Listening to a few podcasts today you'd think Lundkvist was the next Zubov. He was bad last year. He may still end up a solid player but I don't see the upside. People can show the charts all they want but Schneider was significantly better and its not just a size thing.

He also whiffed on a step up in the NZ that led to the Kakko goal after Kravtsov got owned but glad to hear that he's stood out otherwise.

I expect massive things from him this year.
I guess we developed KAM pretty good

The chosen one can't finish.

On a serious note, I'm glad that line is at least sustaining significant zone time. We'll see how they do in real game situations but 2 strong possession lines are definitely better than 1 (I'm already assuming that Kreider-Mika is going to get caved and we're going to have to live with it.)

Just an opinion but I feel Jones is overcompensating. Last year he should have made the team but was blocked by Drury’s’ commitment to Nemeth. Then at the end of the year when they brought him up to play it seemed like he was trying to show his talents and it ended up with him over handling the puck instead of making the easier pass out of his zone.
Now the little information we’ve been getting is not good.
Murphy needs to take him aside and explain it’s his job to lose and jut play. Don’t over think things.
Otherwise he’s in danger of being the 7th d or starting again in Hartford.
In the grand order of things he is an NHL defenseman; I just hope it is here and not with another club.

The only way to make Kreider and Mika click is Patrick Kane

And GG has hinted that our buddy Hayek is rising

Mika and Kane would be lethal but we all know that he'd end up on Panarin's wing and that would just make for 2 dumb lines bc bromance.

Kreider and Mika have been oil and water for a while now 5v5. Kreider-Chytil has been fire every time they've been paired together but they won't do it because of the perception that Kreider is being demoted.

We've been pretty good at developing D for a while now.

The funny thing is, the route they took with K'Andre was pretty much the anti blueprint for developing any young player but it worked for him because he needed the reps more than he needed to be eased in.

Yeah NYR's track record with player development post-lockout has been pretty sound in literally every category except star forward and center more generally.

We just need to get smarter about when the time to move on comes around. Staal and Girardi both has great first extensions into UFA years- but we never should have given them long term contracts at 29-30. Similar situation will be upcoming for Lindgren in a few more years.

Gotta be smart about who you let move on in free agency. Some types of players age better than others. It took Klein only one season at age 32 to go from #4 to playing at a #7 level at best.

Miller on the other hand keeps unlocking new skills every year. I get the feeling we'd regret not giving him a long term contract off his ELC but it's not looking like that's an option.

If we give Lindgren another 3 or 4 year deal, he'll be fine. 5 might be okay, but I definitely wouldn't go more than that. He'll be 26 and still an RFA at the end of his current contract. 5 years takes him to 31.

Girardi signed a 2 year ELC, then a 2 year bridge, followed by a 4 year contract. All of those were good contracts. It was the 4th contract, the one that took him to age 36, that was the issue.

Staal signed a 3 year ELC, then a 5 year contract. For him it was the 3rd contract that was bad. That contract was a 6 year deal that took him to age 34.

Both players lasted about 10 years before they really started to slow down.

Lindgren signed a 3 year ELC then a 3 year bridge. He should be fine for another contract in the 3-5 year range, depending on health.

Exactly. I'm not opposed from giving Lindgren 3-4 more years, but it will really depend on cap space and where he fits with the young players as they progress.

If neither Jones nor Robertson pan out, I'd extend Lindgren. If they do, that's a whole other can of worms.

The whole notion "da Rainjazz cayunt dryaft" on the Mains and in here is just not true.

They've bee in the B-B+ range since the 2005-06 reboot. They've been exceptional with middle six, DMen, and goalies.

Star forwards, Centers, and 4th liners is another story.

After years of foreplay, it's finally happening. I'm gonna mess around and get my hopes up pretty soon.

As long as he's setting up Panarin, this is going to work.

Kravstov got some tough love last year from Panarin, it's not a personal thing. He's clearly grown up.

Mika was +30 last year. Gallant subscribes to the Messier/Gilbert/Hadfield/Ratelle nomenclature. #Grasping

They can probably afford one pretty long one unless he REALLY pops.

Or if several guys pop.

The Athletic podcast yesterday discussed the Lundkvist trade. Max Bultman who covers the Red WIngs for The Athletic, Corey Pronman and Chris Peters. Bultman wondered where was Lundkvist's offensive production in the AHL. Pronman said there is concern about how well Lundkvist will defend in the NHL. Not overly physical. A good skater. Not a great skater. His body of work in Sweden was really good.
