I think so too, but their financial situation is questionable.

When the player coming back is Jacob Trouba, no he isn't.

Yeah, he is. Slavin is the Canes 1st pairing LD. Why would they trade him after an incredible developmental year for a 2nd pairing RD (on the Canes Faulk is clear #1).

For me Slavin is more untouchable than Hanifin and Faulk.

Well his stats sure don't support that sentiment.

Because we have such a big sample size to go on, also NYR was among the 5 worst teams defensively in the league the past season, hardly a good situation to come in and get a few games.

I can say the same thing for Reinhart. Those two are the exact same age.

The only thing that Skjei has over Reinhart is less pro experience.

It's a fair enough argument. And yes, Slavin looked awesome when I saw him last year, but Winnipeg doesn't have to take less. As an Oiler fan, I personally wouldn't part with Nurse (for different reasons, obviously), but that doesn't mean Winnipeg wouldn't force your hand.

I truly believe the following is a legitimate proposal that solves 3 teams immediate needs and should work for everybody cap wise(more or less)

NEEDS:

Ana: Top 6 winger

Wpg: LHD

Det: RHD

Deal:

To Ana: Nyquist + Smith/Pulks/Jurco/Turgeon/Sadowy/2017 2nd.

To Wpg: Fowler + Det 2017 1st.

To Det: Trouba

I'm not saying that Trouba will ever be a Norris winner, but I can see him on our #1 pair with DDK at least for the next 5-6 yrs. I am also willing to overpay for him as well. If I'm Holland, any and all assets not named Mrazek, DDK, Larkin, AA and Mantha can be made available to make these 2 deals work. This includes any roster players, expansion exempt prospects(i.e.:Saarijarvi/Svechnikov) and as many 1st and 2nd rd. picks. as needed. This is a doable deal Ken-make it happen.

Fails because Anaheim is trying to shed cap and salary in a Fowler trade (so they can retain Lindholm and Rakell), and you have them adding considerably to both.

Rangers should not trade Skjei, Im a Jet fan, so SKjei is Always welcome, good skater, probobly tops out as a second pair D-man

In that case, Skjei has topped out. Expect a top 4 D performance from him this year.

As a Rangers fan, I wouldn't trade Skjei straight up for Trouba under normal circumstances but given weakness on the right side is probably do the one for one.

So Jets fans, how close is Brady Skjei + J.T. Miller or Brady Skjei + 1st?

Regardless of this offer, where are the Rangers going to dump the (minimum) 4-5 million that it will cost to re-sign Trouba immediately? They're less than 2M under the cap. Why does Winnipeg take Miller? Even if they did take Miller, NYR still can't afford Trouba's deal unless he took a below value offer for a year and they'd still be in cap hell this season with no flexibility.

I can't see the Rangers pulling it off unless they can dump salary and its unlikely anyone does the Rangers a solid at this point unless they offloaded a player of merit that carries salary, which drives the cost to obtain Trouba up further. Earlier in the offseason it'd be easier, but this close to the season starting its much tougher.

Would Trouba for Hamonic straight up be a fair deal for both or is there a need to add? Hamonic isn't quite the same level as Trouba is (or might be) but he is only like 2-3 years older and on a good contract (sub-4M cap hit) until 2020.

Good D's are worth a lot but unfortunately the teams which need D the most have only forwards (mainly wingers) to send back, and Winnipeg has plenty of those already. They need to get a quality Dman back.

Toronto 2nd round pick this year if he wants 7 mil aper year.

And how are Toronto affording him? What/who/where are they dumping the cap to pay him that 7? Its not as easy as assigning someone to another team.

There are not many teams that can move assets that dont cost against the cap right now and fit Trouba's new deal. It will cost more for teams that can't afford Trouba's cap hit since they need whatever # he gets (5-6-7) immediately and have to offload salary.

Your offer is unrealistic alone, but the financials make it impossible unless this drags on and Lupul is granted LTIR. Toronto will lose roster players if Trouba wound up there.
