I think he is just as consistent as every other player of his quality.

Most Rangers fans seem to think he can be the best player on the ice in some games and then invisible in others, but we're all entitled to our opinions.

Curious as to whom you regard as similar quality.

That's because they equate "big and fast" to tons of skill and always neglect that he does not have great hands and is not a great passer. It's no surprise to me he's topped out as ~55 point player. I never saw the potential for him to be more than that and he's really good at what he does.

Kreider is very streaky, so he isn't consistent from a game to game perspective. But if you look at his overall numbers, they are pretty consistent from year to year. He's basically a 25-25 guy.

2013-14: 17 goals, 37 points in 66 games, .26 goals per game
2014-15: 21 goals, 46 points in 80 games, .26 goals per game
2015-16: 21 goals, 43 points in 79 games, .27 goals per game
2016-17: 28 goals, 53 points in 75 games, .37 goals per game
2017-18: 16 goals, 37 points in 58 games, .28 goals per game
2018-19: 28 goals, 52 points in 79 games, .35 goals per game
2019-20: 24 goals, 45 points in 63 games, .38 goals per game
2020-21: 20 goals, 30 points in 50 games, .4 goals per game

His lowest scoring rate is .26 goals per game as a rookie and his best is .4 last year. Over an 82 game season, that's between 21 and 33 goals. Injuries and shortened seasons have kept him from actually hitting the 30 goal plateau, but in the games he has played, he has scored at around a 30 goal pace in 4 of the last 5 years.

From 2013 - 2021, Kreider has scored 175 goals in 550 games. That's an average of .32 goals per game. Over 82 games, that's 26 goals. He has 168 assists in that same time. So like I said, a 25-25 guy.

58 of his 175 goals have come on the PP. Here's how he stacks up against the rest of the league since 2013:

Kreider has a skill set that will always leave us wanting more, but at this point in his career, can we just be happy with what he is and stop all the hand-wringing about what he isn't?

The following players have played between 108 and 118 games the last two seasons and scored between 70 and 80 points. Kreider is at 113 games and 75 points so right in the middle. Here is the percent of games they have points in.

Garland - 47%
Schwartz - 54%
Necas - 49%
Wilson - 50%
Kreider - 50%
Pietrangelo - 51%
Olofsson - 56%
Eberle - 48%
Duclair - 45%
Rakell - 44%
Dubois - 43%

There is no lack of consistency in his scoring. It is almost exactly the same as other players who score at about the same rate as him on a per game basis.

Impressions:

I felt Laf increased his skating and speed and played with more pace, at least this first preseason game. This was one of the only knocks on his game coming into the draft. Good to see he is working on his weaknesses. He was also more engaged in the play like the latter half of last season. Good sign.

Hunt was clearly the player who wanted it most on the Rangers. I liked a lot of what I saw from him. Good depth forward, whether he plays off the bat or not.

Barron didnt help his cause very much. He had a similar start in camp last season. I felt he would be down in the AHL to start the year at center anyway, but a little disappointing he didnt take the bull by the horns this camp with a new coaching staff and considering how he didn't have a great camp last year. He really didnt assert himself physically, which is what he needed to do to separate himself.

Huksa was pretty solid. Disappointed with Georgies game again. I know it's only one preseason game and the goals against were mostly odd man situations - but I just don't like his body language out there. In his first year he was commanding the crease and aggressively framing shots. Now I feel like he's fighting plays, gets twisted around easily and is off his angles, sitting back in the net too much and not as confident. We will need him to be a solid backup if this team has any postseason aspirations. If Kinkaid comes in and plays the way he did at the end of the year, Gallant should have him backing up and Alex should be 3rd. Really souring on him, but hoping he turns it around. At one point he was our #1.

Kravstov looked comfortable out there. Really smooth, was stopping on pucks. He just needs time to develop at this level, but seeing a lot of good things. Needs more work in the D zone but its nothing that will prevent him from making the team.

Nils is smooth. He will get his opportunity. I definitely think there will be an adjustment period on the smaller ice surface. He made some good first passes but also got picked off a few times trying to bank it off the wall and threw it into skates a couple times. On the larger rink he would've gotten away with it since the angels are different. He will figure it out. I love his ability to skate with the puck and quickly transition with his head up. He will be able to transport the puck in the neutral zone and probably have a decent zone entry number for a defenseman. Gallant will need to see more of him in the preseason before making a decision. But he has a real knack with that shot of his. Really cool thing Joe said about not being able to "hear" his shot on the ice. Thats unique.

I posted a similar study a month or so ago and I agree. He is what he is. Wherever he is in the lineup he needs to play PP, his numbers are on the rise there. I think he needs to be on a third line fighting for time and driving a forecheck with a new purpose. But im fine with that, even with his contract. Well see how it falls into place.

I think the fact that he is in the conversation as a captain candidate and that he just signed a fat/questionable contract is why he gets this much attention.

Kravtsov and Chytil looked good last night

Laf too.

We’re gonna be fine
Laf looked significantly faster. that alone gives me a lot of hope.
Chytil plays like this all camp, he’s a 2C. Big fast and looks strong. He was owning possession and making good passes, and won a few face offs.

Henriksson sent back to Frolunda, wasn’t it expected he’d be in Hartford?

It is what it is but probably cements he doesn’t have an NHL future

It was NHL or SHL because of the IIHF transfer rules.

I'm not a fan of his game personally but he's still just 20. This is the first year of his ELC so he's already signed up and there's plenty of time to evaluate his progression.

On one hand the team's effort was disappointing, but the effort of the players was okay?

If you question effort, there must be examples of it with specific players.
What in good God are you trying to claim here?? Where did I say the player’s effort was ok? This is not black and white. You just refuse to accept anything in between if there is not some number to quantify it. You ask for specific examples from last season because you yourself won’t accept or refuse to believe that the Team was extremely inconsistent and didn’t show up ready to play every night. I don’t know what else to tell you. You have a different perspective. You saw what you saw. I guess the effort was spectacular from puck from last year. I guess we’re wrong and you’re right. Very easy for you to just say, ‘hey go back to last year and find a shift where you can show me an example of poor effort’. I could do that and you would still say no, not good enough go find more.

Lame-Duck approach from a Quinn Apologist. Nothing new here.

they all tried to do things but got in each others' way a lot and looked like they've never played together before, which most of them haven't.
