Is this confirmed? I know it's still only preseason but if this is the case it's a good sign this coach at very minimum has common sense. No Trouba on PP2 is good.

I hope so considering his history with Laviolette but will believe it when I see it.I think once they signed Gustafsson this was clear.
I think Cuylle has 100% earned a roster spot (whether he gets one is another story) and I think our move should be to plant him on the 3rd line with Trocheck and Wheeler and then rotate vesey, pitlick and maybe even bonino as 13th forward. Vesey, pitlick, bonino play like 55-60 games each, Cuylle 82. Cuylle fits like a glove in lavi’s system
I understand not wanting to lose brodzinski on waivers though so I hear that argument. Hes a solid nhl depth piece too, has looked good this preseason. I think othmann could use some games in HFD, just to get ready. Future is bright though.
100%. Like I said, reading too much into preseason games is foolish.Funny, because the entire board is on the verge of standing outside MSG with pitchforks and rotten tomatoes to demand Lafreniere get traded after a couple preseason games. So maybe we should all wait on that front too.
Othmann has been developing the right way. Let him continue to get top minutes in Hartford and continue to learn the game.HFNYR: Rangers rushed Laf and Kakko and turned them into bottom six losers.
Also HFNYR: Let’s rush Othmann!

Goodrow had more assists last year than Kreider.Goodrow, doesn't distribute, yet he had over double the assists last year than Brodzinski has in his 101 game NHL career. Brodzinski is an AHL scorer who can't bring his game to the NHL. Anytime he's tried he's turned into a complete zero offensively and he's not some defensive specialist. I highly doubt he would get claimed and stick with a team if waived.
I don’t think the fourth line is going to be a spare parts line like we’ve seen occasionally in the past. I’d expect the fourth line to get decent minutes. You want him getting 7 mins a night on the 4th line?
I agree in principle, that the team needs to be more…intentional…with development. I’d have - in hindsight of course - left Kakko to mature another year or even two closer to home. No idea what happened with Laf… But Cuylle and Othmann are older than those guys. And Cuylle for one probably doesn’t have much left to learn in the AHL. Othmann, maybe could use a couple months there. Just my two cents.Even if they were to get 3rd line ice time, they wouldn't get significant PP or PK time. They are both better off getting top minutes in all situations in Hartford. Let them dominate there, then bring them up.
As good as they've looked at times, we have to remember that these are preseason games. Lots of players have looked good in preseason and then done nothing in the regular season. Lias Andersson made the team, then tripped over a wire and his career has gone downhill ever since. Brett Howden made the team on the basis of a good preseason, and then people complained about him for the next 3 years, saying, ironically, that Lias should have gotten the spot over him.
People have complained that we rushed Kakko and Laf, citing that as the reason they haven't lived up to their draft status. Let's not do the same with Othmann and Cuylle. If either or both are actually ready to be every day NHL players, then let them go down to Hartford and prove it. Better that than we keep them on the roster, waiving players that we might lose to make room, and then finding out they aren't really ready and having to send them down.
Part of the argument for having Othmann and/or Cuylle make the team is the assumption that Laviolette will do right by them. If we are imagining them just sitting on the bench or in the press box, sure, it’s bad. But I could also envision a strong fourth line that gets 12 mins a night and the kids slotting up at times. Which is absolutely fine by me. Anyhow, the devil is in the details as always.Othmann has been developing the right way. Let him continue to get top minutes in Hartford and continue to learn the game.
I Have a bad feeling the minute he makes a mistake or two he's gonna get buried on the 4th line getting 6-8 min a game. We've come this far with Cuylle and Othmann let them marinate a bit more in Hartford getting top line minutes.
Dude, Brodzinski sucks. Flat out sucks. Glad he shoots the puck so much. It never goes in. It aint “sneaky” when it never goes in. Only sneakiness it has is how it hits the back glass constantly. Stop defending this AHL plug. Guy is 30 years old and some of you speak of him like he is a 22 year old about to break out. Lafreniere is that guy. Not shitty BrodzinskiPeople complain the team doesn't shoot enough. Brodzinski has 12 shots on goal through 4 games played. That's good for 3rd in the entire NHL in preseason. Brodzinski has a sneaky good shot and he knows how to put himself in position to use it. for whatever reason the points don't come at the NHL level like they do at the AHL but if you want someone who can consistently move the puck up the ice and get shots on net to create chances he is good option.
This comes back to the a discussion many have been having, Brodzinski skates well, is defensively responsible, isn't shy about physical contact, plays center and consistently gets pucks to the net. for a 4C that is exactly what you want. That and he makes less than the league minimum this year
Goodrow at center is bad news for any set of wingers. He doesn't skate well enough and he doesn't distribute or carry the puck up the ice effectively. Brodzinski is a better center than Goodrow is.

Not gonna lie, Sokolov looks like a decent fringe 3rd line RW.
But this time it will be different?
I can't envision a way for him to "do right by them" with fourth, or even third line minutes.Part of the argument for having Othmann and/or Cuylle make the team is the assumption that Laviolette will do right by them. Yes. Apples and oranges with Kakko and Laf. And I agree, they might need more marinating, and surely it wouldn’t hurt. But it’s not the same thing as the others.Othmann marinated in juniors for like 3 years.
Anyway I'm fine with the both of them starting in Hartford but if some of the old 4th liners we brought in really stink up the joint i'd like to give them a shot.
I think the issue is, we dont see it from some vets in most games during the season, so we were hoping to see a bit of a change with a new coaching staff, even if it was just the preseason.I haven't chimed in on the effort thing with the veterans, but for me the expectation that they go out and play hard in preseason is pretty ridiculous. It's easy to sit back and say they should go and bust their asses to set the tone and a positive example, but these guys have to go out and play to that same level of expectations for 82 games when they actually count.
I look at football--half of the guys don't even play in preseason, and if they do it's for like 20 snaps. Baseball is a no-impact sport and spring training is still just for getting into your rhythm and building yourself up slowly (and where good veteran pitchers get lit up because they're "working on things" or whatever). Shit, in basketball, they can't even get the veteran guys to play in the games during the regular season, what with all the "rest days" causing the league problems. Forget about preseason.
Believe me, I LOVE the glorified idea of warrior hockey players going all out f***ing shit up against the opponent's C-team to show the kids how it's done...but I think it's totally unrealistic and honestly kind of unfair. JMO.
A good coach isn’t going to ride the vets ass until it actually counts.I think the issue is, we dont see it from some vets in most games during the season, so we were hoping to see a bit of a change with a new coaching staff, even if it was just the preseason.
