Harpur is not good, the puck is like a gernade on his stick and he's slow. He's fine if he stays in Hartford but if we don't have a better option than him after already seeing him last year, that's incompetence. The guy is a borderline ahl player.

Why do the Rangers management thinks he is an NHL player?? Is their scouting always going to be this bad?

it's a f***ing preseason game--after two days on ice. It's not a reason for anyone to jump off a ten story building.

Biggest issues from last night is our D did not play well and Quick looked a bit shaky. Second half the team did get a lot of opportunities. Top line had about a dozen shots on goal. By the way Bussi is a good goaltender. Him, Hofer in Springfield, Wolf for Calgary (AHL) may have been the best 3 AHL goaltenders last year. I was kind of thinking Boston would go with him as their backup this year and trade one of Ullmark/Swayman for forward help. Apparently they're not ready but Bussi is only a season or two away from becoming UFA.

I'm not gonna say anything I saw from Laffy showed he's going to breakout this year, but I am gonna say that you cannot take one preseason game and think you have his whole future career figured out. It's one game. One preseason game. I think it's insane to think you know what his season is going to bring based on just this.

I don’t really care who was playing in front of Quick. He was playing against Providence, practically. He’d better get his shit together, because we need someone for about 20-30 GP who won’t lose most of ‘em.
What? They were handing over point blank looks. DeBrusk is a Providence forward?

Either way, its 1 game…

What Laf needs more than anything else are Panarin and Trouba in the lineup so that those who need a whipping boy can shift their attentions.

Reaching conclusions after 1 pre-season game is so fan.

What Laf needs more than anything else is to get better at hockey. Enormously disappointing that after a full offseason, he looks exactly the same as he did last season, and the season before that, and the season before that. Slow feet, slow hands, and slow reads.

His staunchest defenders talk about how he’s young, every month brings meaningful experience, and that you can’t develop power and skills during the season. He looks exactly the same as he did three months ago and three years ago. It’s looking more and more like this is simply who he is—a middle six depth forward who blends into the game.

Have to say, some of our fans have had a good offseason and have hit the ground running with hot takes, overreactions and “just letting of steam”.

But we'll never get those two points back!!!! *checks notes* Ohhhhhh it was a meaningless game for anyone who already has a roster spot, nevermind.

I had the same view of the game. It's not like we were making Bussi look good. Quick let in about 2 goals he should've stopped, and Bussi, along with the crossbar, stopped at least 3-4 that he had no business stopping. That one on the PP off Cuylle that grazed the bar was hilariously unlucky.

I was impressed with the team speed. I liked Jones getting more minutes as the game went. He has a little too much wait in his game, without Fox's ability to disguise his intentions, but he got better as the game went on and was, along with Schneider, clearly their best D.

Chytil and Lafreniere were definitely the two best forwards on the ice, along with DeBrusk, which is about what you can ask. As a group the forwards were surprisingly quick and disruptive. Cuylle was the standout for me, relative to the situation and my expectations. I was really impressed. Berard and Sykora, not as much, but you can see what there is to like, and especially with the latter, he's so young and pretty close all things considered.

Laf wasnt as good as I had hoped he would be, but neither was Chytil. And Schneider was really rough.

Quick was awful. He was not left to dry. 2 weak shots flat out went through him. That cant happen. Regardless of preseason or not. It completely kills the team to be controlling the game, which the Rangers actually did, and have the 1 shot you give up go in.

Berard was really feisty, as was Sykora, but they ran out of gas. Still not sure if Sykora should go to AHL or Juniors. I guess it is already set though and he is going to Hartford.

On that note, Hartford should be good this year so that's cool.

As for Laf, him and Chytil were the best players on the ice. Now, I don't know if that is good or bad, honestly. It's the first game. That one is always tough. You never have your legs and it showed for both teams. I think even some guys on Boston just didn't look right. Was a slow game with a late start and the first of the year. I suspect everyone will get much better.

Get out of my mind, Liquid!

I have somewhat of a different take about Cuylle, who didn't impress me that much, and Schneider was godawful the top half of the game, imo. But it's the first preseason game, so it's mostly forgettable and good to move on.

The rule with preseason is to never get too high or low on players, even goalies
Most NHL vets aren’t going all out yet, most prospects are playing over their heads to impress, and they’ve only had a few days of camp to even start thinking about a new system and lines are a mess

No.

We must over analyze this game.

I stopped watching after 10 minutes but the transition and tempo looked better in those 10 minutes.

Did that guy on Boston take a run at harpur’s d-partner before harpur ended him? Who was harpur’s partner? I couldn’t tell.

One preseason game following 216 career games where he's been outscored by Nail Yakupov, in a much higher scoring era.

I'm at the point where I don't react to injuries until the player misses x amount of games and you really get a feel for where it's at.

He could have died yesterday and Laviolette would still be saying "aw shucks you know he's day to day" so it's impossible to gauge it.

But we're overreacting

He had that nice pass to set up the PP chance in the 3rd, but I saw nothing last night to suggest he'll improve where he needed to improve. Just a slow thinker that can't process the game at NHL speeds.

What reclamation projects are out there? The days of potentially getting a 1st round pick for him are gone.
