He just needs to be healthy for a day to cause issues.
Well then I hate to say it, but team doctors will just simply have to fail him based on previous injuries and the long term risk playing ice hockey presents to his long term health. It’s obviously not the ideal outcome, but we’ve also seen guys like this (robidas lupul etc.) end up just going away. I for one won’t be concerned about this until there’s news to the contrary of what I said (IE that he’s adamantly healthy and ready to kick ass at training camp)

This the last day to buy him out?

Buyouts Outside of the Regular Period

Clubs whom have 1 or more arbitration filings may be permitted to perform a buyout outside of the regular window. This gives teams another opportunity to become cap compliant following an arbitration case.

Clubs are permitted to perform a buyout outside the regular period during the 48 hour period beginning on the third day after the final of [CBA 13(c)ii]:
  1. Settlement of the Club's final arbitration case, or
  2. Receipt of the Club's last arbitration award

If I'm understanding this correctly, the Leafs have to place him on waivers today in order to execute the buyout tomorrow because tomorrow is the 2nd day of the 48 hour window. Today is the 3rd day after Samsonov received his arbitration award, so the window should be from today until tomorrow.

And Friday

Who gets traded Murray or Sammy?
You post that likes there is an option.
Murray has extreme negative value. So much so they will buy him out if healthy. No trade. If he is not healthy he goes on LTIR for the season.

If you keep Murray as your goalie and trade Sammy you would be looking at Woll as your #1 goalie.

Murray to Robidas Island.

Best news I have had all day...WE LOVE YOU TRELIVING

Hope you are right, but stranger things have happened.

Well seeing as he's now on LTIR for the season..........

As expected, and there goes one less problem.

$1,293,950 over the cap now.... before any trades, or moves. Not too bad, so we shall see how this is handled.

Shouldn't that put them about 2 million over? Where did they lose the extra 700K?

Awesome sauce. Grab a life jacket Matt, you and I are going for a paddle. No no, don’t worry about anything.

Thrilled to be wrong on this. Cool stuff.

He has hinted that he gets a second buy out window if someone files for arbitration.

A buy out free's up about 4.5 million in salary. I think this was his plan all along. Give some money to Sammy and get rid of Murray.
And this is why I asked you for a link.

Gambrell is listed on Capfriendly. He's destined for the Marlies.

And/or Robertson currently shows as being on IR (I.e. the 13th or 14th forward and still counting against the cap).

Take out the Reaves contract and our group could've been ready to go with space for a league minimum deal to any FA open to it later in the summer.

Now, unless other moves are made, we'll have to either waive Timmins or play 11/7. I personally prefer not having Reaves to those two options.

I don't see any other options/moves on defense or forward (barring a major shake-up) that improve us. Jarnkrok and Brodie have been talked about, but we're not improving on them for a smaller caphit without giving up other assets.

Lafferty doesn't move the needle (we'd still be ~150k over the cap if we traded him).

Guess we'll wait and see what is going to happen, I just would've liked the make-up of the roster and Timmins as depth if we took out Reaves.
