Outside of Lewis signing for the bare minimum it really made no sense. Unless Rob and co really thought none of our prospects could beat out a 40 year old 4th liner. His PK ability is blown out of proportion, he is NOT physical and to this day still has stone hands.

The Kings absolutely needed a right shot defensive winger. Ideally you'd want one who can bring some physicality and isn't 36 years old, but beggers can't be choosers.

It’s the time of year where people on every home board are convinced they are going to lose their guys to waivers, but a very small percentage of players are claime, because teams usually prefer to stick with what they have.

There are going to be dozens of guys of similar caliber to JAD, Thomas and Bjornfot on waivers here in the next little bit.

20-man opening night roster:

Byfield-Kopitar-Kempe
Moore-PLD-Arvidsson
Fiala-Danault-Laferriere
Grundstrom-Lizotte-Lewis

Anderson-Doughty
Gavrikov-Roy
Englund-Clarke

Copely
Talbot

Cap Space: 1M

First Callup Options: Turcotte, Kaliyev, Spence, Moverare

Stuck in the AHL: JAD, Bjornfot, Thomas

I know it's at least a year away, and maybe i'm dumb. But i love the idea of a future Fiala-Byfield-Turc line. Maybe Laf instead of Turc (if he can't stay healthy).

Running 20 instead of 21 puts the team at a fairly significant risk for dressing 19 guys on game day due to last minute injury/illness. I don’t particularly care for that tactic.

It’s utterly depressing when you see how tight against the cap Blake has this roster, versus the incredibly mediocre on-ice product that results from such expenditure. Bleh.

Just trade Kaliyev at this point if you want him starting in the AHL.

Added a bunch of names. Every team has at least two guys who can throw. Basically, Kings are softest team in NHL.

Penguins and Devils close 2nd but they have Acari and Brendan Smith.

There is a reason why Hodson and Doty are playing and Kings signed Englund. Because we are SOFT.

You're right, of course, but again, that list of names you've created is guys who can throw AND take a regular shift if not be good to great players.

Hodgson and Doty aren't that guy. And definitely not Englund. Hodgson MAYBE has earned himself a look at least, but you can at least see why he's not Brady Tkachuk etc.

If it HAS to be someone I'd rather it be a forward than a terrible Dman, at least the forward can be relatively hidden.

On road trips I think it will be 21.

There's also some other maneuvers they can make I think.

I don't think it's a mediocre product. But we'll see.

I'm expecting one of the best regular seasons in my 30 years of being a fan.

Just trade Kaliyev at this point if you want him starting in the AHL.
If Laf passes him on the depth chart, I could see that happening.

Let him have a great year in the AHL piling up the goals, then trade him for a goalie.

no way i'm hanging around if i'm him and they do me like that

I hate it myself but the writing is on the wall

I'd rather have him getting big AHL minutes and puck touches than being stuck around the fringes of the roster wasting away

The Kings have no idea what the f*** to do with this kid so I'm already mentally preparing myself to see him be a multiple time 30 goal scorer elsewhere

I wrote a long post that the Internet ate, so I'll try the cliffnotes

I don't think it's so much that everyone will get claimed but that the potential they'll get claimed is dogshit asset mgmt

I personally think Thomas and Bjornfot would get claimed on salary and upside alone and that would be hilarious.

In a world where Spencer Martin and Ty Emberson are getting claimed there would be weirder things. Hopefully sneaking guys down at the end with the rest of the flood of final roster cuts would protect them but I think two things being underestimated this year are 1. the cap, under which TB and Thomas are 775k-ers and 2. how much thinner some rosters are after last year's tank fest as well as expansion.

In that Maclellan interview the other day he said Kaliyev put in the work this offseason and has earned the spot next to Fiala and Dubois. His leash for players like Kaliyev is very short so well see how long it lasts. But at least hes going to get a look and some time to stick.

And there's another one down--Lassi Thomson claimed by anaheim

Bjornfot taken 3 spots later and has done much more

Kiss Toby goodbye, however you may feel about him, trash asset mgmt incoming

Sounds like we will hear how teams feel about Thomas' upside in 24 hours too

I hope Akil Thomas gets claimed.

Outside of his hatty the other night he's done nada his entire time with the org.

EDIT: JACOB MOVERARE WAS WAIVED???????????? AND FAGEMO???? HODGSON??? OH LORDDDDDDD

I don't think any of those guys get claimed. Akil has played well this camp, but he's been out so long and has dealt with many injuries and doesn't have any NHL games under his belt. Don't see many teams having a lot of interest in him.

Fagemo is the most likely of this group to get claimed I think, but even then I think its a long shot.

I do think if Bjornfot get waived I think he would get claimed. I think someone would take a flyer on him.
