A little late here, but I don't think anybody is saying he can't make the team with an impressive camp, earning the right to take a top 9 spot. I think it's more about penciling him on the 3rd line over a player like Vesey and already calling it "better depth",

People are also underestimating how deep the rangers actually are.
Othmann needs a top 9 spot, and this isn't the ducks/coyotes or Columbus. There are arguments that yes he's a clearly better player than most of our 4th line guys, but he shouldn't be a 4th line guy, and is better served in the AHL.

I'm hoping that by late in the season Jones is more or less equal to Gus.

Going into next season, I want to see Jones and Robertson platoon on that bottom pair. I'm still a believer in both players.

I think the problem is if Jones isn't more or less equal to Gus at the start of the season, he's gone. You can't send him down risk free. Will he be claimed? You never know. Waiting until you have to make that choice benefits the team in hoping he passes through waivers, but also probably decreases whatever trade value he had as teams are more or less set with their roster. I don't see any benefit to carrying Jones as a 7th dman. It's not fair to him either.

The reason to carry Jones as the 7D is that he is likely the 7th best dman in the organization. If he doesn’t want to do that he can always request a trade.

Even if Mika is out 3-4 weeks it's not the end of the world and let's not start freaking out over everything and turning into Giants/Jets fans (the Daniel Jones hate is still going today, geez).

He's been around long enough to know when to push and when to pull.

It's either the practices are too laissez faire or too rigid for everyone.

The average "Rainjazz" fan would just basically say "well dey shood du whateva werked in ninedy faw. Messier faw life".

I'd keep him up with the team and work him into the lineup for roughly 1/3 of the games. More with injuries. I wouldn't risk waivers with him, and if he's struggling enough to not get him into games, he can still do a conditioning stint in HFD.

There might be a team willing to pay a 2nd for him to be a set #6, but I want him and Robertson to platoon next season, so I wouldn't do it. I'm holding out hope.

We've been pretty fortunate the last few years, but maybe that's because our practices and compete have been on the lower intensity scale.

Exactly this. More intense training amounts to more injuries. It’s just that simple. Expect more day to day injuries. Players are being worked to their limits. Which they should. It amounts to great conditioning and if we want to go far in the playoffs conditioning is everything.

He will most likely request a trade if that happens. But beyond that, most organizations try to do right with a young kids career rather than just keep him on the side not playing any games.

This just means they haven’t made decisions on them yet.
Should know within 2-3 weeks.

It just means they will go to Hartford's training camp when that starts up which is probably in a week or so. Seems likely Barbashev will get an AHL or ECHL contract somewhere. McCue, who knows.
