we didn't keep kerfoot over mccann.

we did keep Holl over mccann.

I guess one could say we kept Kerfoot over Hallander.

I'd take that trade any day personally. After adding Steeves and Gogolev for free, I think we could afford to let Hallander go to keep a fairly important piece on our team.

Bunting Matthews Marner
Ritchie Tavares Marner
Mikheyev Kampf Kase
Engvall Spezza Simmonds
Gabriel Brooks

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin Holl
Dermott Liljegren
Sandin

Campbell
Mrazek

Kerfoot for a 3rd and 4th.

we did keep Holl over mccann.

we most likely did though. In one of the more recent leaf blueprint episodes there is a scene where the management is all together and Shanny is talking about how they have an opportunity to get McCann for Hollander, to protect themselves from losing Kerfoot.

it was a very deliberate move, which tells me the leafs already had discussions with Seattle about taking McCann instead if they do the deal with Pittsburgh

they didn't need discussions with Seattle - they knew they would take McCann instead of Kerfoot.

no they didn't.

they chose to trade hallander for a player they knew seattle would pick over kerfoot (or would have been happy if they had taken kerfoot instead of).

Disagree. It’s very clear from the video I mentioned that the move for McCann was only made so that they would take him instead.

What you’re arguing is mere semantics. What is more important was intent and the intent was clearly to keep Kerfoot.

What's clear is that they thought McCann was more valuable than Kerfoot, and that Seattle would obviously choose McCann.

What's also clear is that they thought Kerfoot was more valuable than Hallander.

What's also clear is that they thought Holl was more valuable than any of those guys.

Honestly surprised (and disappointed) that Menell was waived. He’ll find a home in the NHL. Dude has really good offensive instincts, and doesn’t appear to be a liability defensively.

Clague and Allard both made it through. I think there is a good chance that Menell makes it through too.

Worst case, I don't think the Leafs are necessarily in dire straights if he is claimed. We have Duszak. Maybe Hollowell too. Waiving Menell for the flexibility is the right move.

It's not Dire Straights, but Duszak and Hollowell are guys that we're hoping will maybe one day be what Menell is right now, and in most likelihood will never even reach that level

Still the right move but let's hope he clears

Duszak is nowhere near Menell. Considerably worse. Menell could play on a bottom pair as a depth PP2 option today, Duszak likely never touches NHL ice. Unless you mean AHL impact.

Still think he clears given that Fleury (40+ NHL GP), Clague, Allard cleared to your point. If he does pass through, that's pretty huge for the Marlies top pair. Would love to see Kral-Menell.

Gadjovich on waivers is interesting. PPG last season in the AHL and lost 10-15lbs coming into camp with slightly quicker foot speed. Not much room up front with Engvall/Brooks battling, but i'd prefer his player type competing on the 4th line.

I think waiving Engvall should be the move. There is a decent chance he clears with how much he makes.

yeah I don't think duszak and holowell will ever be close.

in fact im not sure they are regular starting marlies this year if everyone makes it through waivers.

Rubins - Menell
Dahlstrom - Biega
Kral - xxxxx

xxxxx = duszak/holowell/hoefemayer/hellickson
