Professionals can be wrong too. AV's professional opinion was that Glass was a good player.

AV's opinion was that he knew what he was getting with Glass, not that he was a good player. Same with Staal, same with Girardi. They knew those guys would give 110% (based on what AV/the coaches were asking of them) despite the results. They hustled and tried their asses off, can't really argue that most nights. Even if the results were terrible, the effort behind it was usually rewarded.

And that's something I personally wouldn't like. Kaapo is not a power forward (whatever that may be these days) or a room maker. We'll see but I'd expect the line to have more success by having Panarin & Kakko play off each other rather than Strome & Panarin with Kaapo playing 3rd string.
I feel like he definitely is those things. Not in the same way as some others, but his ability to wear d-men out with puck control was one of his major strengths at lower levels, no?

Don't you think then that maybe professionals are blinded by their bias of knowing what to expect and maybe sometimes a fresh pair of eyes in needed?

I find a lot of these issues more management than coach based. The coach likes a player who is a good guy and plays hard. Understandable. However the GM/Analytics department who are a step removed from the players should recognize this issue and correct it by waiving, demoting, or trading the player or having a conversation with the coach. If the GM is the boss he needs to make these decisions and not acquiesce to everything the coach wants.

He's such a great speaker and fresh air from the typical hockey interview, he actually has a conversation with the person asking him questions lol
We'll see how this Tony-Trouba pairing works out

"When's the last time I did it?"

I think they (coaches/coaching staff/etc) have a lot of things to consider and certainly have a lot more information on top of guidelines of what they want to accomplish. It's always easier for us to say "I would have signed/traded for/gotten rid of/put this combination of players together.." from the outside looking in but when you're in the thick of things, that clarity isn't always so apparent and there's a lot of factors that muddy the water. You're then thinking "How will this effect that, what will happen if this happens, what will happen if the other thing happens, what's the back-up plan for this, we should consider this angle too," etcetc. Plus I don't think interpersonal relationships as a contributing factor should be overlooked - I think that played a big part in Glass being on NYR as long as he was, in addition to the "knowns" (effort) that AV felt he would get. Glass's personality/demeanor was probably considered a known too.

The decisions might look weird to us as fans with barely even half of a story, but these guys have all those decisions analyzed through and through most of the time. ADA's healthy scratches is an example of that. To us, he was a supreme offensive talent that we haven't seen on our backend since Leetch, so how could they possibly justify sitting someone that was having such an impact game to game? To them, there were things going on that they felt they needed to nip in the bud. And ultimately it seems to have worked with ADA.

What happened on that last goal? Laf centered it and it caromed in off the D? Hard to tell.
There was a behind the net video of that goal that was posted earlier in this thread. Chytil deked Reunanen on the left side, then drop passed to Laf, who then centered it to Chytil, who was now on the right side, for the one-timer.

There’s some really good news watching those goals.

77-8 was even for the night.

looks like Johnson and Bitetto got absolutely rocked as expected. But I see Tony and troubs on for the only goal for and only 1 against. That’s a better story than expected coming out of last night.

I think Chytil got poke checked actually
