If he had not signed Halpern, I recon one of those centers wouldn't have hurt.
Anyway, I still have the same opinion on this as I had on spare playes back in the summer. We have no hole in the lineup as it is. If we sign someone to marginally replace a weak position for us, we get some backup.
But, while we may have weak spots now, its definitely possible that we have a big black hole at one position come dead-line, if you get what I mean. Let's say every player has a tremendous year and everything works for us, and then Staal gets a concussion and MDZ breaks a leg -- we could still contend with a decent LD pickup. You know the soon to be UFA vet type. So I definitely rather keep whatever space we have now, untill the seasons start. As long as possible, if possible.
I mean, heck, lets say we look like a true contender but then Hank goes down. Why couldn't we get like Nabokov or Khabby and still go for it? It would be worth a 2nd roundeer for sure. If we fill up the roster right now, we have no mobility for changes down the road.
We have also made alot of changes, and you never quite know how things will work out. I've seen things work out alot worse than expected in NY before.
My point is just, no sense in making moves now if we can wait a couple of month's. Its practically impossible to tell today what type of backup would be most optimal right before the PO's.
