Players that are all very replaceable within the organization like Trevor Moore, Carl Grundstrom, and Blake Lizotte were given large contracts that has totally eaten up all our flexibility.

Those three players alone cost us 7.1 MILLION dollars.

Replacing those with say Fagemo, Turcotte, and Laf would've been what? 2M?

This is actually a very interesting point that deserves broader discussion.

Kings prospects given the slow boil, sleight of hand waiver bullshit, and minimal playing time in the roles they were drafted to play have or could see their earning potential limited while in this franchise.

We heard directly from McLellan last year that there was dissatisfaction among the AHL squad that felt they were better than those playing in LA who were under guaranteed contracts.

Obviously there's a lot more to it, but its not out of the question that it could impact the organization.

Maybe Spence and/or Bjornfot, but which forwards could have felt they were better? It's at most 1 or 2 guys, so I doubt there is any impact on anything. Really Spence is the only one with a legit gripe, even though I really like Tobi more than most. A guy like Frk might have complained.

There are quite a few players that came up under 25 and didn't have issues sticking once they got here. Kaliyev, Anderson, Lizotte, Kempe, and Grundstrom. They also gave Vilardi every opportunity, and when he was sent down it was fully deserved.

I don't how there would be any impact on anything. Sans Spence, I think the Kings have had the better players on the roster in most cases. If guys like Fagemo, JAD, Andersson, or Kupari were bitching, the answer is simple - play better than who is in front of you.

You think Grundstrom and Lizotte's contracts are large? Grundy makes 550K over the minimum. Lizotte makes 1.675 and put up 24 then 34 points. Moore, yes. Lizotte is probably one of the best value contracts we have.

Is breaking up the successful Danault line and trying to put Turcotte and Fagemo on the 4th line worth saving $2M in space?

So it's more worth spending extra money on these kinds of players and having our top prospects stay in the AHL until they're 25 or taken from waivers?

Are there actually any top prospects worth a crap that were in the AHL until they were 25 or lost to waivers?

What LA could have had:

Byfield - Kopitar - Kempe
Fiala - Dubois - Laferriere
Turcotte - Danault - Arvidsson
Moore - Lizotte - Lewis

4 million dollar Moore on the 4th line now? No thanks.

Here’s hoping next year Lewis and Arvidsson walk and Thomas and Laffy take both those spots respectively.

Kings will have to find a way to dump Lizotte to get Turcotte in also.

Trevor Moore is an excellent player, there's a lot here with recency bias from his stint last year after the bad concussion he had. He's been one of the kings best this pre season, his contract matches Danaults for a reason, they both elevate each others games.
I've just made mental notes of those who keep spewing nonsense (including some things said about Moore) and just realize they're not to be taken seriously.

And so far they've not proven me wrong.

When they're artificially held there due to bad management?

Because your suggestion is 'they aren't worth it' which you and I both know isn't reconcilable with reality

Nashville is pretty happy with free ass Fagemo

Laferriere and Turcotte both have 2 goals through half a game lol

God f*** this franchise so god damn much

Just to be clear, I think Moore on the fourth line would make it the best fourth line in the league. That's not necessarily a demotion for Moore but an opportunity for Turcotte. I think Moore is a great player albeit perhaps a luxury (like Iafallo last year) given the state of our goaltending. Still, I think that lineup would really balance the lines. You could even have Kaliyev in for Lewis when he comes back from suspension.

Byfield - Kopitar - Kempe
Fiala - Dubois - Laferriere
Turcotte - Danault - Arvidsson
Moore - Lizotte - Kaliyev

That's a "rookie" on every line, too.

@King'sPawn and I were all for that a few years back

but it's become pretty clear they just go into excel, sort by age, and build lines from top to bottom that way

gotta write the lines in crayon so TM can handle it

Man, what would the detractors do if both Byfield AND Turcotte went off this season?!

I’m sure it would just then turn into the ‘it didn’t happen fast enough’ narrative.

What say you boys? @Sol, @Raccoon Jesus , @Herby , @Kurrilino (omg, there are so many, my head is spinning) let’s hear ya!

Wasn't suggesting anything, just wanted to know who fit the bill based on the argument put forth.

Though honestly, I also advocate players in roles that fit them in appropriate lines.

For example, I'd rather have someone like Thomas who's more of an energy player to play on the energy line, instead of Kaliyev (or maybe even Turcotte).

Moore and Iafallo were both great facilitators who would have been perfect linemates for any rookie. It's part of why I kept bringing up a line of
Moore - Danault - Kaliyev

In the previous years.

If they wanted Byfield at center, there was opportunity to go back to Iafallo - Byfield - Vilardi late last year. Or put Arvidsson on his line, as he gets among the most primary points.

But now in the pursuit of going for it, they've hemmed both Byfield and Turcotte into wing positions for the upcoming seasons. Either they get a very expensive fourth line or they go back to relegating the prospects in roles they aren't best suited for/getting minimal ice time.

I think Laf is going to be one of the bigger surprises of the draft. He looks ready, obviously. I suspect when he comes up he's not going back down. Nice to see Turcotte keep up his nice play. It will be a big boost if he can shake the injuries because he looked great in camp.
