why isnt there?

Bertuzzi Matthews Marner
Jarnkrok Tavares Nylander
Lafferty Kampf Domi
Clifford Holmberg McMann

Rielly Brodie
McCabe Klingberg
Giordano Liljegren

Murray
Woll

is currently a cap compliant roster. so without making another move other then waiving Timmins or trading him for futures and waiving Reaves is all that currently needs to be done to be cap compliant this roster has 15k of cap space with Muzzin on LTIR, and I'm sure later in the summer we could sign a vet fourth liner for the same money as Clifford so he doesn't need to be on the opening day roster. then once the someone gets hurt we can then bring up others and run our real roster with Knies/Reaves etc.
What do you do with woll he is not waiver exempt
He will be claimed
Timmins will be claimed
Now you are losing a lot of depth

Even with a buyout and signing Samsonov, how much money do we think we're gonna have? 50K? It's probably going to be incredibly tight and cause problems either way.

(Not suggesting we should keep Murray).
If Murray is bought out Leafs would still be over the cap. Knies to AHL for small savings, use the cheapest forwards, Timmins to waivers (not going to happen), and they are still 343k over the cap with 20 man roster.

Already late to free agency (not many teams with room) and Murray has to be paid ~6 million in actual salary which I think is the biggest thing if you see Murray as purely a draft pick how much should you get for 6 million? Murray also has a 10-team NMC which means he can pretty much block the potential teams because his contract is ending and if he wants to play it's more likely that he would want to play in a good team. He already blocked trade to Buffalo before when he was in Ottawa.

Going to be very interesting to see how Trevliving handles this. Buying Brodie out would clear all the space but Brodie is actually a good defender and then you would still have to waiver Woll or Samsonov. I'm going to assume he has a plan since he paid Kämpf, Klingberg, Domi, and Reaves ~11m which are less core players than Brodie imo.

Freidman brought up in one of his last hits that he heard that there were issues with Toronto wanting to buy out Murray and there’s concerns about his health.
Freidman most of the time basically tells everyone what we already know, and speculate's on possibilitie's and make"s them up like we do. He's a master at this as if he's the only one linked to what's going. I can't stand listening to him
for those reasons. Listen very carefully when asked about his opinions and what he has heard. Is it any different information and thoughts to what we already know? Ok on very very few occasions he come's out of nowhere with a breaking storing mostly though from other media sources that have come out with it first, 99% of the time it's mostly speculation, great actor, and a total fraud.

#1 why in the bluest of blue Hells would they keep Murray over Samsonov?

#2 they aren't going to sign Reaves to a 3 year deal just to waive him before he plays a game

I find being over the cap in the summer very stressful.

I just want to sit on the deck with a nice Pinot or a cold beer and appreciate the garden, but no, I have to calculate trade and buyout scenarios.

I‘m assuming that Murray is the first domino here this week. We will see.

I’m probably in the minority but I don’t worry about this stuff at all.

It's July, no you don't have to do that.

Math sucks there doesn't need to be math involved in this

Pull a Kucherov, run the year with Sammy and Woll and if either fail in the playoffs give Murray his shot.

And did Knies retire or not good enough?

Yeah, I’m not a fan of Friedman either and for the same reasons you stated. Not to mention that his sense of “style”, is atrocious! Nice scaredoo!

Buyout window opens mid day today through to Friday.. so he has to be placed on waivers today or tomorrow. We'll find out shortly.
Would you guys rather a buyout or give up a draft pick to have him off the cap entirely for the next two years?

We all make choices

Neither, but they had a few pops over holiday weekend in July and spent 6 million on Klinberg and Reaves.

They need every pick and every resource they can muster to use when they finally get cap space in couple of years, so now the best option is a buyout.

He could be injured and not miss the entire season.
Kick the can down the road and deal with it then, the guys a band-aid any likelihood of him being available for any extended time period is simply not something anyone can even really pray for let alone expect.
I’m sure any mlse team doctor can fail him on his physicals just based on his concussion and lower body problems.

He just needs to be healthy for a day to cause issues.

I haven't really thought of LTIR as a real possibility, but from Murray's perspective it could make a bit of sense to stay on for the year.

He's had a number of concussion issues so it's easy enough for him to stretch the truth and say he's still feeling the effects. Heck, I'm sure there's even some sort of surgery he could get considering the injuries he's had.

The biggest question for him is, why? Well, he gets paid more if he's LTIR over buyout. I'm sure alot of people would lie for a couple million dollars. I also doubt he's able to make up the difference signing with someone now. Rosters are mostly set and teams are cap strapped.

Again, I'm not saying it's likely or I think it'll happen, but maybe Murray likes the idea of getting a year of rest, whatever medical bills paid for by the Leafs, access to their coaches and facilities, and an extra couple million dollars (or however much it is.) It allows him to go into next season completely healthy with a rising cap.

If he signs with someone this season for league minimum and gets injured again, maybe it's the end for him. I'm sure with the rising cap he can sucker some team into giving him a 2-3 year contract next offseason if he's healthy.
