Fourth line of Cuylle-Bonino-Othmann. I want to see it.

I get it. People want to play Othmann in the top-9. But there's no room. Kakko, Laf, Kreider, Panarin, Wheeler, Vesey, Goodrow. Who's he playing over?

More than likely, you get a fourth line of one of Cuylle and Othmann, Bonino and Vesey/Goodrow, with Pitlick as the 13th F.

Pretty cool of @Amazing Kreiderman to meet Jojen Reed/the kid from "Love, Actually"

i think it’s way more likely neither of them make the team. Cuylle I at least can understand the argument because he played fine in the AHL last year

There is zero upside to rushing Othmann at this point. Let him sit in the minors and play a ton this season.

That's why he is going to HFD. He's not playing on the 4th line to stunt his development. He's going to get 20 min with PP time in HFD and get called up when there is a spot for him.

Why cant Vesey and Goodrow play 4th line and Othmann top 9 with Cuylle.

Fixed it 😀

I think Miller and Trouba really struggle out there. Im more and more inclined to think it’s Miller not being with Fox being the issue.

For all intents and purposes, Trouba is a good captain but he’s not worth his cap hit based on hockey skills alone. Another top 4 with Miller is sorely needed IMO.

K’Andre Miller is a good dude. After the game. He got out of his car after he parked it and signed and took photos with anyone that wanted one. He did not have to do that. That was awesome of him. I got my photo before the game so I did not ask for another but that was great to see. I never get autographs. I rather get a photo. I don’t want them to think I make money off of them. Some idiots actually do that

For Jones to take that last spot he's going to have to be really noticeable the next few games. Unfortunately, as time goes, the roster for preseason starts to include more regulars, and there's less focus on him being the guy. It's not going to be easy. I really struggle to see him beating out Gus.

The twin towers looked pretty good. First line was good during first half. Wheeler created a bit but moves like a lumberjack. Fox was as almost always good. Goalies stable - although first one was on Igor. Gustavsson looked better than I remembered. Othmann had some moments. Lotsa meh out there too though. Do not get the Miller resentment.

I low key hate that we are a big heavy team. I want a fast, skilled team and we aren’t gonna be able to play that way.
Big and heavy teams win. Vegas added Barbashev. He played a big and heavy game from them in the playoffs. He played on their top line with Eichel and Marchessault. They dominated other teams in the playoffs. Vegas had those big and tall defenseman. That is how you win in the playoffs.

Even the Avalanche went out and acquired Manson at the trade deadline in 2022. They needed some beef on the blue line. They also acquired Lehkonen. Two way player. Better defensively.

Most of the recent Cup winners played a big and heavy game. TB. Take away Stamkos, Point and Kucherov. They were a bunch of big and heavy players. The Blues in 2019.

The Avs are the lone exception but they still had Kadri who could play that game. They added Manson.

The Panthers were a big and heavy team last season in the playoffs.

If you think othmann should be in over pitlick on the 4th line, then we have bigger disagreements.

I don't think Othmann makes the team but theres a spot on the 3rd line available, it's not out of the question for him to take it.

Vesey or Goodrow.

Panarin zib laf
Kreider trochek kakko
Othmann chytil wheeler
Vesey bonino goodrow

I'm pretty sure Othmann is in Hartford but a few more bone crushing hits like he threw last night and he might start dragging eyes to him from the bench.

Wheeler, Vesey, etc.

37 year old Wheeler scored 16 goals last season. 16 goals. That's what we're afraid we can't replace. Guy looks like he's 90 years old on the ice. Hunched over. can barely skate. And we're flipping out trying to figure out ways to commit to 37 year old Wheeler.

In typical Rangers form. They have a skilled, physical 1st round pick ready to take the step and play in the top 9 with other skilled players, and the Rangers would rather commit to 37 year old Wheeler who can't skate.

Last deadline they added 34 soon to be 35 year old Kane with a hip that needed surgery. Instead of committing to their 1 and 2 overall picks. People still want to add him.

Same shit different day in Rangers land.

Another hot take pencilling in a guy that's probably not ready (Othmann) over a guy that would've been 4th on the NYR team in scoring among forwards with 55 points.

Ideally, I'd like to see both Lafreniere and Kakko flourish in top six roles and Wheeler be on the 3rd line with possible 2nd unit PP time.

Rushing Othmann is a bad idea. He's close but let him get some big minutes in the AHL first.

Rempe fought McIlrath in the AHL last year and Dylan figured out a way to win that one against a taller opponent with more reach. That said Rempe gave him a good go. Johnston couldn't figure it out last night and didn't do so well. Some tough guys are just use to being the biggest guy when they're faced with someone taller with no reach they are kind of flummoxed.

I really don't expect for Matt to make the team. I think there is some chance of a call up during the season but for the Rangers purposes he's developing on schedule. He's 4th line material but there's something there. The other tall guy Edstrom is 4th line material too but in a different more defensive role. He's not going to be a fighter.

I have liked how sharp the team has looked early in camp and through 2 games. Especially the veterans. Thought Kakko and Miller showed last night that they are poised for breakouts (I know Miller already kinda did last year).

If Othmann keeps playing like he did last night, he has a real shot to make the team. Didnt look physically outmatched at all.

I think Wheeler is going to give us some of what late career Rick Nash gave this team after he was past his prime. He looks like that type of player but with worse hands and better passing. Should help the PP too, even though people will cry about a guy with almost 1000 career points playing over some of the kids. Nice to see someone actually finish on the doorstep.

Overall, I hope the emphasis on the D getting involved in the play is scheme oriented, and not just the horse finally getting out of the barn. That's how the team is built to play. Encouraging signs

Nothing but good things can come of Othmann getting used to pro games and the NHL systems in the AHL and getting the call up in January.

Gustafsson has a good shot and can move the puck. Played physical too. That 6D race is already over, the rest is to keep up appearances, protect against injury and build Jones trade value.
