We're currently 18th in the league in goal differential at -4, certainly could be better, but not what you expect from a team that's .480 after tonight's game. Bos, Phi, col and STL are all 500 or better and double digit negative goal differential.

Sometimes the standings are about getting timely defense and timely scoring, moreso than good scoring and good defense.

Imo, we are the opposite of a team that gets timely scoring and defense, but we aren't bad defensively or offensively overall.
That 8-1 win really helped their differential.

Sure, and the 5-1 loss to Buffalo and 4-0 losses to Car hurt it, lots of teams have had big wins, Seatle beat Mtl 8-2, Was beat Stl 8-1, NYR beat Mtl 7-2, Jets beat Edm 6-0. TBL beat Col 8-2,TbL beat SJ 8-1, and the list goes on, it's cherry picking to single out Ottawa routing a team if you aren't willing to do the same for the other 31 teams.

Kind of an annoying press conference. Doesn’t seem concerned about special teams and losing another game we should have won. I get it, the team played well, but at some point you need to win that 3rd game.

Throw in actual GF and GA and it'll matter. xGF/xGA are about what you'd expect over 82, not what is currently being delivered. What's currently on display is what has people riled up.

I dunno he is kind of siding with the players here, I am fine if the sens come out like that every game. He did admit the PK clearly needs work.

Here's the problem I have with his approach. I know he's new and he's going to get a bit more leash, but this is pretty much the same fan experience we've had for seven years.

Every presser's been "I thought we played well" and losing records.

To be fair, he’s already talked about the PK and how they’re trying to teach them because there’s a lot of young guys on it but it’s a work in progress.

I don’t care too much about what Green says cause he actually has them playing really structured hockey unlike previous years.

It does annoy me that he doesn’t let reporters finish their questions half the time though lol.

Ottawa media is soft I was expecting something With fireworks, I guess this is considered hard hitting reporting in Ottawa seeing a coach upset his team lost a game they should have won and you just ask him the same question 5 times in a row until the coach is calls you on it, and then you pretend you’ve had a tense exchange. Give me a break.

My big problem is Travis said “we win that game 9 out of 10 times” but we’ve seen them lose at least 3 games where they’ve played that same game and they’ve only played 5-6 games that well. So it’s just a word salad from Travis, who cares,.

The look Travis gave Garrricohe when Garioce just blurted out like a 1st grader “You Lost” was gold, it’s why I watch Travis press conferences. That was a beauty death stare, Travis Green for sure has kids.

Don’t pull the goalie you dumba**

NYI almost scored 10 seconds after. Missed by an inch. Eventually they did score.

This happens about 80% of the time.

So stop it!!

Green has been coaching the team to limit chances in front of the crease.

Another (bigger?) feather on Green's (and Alfie's) cap is the continuous growth of Timmy Süperstar as a 2-way player. Love the way he backchecks and breaks plays and takes the puck the other way. Reminds me of Hossa.

DJ let Stutzle become a 1-dimensional scorer who would "struggle" on ice when not scoring. Now he is maturing under the tutelage of the new regime.

Are people still defending this hiring? Most of us knew from the get-go that this was another bottom-of-the-barrel Melnyk style hire that would lead to another lost season.
He’s coached this team for 27 games and they have good underlying numbers, a lot of the core have taken steps forward with their games and the team as a whole plays well most nights.

What is so bad about what Green has done exactly?

It's fairly obvious as to what he was doing in the news conference last night - he was passive-aggressively throwing shade as his goaltender without openly doing it. He talks about how well the rest of the team played, which is true, while steadfastly refusing to address the elephant in the room. I felt a little badly for Green, TBH - he has been saddled with a backup in Forsberg whom he can't trust, and who clearly isn't an NHL calibre goaltender most nights. Dude is a Pierre Dorion special, a waiver wire pickup who, after having some very modest success in a year we didn't even make the playoffs, got rewarded with a three year extension at about double what other NHL backups are making. It is mind numbing just how bad at his job Dorion was...

I feel like the process has been fine. He can’t force them to score or make a save.

This team still stinks, and nobody outside the top 6 can score. Sanderson has regressed massively. Aside from Stutzle, who has taken a step forward this year?

Yeah agreed. That early pull irked me for sure. During a two goal deficit maybe pull around 3-4 mins but for a one goal lead 1:30 should really be the standard.

Batherson got a shoutout from Methot about his 200 ft game just last night. Norris is all over the ice. Chabot is much improved.

Anyway I mostly don’t think the secondary scoring issues are driven by coaching, but I’ll be more open to the idea if it persists all year. For now I think you can see Amadio, Cousins and Pinto finding their games of late so we’ll see where things go.

Ullmark is just finding his game as of a week ago and it’s already made a big difference.

I’ll take the bait, the season is 1/3 over and they are 25th in the NHL
Sure, and if the team is still 25th in the NHL at the end of the year let’s talk. 3 points separate them from 17th. The margins are small this season, point is they are objectively playing better hockey and we’ll see if it translates to more wins or not.

Overall, I've liked the way the team has played 5 on 5 lately. Ullmark has given the team opportunity to win games lately and really you can pretty much chalk this one up to Forsberg being not good. Not sure why he couldn't have played back to back games. I don't understand or agree with the goalie deployment decisions thus far on about 2-3 occasions. Sorokin looked pretty darn sharp for playing two days in a row. Just saying

Other than that special teams need some serious work. Really hate the overpassing and lack of urgency on the PP. It looks nice when it actually works, however, sometimes just put pucks to the net and battle for rebounds. Sometimes they are overpassing a bit during 5 on 5 play as well. Its real hard to criticize much of Stutzle's game lately but so many times I'm left shaking my head when he looks to be in a good shooting position and then passes off to a teammate that isn't expecting it. When we have a failed PP and nothing much is generated there is usually a let down to follow which gives the opposition momentum.

PK is really really worrisome to me. That passive diamond setup they are using this year I don't see a single benefit to it. Somehow last night they even got confused setting it up properly and gave Palmieri a clear lane and about 4-5 seconds of time to walk right in. Got to be a bit more aggressive and have active sticks. Not saying get running out of position chasing pucks but certainly force the opposition into having to make accurate crisp plays. I noticed Dallas' PK last night against Calgary and it is night and day better than how ours looks currently. They also appeared to be using that diamond setup so maybe it is 'in' right now.
