Once again you and I see eye to eye on a prospect. So do the Kings. Shore is Stoll's replacement as far as everything I have heard. Where that leaves Vey I couldn't tell you but Shore is the better two way player of the two. I love LV and think he could become a second/third line C pretty quickly but Shore will be in the mix without a doubt. Guy can play and is smart too. I think he starts in MCH this season but give him a season and he could be right up and ready.

I see a different outcome coming. I see Vey coming in as a 4th line center to start and ending up as our 2 line center having Richards move down. Richards production is decling but hes still a top end defensive center. In 3 years i see vey pearson and toffoli as our second line.
in 15 16 i see it something like this

brown kopitar carter
pearson vey toffoli
clifford richards frattin
andreoff lewis nolan ( ok i aint sure for this spot)

doughty forbert
regher slava
muzzin gravel

quick

This post lost all legitimacy to me when you not only had Forbort* as a first pair dman, but you had him over Gravel. I question if Forbort even has NHL potential at this point, and he certainly won't be a 1st pair if he does.

well we diagree on gravel Yes he maybe more talented at the moment ( i think its a debate that has points either way) but Forbert is closer to being a nhl talent and bigger upside due to the fact hes playing this coming year in mancheaster. He will have first shot imo at replacing mitchell. I think forbert will get games at the end of next year. I do agree this is a big year for him but i think he will make it unlike you do. Time will tell if your right or i am it something that we will see in time and will agree to disagree for the moment. I question if gravel will get the playing time due to a good young defense in front of him. I can see him traded at the deadline in a year or two for a upgrade for a playoff run.

Hoping the opening line-ups look something like this.

Brown-Kopitar-Williams
Frattin-Richards-Carter
Clifford-Stoll-Toffoli
Carcillo-Andreoff-Sabourin
*Nolan,Lewis

Trade King.

Bet Mitchell is stoked on OT at Denver... he's at 23:16 TOI and hasn't fallen over dead yet so that's good...

Good lord...you get your shot blocked on a 4 on 3 powerplay then get burned by O'Riely as you defend him for the short handed GWG. #Voynovfail

Jones gives up 3 in one period. Not a good way to impress the brass tonight.

Fantastic goal.

I can almost see where Apollo 11 landed on that thing by the way.....

Also, Nick Shore...outside shot at a 4th line center?? Looking really good in camp...doubtful of course. I'm really impressed though. Denver is churning out some solid players.

It's clear math isn't your best subject. Apparently reading comprehension is challenging as well.

The flaw with your 'math' is that you don't prorate the amount we are under the cap the whole time. You say if we are $600K under the cap, we'd only have $450,000 to spend at the deadline.

That is false. We'd have a much larger amount. You don't pro-rate that to the protion of the season that has been played.

I never said we'd only have $450k to spend at the deadline, I said we put $450k "in the bank."

The trade deadline is approximately 3/4 of the way through the season. If we are $600k below the cap, we would bank 3/4 * $600k = $450k.

Let's put this another way. If we had $450k "in the bank" 3/4 of the way through the season, we could afford someone with a cap hit of $2.4 million. (We are on the hook for $2.4 million * 1/4 = $600k).

If, for example, we waived Schultz tomorrow, we'd be $600,000 under the cap. that means we have $600,000 in cap space to spend. After five games into the season, you don't say we have $600,000 X 5/82 =$36,585 cap space to spend. We have $600,000 to spend.

Wrong again, we would not have $600k to spend. In your example, when you are 5/82 into the season we would be able to trade for someone with a cap hit of $600k + $36,585 * 82/77 = $638,960

when you get to the trade deadline, but it's actually a lot more than just $600,000. I'd bet it's more like triple or quadruple that.

Yes. Like $2.4 million to be exact.

I'm not sure of the formula to determine how much being $600,000 under the cap all season plays out to be when you get to the trade deadline

:shakehead

Never mind. I don't know how else to describe the salary cap. I give up.

AVS fan coming in peace. I really wish this **** was televised.

