Just watched Nylander's interview video, he sounds a lot more mature and confident talking to the reporters than he has in the past. Watching him against Montreal in that series it felt like something had finally clicked and he realised how important and how dominant of a player he could be when he's fully assertive, I'm really hoping that he carries that through to the entirety of this season, even though he's my favourite player I can't in good faith say that he's ever played up to his potential for an entire season but sometimes people just need to mature and grow up to learn how to make the most of their abilities, looking to see that from him this year.

Seems like a no-brainer to me. If true, puzzling what hills this management group choses to dig in on.
Will be interesting to see what the real story is here because Dubas said lowering the AAV is worth a substantial amount in a cap world (Hyman situation). So if Rielly's deal is closer to Paraykos, adding extra AAV just to avoid a NMC is not worth it. You're better off giving the NMC the way Rielly wants it and taking the lower AAV. Everything right now is just speculation but very puzzling indeed.

No doubt Dubas inherited a pretty desirable, unprecedented situation but his successor will also be in a pretty good spot.
Difference IMO is, Dubas had tons of cap to do what he wanted while his successor will have a better roster but hands tied by limited cap space.

Not sure which is better, time will tell if we're being honest.

Just a final thought, I find it so Leafy that people actually defend everything this guy has done, when we have zero to show for it, beside humiliation after humiliation. Other teams literally don’t respect us, their fans mock us, we’ve been the most under achieving group and yet Dubas is without fault apparently. What metric can you use to absolve him, how intellectually dishonest can you be to say this situation is defendable, how can you parse out everything, but leave the GENERAL unscathed, day after day after day, the same garbage. Can’t even win a round of the playoffs, never mind contend and he’s above reproach. My lord.

Later.

He absolutely shoulders his fair share of the blame for what has transpired here, but it gets pretty ridiculous what people try to put on him. Trying to walk a line of reason amidst all these extremes is nauseating

I think Dubas is defiant now.

What the heck is he doing? You cannot beat the fans and media. And what does Kyle have to back it up with? All kinds of success?

I'm remembering back to when this thread was about 'Training Camp'.
Pre-season starts Saturday against Montreal. There had better be some payback for last seasons embarrassment.

The real payback needs to happen in the games that count in the standings.

You’ll note I said he’s done a decent job drafting and have given praise on certain trades. What you’ve said here works both ways too, just look at the full time dubists on here, reading them you’d swear he’s infallible and the team is a dynasty. It’s the weirdest thing I’ve seen on here, devotion to a GM of all things. Not including you in that group. Cheers.

wasnt lumping you into a side or anything, just speaking generally, and absolutely, it definitely cuts both directions. I’m just ready to focus on hockey and how this team realistically gets better and accomplishes their goals now. I’m just not interested in this never ending blame game. I was mad when the playoffs ended, like most all of us, but I’m even more tired of beating this dead horse all over these boards

Sorry about that, I was typing when the mod note went up.

I think I’m most interested to see Bunting in camp and get a feel for how and where he may gel

To summarize whats going on in Camp:
1. Reilly wants to stay but it is a business
2. JT had no memory of what happened but is doing well and want to be part of Team Canada.
3. Marner knows and understands the pressure.
4. Willie only got one shot and will have his second before the season.
5. AM is on schedule.

Can you guys please keep the Dubas stuff off this thread, as I really want to read about the players for a change, thanks
