It might not mean anything, but Sandin being demoted with Biega is interesting. Kral moved up in his spot. Robertson demoted as well.

That is more or less my top 21. I am hoping they can find a way to keep a 7th D though.
Q: Is it possible to keep one of Sandin and Liljegren on the Leafs roster, and allow the other (not on the roster) to practice and travel with the team?

If so, they could switch them in and out -- one for the other -- without passing through waivers, as the need arises.

I don't know if that's within the rules.

Sorry, did this happen? It may be the way you worded it but sounds like it happened and I can't see any mention of it on Twitter.

Would the leafs send Sandin down since he is waive exempt and keep Liljegren and Menell.

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin Holl
Dermott Liljegren
Menell

not saying they should do this just a thought. Dubas was high on Menell when he got him.

yeah if you look a few posts up you can see the lines from today's practice.

Yep, I'm with you on this one. Have to find a way to keep him on the roster.
He'll need to go through waivers if sent down?
Yes, Brooks would have to pass through waivers.

Personally, I would keep him over Simmonds, but I can't imagine Leafs' management doing that to a vet on a rew contract.

I would keep him over Engvall, too.

Easily over Engvall.

I think Sandin is likely starting the 3rd pairing anyway so maybe just want to see him with one of our potential depth options.

I just don't want to see Muzz-Lily broken up for a while.

Sandin ahead of Dermott or Holl?

Brooks and Liljegren need to start the season in the lineup.

Brooks has impressed me from his call up last season. Works hard and thinks the game well, which makes him adaptable to wherever he’s needed.

They both need extended NHL stays to settle.

Rielly, Muzzin and Sandin seem like your LD

Brodie, Holl seem like your RD

Dermott and Liljegren fighting.
I'm no expert, but I prefer Rielly, Muzzin and Dermott on the left side and Brodie, Liljegren and Holl on the right.

Sandin on the Marlies, ready for a call-up if and when needed.

Barring a trade I see Sandin on the Marlies.

I could just as easily see the scenario you outlined too, it is the best asset management.

My own opinion is they seem committed to Sandin in the NHL this year, maybe even to see how he can handle Rielly's PP duties etc but I am also wrong plenty :)

Brooks needs to be in the NHL, man looked so good with Marner in the highlights, and has been constantly getting better.

He's going to be a better player than Mikheyev, Kampf, Engvall, and Simmonds next year. Hopefully the team moves Mikheyev soon and he gets a deserved spot

Find his foot speed is not NHL level

Find his foot speed is not NHL level
His speed isn't so bad, and he seems like a good IQ player to be able to keep up with Marner who is one shifty player.

Being fast and speedy can be overrated with us seeing how unimpactful Engvall and Mikhyev can be despite the blistering speed.

Brooks has a fair amount of skill, good shooting instincts and seems to be coming on in terms of confidence. Now is the time to give him an extended run and see what he's capable of.

The payoff is higher with him then Engvall/Mikheyev imo

As long as were doing this;

I did not include Simmonds, his skating was falling off last year and if last night were any indication his wheels don't look like they're getting any better, I believe that at this moment Gabriel has better wheels and his are just barely NHL ok! I'd waive Simmonds and let him know that if things improve he'll be an injury call up, if he's claimed so be it and good luck to him.

I'd hate to lose Brooks on the waiver wire but I don't see him playing ahead of anybody I've included in the top 12. If Ritchie doesn't work out on the top line then maybe Kerfoot get's the spot and that would require a whole new game plan.

Bunting and JT just looked hand in glove to me, and if that trend continues they definitely stay together, Bunting looked really good with the captain needless to say I was impressed. Willie Ny may pop 40 this year with those two guys

Kerfoot and Kampf are kind of interchangeable neither really excels in the circle and offense gives Kerfoot a slight advantage. What a bonus it would be if the Soupman started shooting at 12% and Kase catches fire, if Kase doesn't then I'd be tempted to put Brooks or JSH there

Engvall depending on his injury may start the year on the IL or may get moved before that I'm pretty sure if waived he'll get picked up, either way there's not a whole lot he can add to this group based on his past performance.

Nick Ritchie(not totally sold on this) - Auston Matthews - Mitch Marner

Michael Bunting - John Tavares - William Nylander

Ilya Mikheyev - Alexander Kerfoot - Ondřej Kaše

Ho-Sang - David Kämpf - Jason Spezza

Robertson - Brooks - Gabriel

The Leafs really do lack that "stud" that every NHL team desires, we all know those guys are few and far between and nobody is giving them away, so this is what you have and the Leafs will just have to do it by committee.

For all of you Justin Holl "fans" while this is not an ideal "top" 6, and there aren't many in the NHL, and unless Dermott, Sandin or Liljegren have monster camps whether it's all three or just two of those guys then Holl stays the second pairing guy. You may not like it but that's life. He and Muzz had some really good stretches last year when given lots of responsibility

I think Sandin may move up sometime during the season, it's all there and you can see it, it just doesn't come together on a consistent enough basis. The same can be said of Derms and Timmy. I think Sandin may be the best of the three currently and possesses the most upside. I think you'll see Sandin get some regular 1PP time this year, I'd like the Leafs to resign Morgs at a price that makes sense, even if it requires them going the full 8 years and have him come in at around 6.25 any more than that, then they need to know if they have a guy who can QB the PP, and they'll need to make a move at the deadline, no more of this giving away FA's for nothing.

TJ Brodie - Morgan Rielly

Jake Muzzin - Justin Holl

Travis Dermott/Liljegren - Rasmus Sandin

Petr Mrázek
Jack Campbell
