OK, makes a bit more sense now. 1 of Buff/Myers/Trouba has to play on the left. Myers is bad on the left. TBH I'm not sure why Buff doesn't take the left side. He is a rover anyway so it seems natural to me. I have probably had it explained to me half a dozen times but it doesn't stick. It may be as simple as Buff doesn't want to do it. He has seniority over Trouba.

Whatever the reason it has been decided that Trouba should be the one to play his off side and he has done it quite well. A bit of a negative for him but the upside is he gets to play with Buff. I'd bet that there are a lot of good young D in the league who would like to play with Buff. He should be happy - but he is not. The **** show follows from there.

I'm thinking that playing the off side is not the real reason that he wants out of WPG.

Thats too much coming from Carolina if I am remembering the names right

Eh, maybe, but trades are never dead equal.

That said, Slavin, IMO, is damn close to Trouba's level. Murphy is about out of options and could use a change, McKoewn is a solid prospect.

Armia is almost out of options, but has skill and size. Maybe the Canes can get a player out of him surrounded by young Finns.

What would WPG be looking at coming back? Likely a Dman?

EDM is probably out of the running due to contract demands, can't see us being able to afford his ask with Drai and McDavid contract extensions coming up. But I am curious what WPG is looking for.

None of this "I just want to play the right hand side" thing makes any sense.

In fact, very little of this entire Trouba situation makes any sense at all. I'd like to know the real story behind what's going on here.

Maybe he doesn't want to play for a ****** coach who thinks Myers is better than him :dunno:

What if you guys moved Myers? It sounds like the issue is Trouba feels like he's buried on the depth chart and want to play on his proper side.

Its not THAT far off but I think if those 3 are coming from Carolina, it needs to be a stronger prospect than Armia. In fact, IIRC, Armia has fallen off a bit in terms of opinions on his future.

That is too much. We have no one left on the right side if one of the three at the NHL level were to go down with an injury, plus you are giving up three cost controlled players for a guy asking for top dollar. And, it doesn't substantially upgrade our defensive talent.

Personally, I think Slavin is more untouchable than Hanifin. He plays better and has less name recognition for a trade. If we are going to trade any of Slavin, Hanifin or Faulk, we need to get back some impact, top line forwards...preferably a center. I posted this in the first thread:

:canes Ryan Nugent Hopkins, Trouba, Nurse, Connor

:edmonton Faulk

:jets Hanifin, Canes' 2017 1st Round pick (top 5 protected, slips to 2018 unprotected)

It moves a lot of pieces and would be hard to swallow, but it would greatly upgrade our first line talent at the cost of a moderate drop of our defensive talent.

After that radio interview just now it's pretty clear that the right hand issue is not the reason. Where there is smoke there is usually fire. I think the rumour that Trouba wants to be in the US is what is going on. It comes from some reliable sources on the Jets board that have no reason to lie.

Beaulieu and Scherbak for Trouba and Lemieux?

Beaulieu makes $1 million Scherbak makes $800,000 Montreal has less then a million and Trouba is seeking around $6 million per long term so how does Trouba fit in this cap structure and with Weber and Petry already on the rightside where does Trouba fit in. Because he wont be going to Montreal to be playing the leftside like Winnipeg.

Can we replace Connor with Petan?

Replace Connor with Petan and remove the Canes 2017 1st.

The only possibility I can think of is Nurse +.

But Nurse is expansion draft exempt and cost controlled. Dear Lord, could you imagine Buff and Nurse on the same team? :amazed:.

We're likely out of the running, can't afford the contract.

I heard it too. His agent danced a mazurka around answering any concrete questions, especially about why Trouba wants out. He wouldn't definitively answer anything about the handedness issue and basically just gave weak reasons. Reading between the lines (but not really), it sounds like Trouba doesn't like the coach, doesn't like his usage, and probably just wants out of Winnipeg in general.

If the Jets do play hardball it will be interesting to see if Trouba caves and signs...but listening to that interview I'm not so sure. If he's set on leaving Winnipeg no matter what, the Jets might want to move on from the entire distraction as quickly and reasonably as they can, because that bridge might be burned.

Yeah keep hearing the rumors that he wants to play close to home near Detroit as possible, Maybe Detroit, Columbus Pittsburgh. He's training at home in Detroit pretty sure that would be his first choice more then likely.
