So just to be clear....this team is way better than ours? Lock for playoffs but we’re not? Their coach might be the only reason they’re better than we are.

Eh they're solid though relying heavily on Ovechkin and Backstrom to keep humming along. That second line is good, and the third and fourth lines are solid depth at least.

Defense is also overall solid though Carlson's D is a questionmark and I think Orlov needs a bounceback year.

Goaltender is a questionmark but has talent.

I think they overall just have fewer question marks than the Rangers. Their top end talent is mostly aging but still can be counted on as something to rely on

Their decline is coming soon for sure. Their defense is gonna be average (sure the first pair has some offensive ability). Will be interesting if Samsonov can shoulder the load??? Only team that Really scares me in our division is the Flyers and of course the Bruins if they are somewhat healthy. still overall probably the toughest division in the league.

And don’t get me wrong I’m not saying the Caps are bad. That’s a good team. But no one questions that they’ll be a playoff team (with very raw goaltending by the way Samsonov is still a swimmer out there)

however we’ve got no shot. That’s what the pundits say. We’re young but definitely more talented

Fair enough. Can't question the the top two lines. Their pp should still be a serious weapon. I still see the Flyers/healthy Bruins being the top teams. The 3/4 slots should be tightly contested.

Brenden would play for USA. He and his sister (who is uh, attractive) are as american as you or I. His mom is from North Carolina or something.

he has already played for canada...he has dual citizenship and was eligible to play for both. once you play for one though you are stuck with it. can't switch back and forth.

Buchnevich is a real wild card here. I used to think that out of the three, he may be the first to get moved, but if he goes out and takes yet another step forward and let's say paces 25 goals and 60 points, it is not like the pipeline is filled with prospects who are banging on that door on the right side.

To be clear, I still think that long term probably all three are not here. But Buchnevich is in a position to make himself stand out at a position that is a relative weakness.

If KK, Kravtsov and even to a lesser extent Gauthier develop, it would seem the Buchnevich would be the most likely to be traded, no?

I think it's a matter of proven track record and "question marks"

If it all clicked for the Rangers? Sure, if Kakko and Laf have great seasons, Panarin and Strome continue their chemistry, Chytil has a solid year and Gauthier starts translating his skills to the NHL, and the 4th line can be solid...while Miller shows he can stick in the NHL and help Trouba regain his form, Fox Lindgren don't have sophmore slumps, DeAngelo repeats his offensive numbers in soft minutes role with Johnson, etc etc...

Just a lot of things to go right without a track record to back it up, and that's not even quite touching on the team as a whole needing to learn how to play better defense and support each other better

Honestly not impressed with their D at all. Doesn't sound like their fans are either.

It doesn't stand out as amazing as a whole but it's hard to argue with Carlson's production and Orlov at least in the past has been a quite good player. They're not really a top shutdown pair or anything...they could get abused defensively, but should be dangerous offensively.
I guess that's the main criticism of their D, they don't really have anything that you see as being able to match up against other teams top lines and hold their own. It's offense or death.
Dillon is solid but Schultz is not, 3rd pair is a 3rd pair, so there's the opportunity to pin their team deep a lot if you can

Yeah that’s not great for us

hope he doesn’t have any lingering symptoms

this scares me. Who knows with this thing what it does to you long term. He certainly wasn’t asymptomatic. Sounds like he’s got some work to do to get his energy level back
