouba want to play on the right side?

methot-karlsson
phaneuf-trouba

looks amazing

Trouba is seeking around $6 million per long term and knowing how cheap Melnyk is as an owner doubt he would ever consider having his GM trade for Trouba.

melnyk has opened up his wallet a bit more this offseason (which is crazy surprising lol). I dont think ottawa would have an issue with giving him 6 mill if there is term on the deal

It's been discussed in the Jets boards, and yes some posters do have this "inside" information, whether you'd like to believe it or not.

hahahaha what??

holy cow, trouba just became the most overrated player on this board. with no contract hes worth close to sydney crosby!

Okay so you think as a LHD that Beauliue has the same value as Trouba, Yeah No and Winnipeg has zero use for McCarron and since the Montreal 1st rounder will be in the 20's most likely ask me how this package is good for Winnipeg. There's tons of better LHD out there that Cheveldayoff will try to pry for Trouba. And i bet you Beaulieu isn't one of them.
