Wow, this big non issue of Brodeurs son getting a roster spot (which he will likely not even play more than a game if he even gets that) has really derailed the entire thread.

I hope Brodeur's son has a wonderful time playing on the Rangers in Traverse City and then they never call him again

glad to see Tyson Helgeson and NYR take one more shot,
2 seasons wearing 'C' in the W,
expecting to enroll in college in Canada,
but maybe he shows NYR and himself enough to get an AHL deal, give pro hockey a go
obviously SO many guys ahead of him on LH D for Hartford - Hajek, Lindgren, Crawley, Day, Pedrie, Bigras, OGara, Gilmour
i'd have invited Jack Glover ...

Helgesen committed to a Canadian university. I don't know how firm it is, like if an AHL deal could buy him out of it.

It definitely would. I dont know the exact rule but I am pretty sure CHL players have 24 months after their CHL career to start using their education package. Dont quote me on that. But id be extremely surprised f he turned down an AHL deal to play Canadian University

Both, plus bean and saarela

Still hate that we lost Saarela in that deal. Two 2nds was more than enough.

Nice to see us fielding a somewhat competitive team on paper for a change. Lots of question marks, but excited to see some of our top kids playing.

Jump on the Howden bandwagon before it gets full, kids. ;)

I'm on the Howden bandwagon hard. I think he's going to exceed his floor. I think we get a really good middle six center who will be slotted as a 3C for years to come. That's incredible value and Cup contending teams have 3 great lines.

Interestingly enough, Brodeur is Godfather to a third cousin of mine.

I didn't learn that until a wake about a year ago. Imagine my surprise when he walked through the door.
I have never had a family gathering that included the godfather of a third cousin. At least not that I knew of.

I saw Helgeson's first name and thought they had invited legendary ex-prospect Tyson Dowzak for a second

A few years ago, the Flyers drafted the son of CEO Peter Luukko. Peter told the team he didn't want them to draft him and but they picked him when Peter was out of the room. Why? Because he was the BPA on their board. At the end of the day, that's all that matters.

Riiiiight

Most picks in the 160s are nothing picks.

But I think when certain people keep harping on the nepotism thing over, and over, and over, and over, and over. It doesn't do the person making the comments any favors.

Especially considering that there's no history, evidence or other elements to support the claim.

The kid is heading to the US to play hockey, where obviously someone knew of him.

He was on some radars prior to the draft, before dropping off. So someone was watching him.

So let's not pretend like he was waiting for the school bus and management just decided to give the kid a break.

My theory is they did their scout a favor because his son's career was in early jeopardy because his Swedish team did not want him, and not too many other teams or leagues were interested. So they thought by having him drafted would help the kid get some recognition by impressing some teams that he was drafted by an NHL team so he must be a legit talented prospect. In the end he managed to get in one of the US colleges but they made him wait a year playing in USHL.

Every single thread where they could be relevant information and discussion is derailed this way. Constant bickering, hating, spite, attacks.

It's beyond tedious and the major reason why so many of us found other sources and groups to join for Rangers/Hockey info.

This! Coming from a European supporter culture I don’t mind things being nasty, but even I draw the line when it comes to someone’s kids! ;)

How come Gropp and Hughes are not in the tournament? Did they completely give up on goalie Halverson?

Maybe because Gropp played in like 3 of them in a row.

As for Hughes--he's very young--a 7th rounder and going to play in the BCHL. A comparable in that would be Steven Fogarty who also didn't play at Traverse in his draft year and also went to the BCHL.

As for Halverson--IMO the Rangers have kind of given up on him.....but he's also played two full years as a pro and the limit I believe is one.

I'd rather most of the players were are prospects but I don't mind the Rangers taking a look at some unsigned CHL, College or European kids.

Halverson is entering his third NA pro season.

Gropp...I mean...he's likely eligible, but the prospect pool has become so deep that he's been pushed far down. Can't take everyone.

the fact that he is a scouts son is complete irrelevant imo. the issue is that he wasn't ranked on any charts anywhere. the fact that he is a scout's son might explain why we took a kid not ranked in the top 300 on any charts but that isn't the problem. no one would have an issue with the nepotism if he was good.

but i'm still not getting too worked up about a 6th round pick...and the fact that we seem to have gotten a decent prospect in the 7th round helps too
