Why carry three goalies?
So Keefe can run a 10-7-3.

I don't know why people keep posting this, there's no cap room to keep Murray and Woll, let alone Murray and Samsonov. Hell there's barely enough room to keep Samsonov and Woll, in all likelihood.

why isnt there?

Bertuzzi Matthews Marner
Jarnkrok Tavares Nylander
Lafferty Kampf Domi
Clifford Holmberg McMann

Rielly Brodie
McCabe Klingberg
Giordano Liljegren

Murray
Woll

is currently a cap compliant roster. so without making another move other then waiving Timmins or trading him for futures and waiving Reaves is all that currently needs to be done to be cap compliant this roster has 15k of cap space with Muzzin on LTIR, and I'm sure later in the summer we could sign a vet fourth liner for the same money as Clifford so he doesn't need to be on the opening day roster. then once the someone gets hurt we can then bring up others and run our real roster with Knies/Reaves etc.

This isn't going to happen and anyway starting the season with 15k cap space and no room whatsoever for short term injuries/spare players on road trips is a terrible idea.

lots of teams start with only 20 players until someone gets injuried to give them more space, also when you think about it how many weeks of a NHL season is a team completely healthy. probably not many. 1-2? so there's your cap relief. also when Murray gets hurt you can use that full 4.7 million as your deadline cap space.

also I didn't say they were going to do some of the stuff I posted you stated we couldn't keep Murray as we are over the cap. I just wanted to show you with minor moves it is possible to be cap compliant with Murray because that view is incorrect.

I'm pretty much expecting a buyout at this point. If there was any chance of a trade, it would have happened before or very early in the free agency period. Now everyone's spent the cap space that they want to spend.

Even with a buyout and signing Samsonov, how much money do we think we're gonna have? 50K? It's probably going to be incredibly tight and cause problems either way.

(Not suggesting we should keep Murray).

Hey why dont we try him on defense and hope he retires. This was a stupid trade from the get go. Everyone knew Murray was worn down and finished.

Don’t forget , whatever Samsonov gets in arbitration or settles for, or did you waive him after settlement, with the other guys?

After all the huff and puff it’ll be Murray + Islanders 3rd to Chicago for a 7th or something

Traded him you couldnt just waive him because his whole salary would not come off the cap, I’m sure someone would be interested in him. Don’t think that would be a hard sell

Has to be a trade now. 2nd buy-out window expired. Maybe tre is going to get him thrown in on a trade with Nylander for Erik Karlson?

Pretty sure it doesn’t matter? Once you are in LTIR you don’t accrue space. They have to get as close to the limit to get full value

The second buyout window opens Wednesday. They have to put him on waivers ASAP if they choose to buy him out.

Why give up assets? Word is they weren’t able to buy him out which means he’s injured….. which means a year long stay on LTIR.

3rd day after final arbitration settlement for 48 hours, yes. Window opens mid-afternoon Wednesday through Friday.

There is no “word on this”. It’s a pipe dream on the internet. Nothing suggests he is injured other than our own fantasies. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love it to be true, but I have not personally heard anything to suggest it to be true beyond “he is often hurt, just LTIR him”, which is not actually a reason. But here’s hoping.

They have to buy him out I think. HAVE TO. I don’t think you can take the Leafs cap problems to the trade table and wind up with any result other than getting taken to the cleaners.

“Hey, other random GM, you want this guy with lots of real money due at his lowest trade value ever? We’ll give you a 1st?”

“Ya no, need more. What no? Sure, call back if you change your mind. Good luck with it.”

They can’t place thier cap fate in the hands of other gm’s. Can’t. I hate, hate, buyouts, always have, but I don’t see a way around this one.

Freidman brought up in one of his last hits that he heard that there were issues with Toronto wanting to buy out Murray and there’s concerns about his health.
