this is helllla random. but let’s say hypothetically Patrik Laine is re-signed (he’s a pending RFA) after this season. would you guys be willing to part with TZ in order to get Patty?

i’m not suggesting these teams should do this trade. seriously just curious about how much y’all value TZ and your thoughts on his potential compared to what Laine has shown so far.

sorry dude, appreciate your offer but there’s just no shot of us trading z. Especially for a package around laine.

Zegras is the best shot at us having a franchise center since we drafted Getzlaf. Trading him for anything other than another franchise player (which Laine is not) would be 5 steps backwards

I think the Blue Jackets might have a player whose potential is similar to Zegras in Kent Johnson, whom Columbus has stated will be playing center for them despite him playing wing at college. Johnson oozes elite skills, but his transition to the NCAA isn't translating well as he's trying to learn how to play with a team as opposed to hero ball with the puck.

With that said, I'm not trading Zegras at all. As others have mentioned, the center position is very important to the Ducks because it's their future on the line. Zegras, McTavish, Lundy, and Groulx look to be the future down the middle. When Laine was available to be traded at the same time Pierre-Luc Dubois was being dangled, the Ducks went after PLD because he's a 1C/2C.

I think that is one of the huge problems. Laine needs someone to make him better, Zegras makes the other people around him better. Z won't be a Crosby/McDavid who could do it all on their own, but if he has a couple of solid guys around him, he'll put up points (see Milano). That being said, I would love to have Laine finishing passes from Zegras... I'm just not sure there would be a deal to be made that both teams would agree to.

More likely he works his way to UFA and we try to sign him.

Who woulda thought he would average more shots a game than Caufield to start the season.

thank you for all the replies! I wasn’t making a proposal to trade Laine for Zegras lol, some thought I was. I never ever make proposals on HF lol. that’s not my place. I was just simply gauging your guys’ opinion on zegras’ potential compared to what Laine has shown thus far :) that’ all.

btw, I picked up ‘Z’ and Dry in fantasy hockey today (8 team league). big ducks fan this week, except on thursday night :D

Haha it’s all good… as you can see zegras has already become a fan favorite

Caps fan who has been really impressed with zegras in both of the games vs anaheim so far, but wondering what you all make of the fact that he has the worst +- of -8 on the team? Is defensively play a weakness for him? What do his deployments/QoC generally look like?

He's 20 years old playing against the other teams best lines and defensive pairings while playing with the worst defensive player we have on the entire roster.

Has assists on each of those goals for another multipoint game giving him 21 points in his 24th game that still has 3rd period left to play. So excited about his offensive production :popcorn:

Did things in a hurry since I'm trying to watch the game too so it may not be perfect.
