They keep talking about Bonino and his faceoff prowess.

I’ll just leave this here again:

Yes, He's averaged 51.5% the last 6 seasons, but it's headed south only winning 50% in the last 3. More troubling is he had a 48.5% on D draws over the past 3 years and 46% last year. There's no upgrade there, where you really need it.

He will most likely request a trade if that happens. But beyond that, most organizations try to do right with a young kids career rather than just keep him on the side not playing any games.

I think they should be trying to do what’s best for the team. He’s better than Mackey/Harpur who are both very bad. If he’s not on board with the plan he can certainly ask out. I doubt he will, not like he will have a significantly different role anywhere else, and even if he did his trade value likely is rather low given he hasn’t stuck in the NHL and any team acquiring him still can’t send him to the AHL without clearing waivers.

I'm pretty sure his contract is 1 way, so he's not making anything extra sitting on the sideline at the NHL level. I'm sure Jones at 22 rather be playing. I definitely see him asking for a trade if he's the 7th and scratched majority of the time, regardless if another team has him in their top 6 on the backend. I understand what you're saying about the team doing what's best for them, but most of the time the organization will take a young players career into consideration and give him the best opportunity to succeed, rather than riding the bench. He needs to grab that 6th spot.

Quick is gonna get eaten alive in NY
Only saw the goals 2 and 3. Both were piss poor defensive plays. Hate seeing him get beat five hole on goal #3, but the team D has to be better. He had stopped another shot point blank not long before goal #2.

Didn't love the 1st or 3rd goals but i'm not really gonna freak out over it. Just know this fanbase and how short of a leash they will give the guy. Right about the D though, not too great. Schneider and Harpur in particular.

Sykora gonna be a player. Had a nice wrister off the pipe.

Harpur is a prototypical 7th D. He logged some major minutes when we had injury and suspension issues, and was certainly not "very bad." Gus was a great signing on the cheap and Jones has a legit NHL upside, so we're lucky that we don't "need" a Harpur right now. The Pack will be lucky to have him, tbh. Like a Brodzinski.

What % "majority of the time" though? If he's scratched less than 75% of the time (and even less if there are injuries), then I think he'd be happy to stay up with the team and get 30ish games. This could be the perfect setup to prime him for 60ish games NEXT season.

Another year, another season of Brodzinski not being able to score at the NHL level. Guys like him, Blidh, and Belzille are career AAAA players.

Harpur if he wasnt so big would be playing senior hockey somewhere. He should thank his stars he's wanted in the AHL.

don't have any real opinion on the bonino signing, but faceoff stats don't always paint the full picture. what really matters is how many he wins when you need to win them ie d zone draws, pk draws, late game o zone draws etc...if you win 70% of those but lose a lot of nz draws, esp if you accrue losses because you tried to push it fwd etc..you're a valuable faceoff guy. now all things equal, a mediocre overall avg would correlate to being mediocre in all situations, but all things aren't equal ie if you try to go fwd frequently or for whatever reason have a different level of focus situationally.

i don't know anything about how his numbers break down, or whether or not any of the above might apply to him, but given the reputation he has hopefully the totals are somewhat misleading.

if not, then yea i'd imagine we coulda found a better depth option.

I don’t really care who was playing in front of Quick. He was playing against Providence, practically. He’d better get his shit together, because we need someone for about 20-30 GP who won’t lose most of ‘em.

Not if they rush him.

If this team had a young player/prospect who could play 3C i would be ecstatic. It changes the entire dynamic of this team. Lines could be:

Panarin Chytil Trocheck

Tro takes faveoffs as Chytil is terrible at it. Tro is that gritty net front pest, Chytil could score 30+ with panarin setting him up. Panarin is Panarin

Kreider Zibs Kappo

Kappo would take a huge step forward playing with these two regularly. Kreid and Zibs have great chemistry already.

Laf ? Wheeler.

Dump Goody and trade for Pinto. He probably gets around what Goody gets now and is a solid two way player who can score 20+ goals if healthy.

4th line is probably Bonino and Vesy plus whomever. Eh whatever.

I dont know why but if Chytil plays with Panarin I am not crazy about any of the RW options. Dont want Wheeler and Panarin together and not sure Kappo and Panarin gel well together.

Nice to dream but I would think if Drury could of gotten rid of Goody he would of already.

I wouldn’t call Harpur a 7D. He’s an inept player who is a massive detriment whenever on the ice. He’s an AHL player and has been for most of his career. For some reason the slow lumbering big tough guy has now become the 7D job description. Jones would be a much better 7D who can fill in when needed or if someone gives him a breather. I see no need to trade him if he doesn’t make the team as a top 6 player because I don’t think he has much trade value and I’d much rather have him as an extra than anyone else in the organization.

You love to have players like Harpur, Blidh, Domingue in your org at league minimum if you’re going deep into the playoffs.

Harpur is not good, the puck is like a gernade on his stick and he's slow. He's fine if he stays in Hartford but if we don't have a better option than him after already seeing him last year, that's incompetence. The guy is a borderline ahl player.
