Question for Jets fans regarding a potential trade with the Leafs.

We know you want to get a D back the other way, probably a RHD.

Would you go for JVR + Carrick?

But could they trade for him?

You can add Detroit as having interest in him and then immediately take them out of the mix due to their cap situation.

So I've got Arizona, Minnesota, Edmonton and Carolina as 'realistic' suitors. Teams that possess the LHD that Winnipeg is likely seeking, the available cap to sign Trouba and the need in the top 4 for a RHD. All of these currently without having to move a ton of pieces.

Who else can be added?

NYR and Anaheim are wild cards for me. You never know what happens with Lindholm, and NYR might want to go down the retool route (although this is unlikely too). Edmonton is a good add to the list, Carolina... not so much. Boston has the prospects to make a deal go through, with decent enough adds. Philly definitely has the pieces (and given the likelihood of getting a prospect back, we could even take a small cap dump now). Dallas was a brainfart by me, I got Klingberg's handedness wrong. Minnesota is semi-wild card.

So my list is Anaheim, Edmonton, Philly, Boston, Arizona and Toronto, then Minnesota, NYR and Carolina as lesser likely places. Those teams make an awful lot of sense for Trouba and the Jets. That should be enough for us, anyway.

No forwards. Gardiner + Dermott is something I would do.

In Dec 2015 it was reported that Trouba's ask was $7M. So from December to May obviously negotiations weren't going well. Trouba saw the RD side still full and officially asked for a trade.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...jacob-trouba-free-agents-asking-term-million/

Ladd "wanted" 6/41, signed 7/38.5

Buff "wanted" 8/55, signed 5/38

Trouba "wants" 8/56 will sign for ???

What they first ask for in negotiation and what they sign for are never the same number.

Quick scan through the teams, it looks on the surface like Carolina could be the best fit. He'd fit nicely. On the 2nd pairing behind Faulk, they have the cap space and plenty of good young LD to send the other way.

No GM is trading for Trouba until they find out how much it'll cost to ink him

GMs already know. He's a free agent and can talk contract with whoever he wants.

Trouba said the issue has never been money. His agent said he's keen on facilitating a trade to get Trouba where he wants to go.

There is very little evidence that contract demands will affect a trade. It's all about Chevy getting his trade price.

Thanks captain obvious. For months he's been asking for 7 million a year.

He is not getting 7 mill from anyone, per year. The Coyotes just signed Murphy for under 4 mill for 6 years and he was actually playing top pair minutes. Trouba, as an RFA will be in the same range, maybe a little more with whatever team he plays with next year. I doubt it starts with a 5 per year or more. I think he just wants out of the Peg, knowing he can't maximize his value there playing behind Buf and others at times or the left side.

Gardiner had a gods season, so some Leaf fans will be hesitant.

That being said, I project Trouba ends up the best of all three. So I would make that deal. 2nd pairing LHD is much easier to come by.

Jets also have a surplus of forwards. I could see Trouba plus someone for the player(s) or player/prospect they want.

Possible forwards available:
Burmistrov, Stafford, Lowry, Copp, Petan, Dano...

Slavin is untouchable and Hanifin wouldn't go without a significant add from WPG. For Carolina you'd be looking at more future/near future options like Haydn Fleury or Jake Bean. Although I do agree that Carolina could use a RD with Trouba's attributes.

I think so too, but their financial situation is questionable.

When the player coming back is Jacob Trouba, no he isn't.

Trouba's one of my favorite players and would love to see him on the Rangers. Just don't have the pieces. How much would Jets fans value a return of local boy Dylan Mcilrath? ;)

I never said it was. I know how contract negotiations work. I'm just stating the $7M isn't some random HF number made up.

Trouba Trade

I truly believe the following is a legitimate proposal that solves 3 teams immediate needs and should work for everybody cap wise(more or less)

NEEDS:

Ana: Top 6 winger

Wpg: LHD

Det: RHD

Deal:

To Ana: Nyquist + Smith/Pulks/Jurco/Turgeon/Sadowy/2017 2nd.

To Wpg: Fowler + Det 2017 1st.

To Det: Trouba

I'm not saying that Trouba will ever be a Norris winner, but I can see him on our #1 pair with DDK at least for the next 5-6 yrs. I am also willing to overpay for him as well. If I'm Holland, any and all assets not named Mrazek, DDK, Larkin, AA and Mantha can be made available to make these 2 deals work. This includes any roster players, expansion exempt prospects(i.e.:Saarijarvi/Svechnikov) and as many 1st and 2nd rd. picks. as needed. This is a doable deal Ken-make it happen.