Your team is as solid as they come. I wish we had your problems on defense :( haha

Thank you. I hope the new boss ain't same as the old boss

Kings - Avs Observations

I was at Pepsi Center tonight - pretty nice arena. I was in the end where the Kings shoot twice.

The first goal was kinda flukey. The Avs shot it on goal from distance with moderate velocity. Scrivens kicked it out - perhaps he could have done more with it. There was an Avs player crashing the net. Willie(!) had his stick tied up and the puck bounced off the Avs player and Scrivens made the second save. Vey came to the slot, picked up the puck and made a limp clearing attempt right up the middle. The Kings were scrambling by this point. As soon as the Avs D man got it, the Kings converged, providing a screen. As soon as the shot got through, the goalie had no chance.

Clifford was noticeably faster live than on TV. He took a run at someone in the 1st period and shook the boards.

We completely dominated 5 on 5 play throughout the night. The TT-Vey-Pearson line was dynamite. They are very crafty and fit in well with the puck possession game we play. They each make nice cuts at the most opportune time and give the passer a nice target. They can all handle the puck in tight spaces and I was surprised at how effective they were on the boards.

The Williams-Shore-King line was awesome. Best line of the night at times.

Kozun was OK, not great. I didn't remember any grade A chances from him.

Muzzin and Ellerby were good defensively, but turned the puck over a lot while breaking out. It looked as though they would telegraph a 80 ft cross ice break out pass, take 4 strides, and then make the pass. By that time, the defense would react and break it up. Both of them were guilty of doing this on numerous occasions.

Momentum shifted in the 2nd period when we took a bunch of lazy / stupid penalties. We had 2 X Too many men on the ice calls plus multiple hooking infractions in the offensive zone. Weak. This sucked, because I didn't see TT or Williams for a full 20 minutes of game action, which neutered our offense.

Our #1 PK unit was Clifford / Fraser backed by VV and Willie. They were awesome as a unit. I don't think the Avs top guns got a good chance. These guys had lots of practice. You could see their positioning and tenacity.

Vey-Pearson with Schultz-Ellerby was our second unit. While Vey-Pearson were sound positionally, they didn't bring any aggressiveness. When a puck was loose, they would hold their ground instead of attacking as a unit, whereas the 1st PK unit would pounce.

I forgot who the 3rd PK pair was.

The Cliche-Nolan pairing on PK was a train wreck. Looked like my beer league PK. In fairness, neither get much practice at it and they were only on for two or three PK shifts.

Things got a little chippy in the 3rd. Downie (surprise) was a little *****. After Fraser and Downie get put in the box, Andreoff comes on and pretty much punches a guy in the head during the course of play. I thought that was awesome. No one wanted a piece of him. That was the only penalty of the night where we got our money's worth. After coming out of the box, he pretty much took a run at someone (someone next to me was yelling "That's a charge!") and blew him up. Things settled down after that.

I think I realize why Fraser is pretty much gone. His positioning is always solid, he plays hard, and finishes his checks on the forecheck, but he's just too small. He gets knocked over way too much and can't physically punish people, especially in a static situation like board play. He definitely got rag dolled along the boards a few times.

That last goal was bad. As a goalie, you got to know when someone starts spinning, there's no way the skater can get the puck off the ice. Jones was playing upright protecting the near post. He left half the net open low on the far side. I could see it from 250 feet away... Ugh...

So Darryl said this after the game:

"and we didn’t get any saves in the third".

He threw Jones under the bus. Ouch.

What's the deal with Brandon Kozun? I remember being intrigued a few years ago when he was on the WJC team for Canada, but haven't heard much about him since. He seems like he's posted okay numbers in the AHL, not great and kind of disappointing considering his skill level, but still alright.

Does he have any NHL upside still? Or is he just too small for the pro game?

He has the heart and skill, but not the size. I would love to see Kozun make it, but he's been jumped on the depth chart lately by Pearson and Toffoli. I think he has a future in the NHL but I'm not sure if its with the Kings anymore. I would love to see him get a call up if anyone goes down this year, he's worked hard and I think he's earned at least a cup of tea in the NHL.
