Replace Connor with Petan and remove the Canes 2017 1st.

For me, the whole purpose of the three team trade was to upgrade Carolina's first line forward group. The way I structured the deal doesn't require us to do them in tandem, but for the Canes, I think that either we get two highly skilled forwards for the loss of our defensive talent and potential, or we just stand pat. It is a situation for the Canes where it is an opportunity if it can happen, but part of the deal only makes us worse. So I would decline the trade as Connor can't be included.

Can we replace Connor with Petan?

The Hurricanes are giving up Faulk and Hanifin. Basically, a current #1 defensman on a great contract, and a future (quite possible) #1 defensman on an ELC. The value they are giving up there is absolutely insane. I don't think downgrading a lot from Faulk to Trouba (and when you add the contracts it's massive), and swapping Hanifin for RNH, is made up for by must offering Nurse and Petan, even if you take Carolina's first out of it. I take the top two defensmen in really nice contract situations, and it's not even close.

That is too much. We have no one left on the right side if one of the three at the NHL level were to go down with an injury, plus you are giving up three cost controlled players for a guy asking for top dollar. And, it doesn't substantially upgrade our defensive talent.

Personally, I think Slavin is more untouchable than Hanifin. He plays better and has less name recognition for a trade. If we are going to trade any of Slavin, Hanifin or Faulk, we need to get back some impact, top line forwards...preferably a center. I posted this in the first thread:

:canes Ryan Nugent Hopkins, Trouba, Nurse, Connor

:edmonton Faulk

:jets Hanifin, Canes' 2017 1st Round pick (top 5 protected, slips to 2018 unprotected)

It moves a lot of pieces and would be hard to swallow, but it would greatly upgrade our first line talent at the cost of a moderate drop of our defensive talent.

If the Oilers have any desire to ice a competitive team this season they need Nuge or at the very least, a center coming back in that deal that has a strong two-way game. They don't have anything NHL caliber in the pipeline at C to backfill Nuge's absence if he is traded.

Replace Connor with Petan and that looks very good.

I heard it too. His agent danced a mazurka around answering any concrete questions, especially about why Trouba wants out. He wouldn't definitively answer anything about the handedness issue and basically just gave weak reasons. Reading between the lines (but not really), it sounds like Trouba doesn't like the coach, doesn't like his usage, and probably just wants out of Winnipeg in general.

If the Jets do play hardball it will be interesting to see if Trouba caves and signs...but listening to that interview I'm not so sure. If he's set on leaving Winnipeg no matter what, the Jets might want to move on from the entire distraction as quickly and reasonably as they can, because that bridge might be burned.

Agreed. We need to get out away from this kid as soon as possible.

Yeah keep hearing the rumors that he wants to play close to home near Detroit as possible, Maybe Detroit, Columbus Pittsburgh. He's training at home in Detroit pretty sure that would be his first choice more then likely.

I think that's exactly whats going on but admitting it would make him public enemy #1 in the Peg. Not that anyone is buying it anyways.

What? They have MCDAVID and Draisaitl. What more do you want?

Yeah, but I still think that the Jets clearly win that trade. I would absolutely take that deal, run away, and never look back.

edit: I could be overvaluing Slavin and Murphy though.

Well Murphy has potential still, and McKeown is a good prospect.

I guess if anything it's:

Murphy for Armia

Slavin and McKeown for Trouba.

Yeah we can't lose both Nuge and Nurse.

Nuge plays our heaviest match ups and Nurse is expansion draft protected, plus he's cost controlled. Nurse being a guy who we can have on the cheap is important with Drai and McDavid due for a raise.

Reading through this thread, the only two realistic purposals I've seen so far (taking into account the cap and needs) are

Gardiner+ for Trouba
Del Zotto + Sanheim for Trouba+Petan

Trouba would need to sign for no more than $4m for that to work.

And there's already tons of speculation from some insiders that Trouba wants to play close to home near Detroit as possible. And Carolina is close to Detroit how.

Speculation.

Or maybe I could come up with a prosposal from Toronto, Buffalo, Columbus, Detroit, or Chicago?

I could probably come up with something that helps nobody.

Grasp at those straws.

MacDonaugh>> Trouba
Sheiflle > 2nd
seems to even out
MacD could be the LH defenseman your looking for

It's not even close mate. You're suggesting a 22 year old #3 defensman with good potential, and a 23 year old #1 centre, for a 27 year old #1 defensman who is very good, but is not in the top tier of defensmen (the Doughty's, Keith's, Hedman's, etc.)...which means it's an absolutely terrible proposal.
