Stop embarrassing myself? Yup I guess it takes very little to become a great player. McDavid a great player, Crosby a great player, Ovechkin a great player, Draisaitl not so much. He's a very good player but not a great player. This is his first season where he's a PPG player. Stop embarrassing yourself.
Draisaitl has finished in the top 10 in P and PPG in two different seasons. Matthews hasn't finished in the top 10 in P or PPG ever. Matthews is not a great player. Is that how this works?

At the end of the day it always seems that Oilers fans are not willing to part with any decent asset, yet are expecting depth talent to come back in a trade when the rest of your roster is trash and teams know that the Oilers are desperate...the only other option is to wait 3-4 years and groom draft picks and weed out trash players; but Oilers fans don't want that either (nor does McDavid)...so then the Oilers stay status quo and stay in this 13 year funk; with McDavid likely leaving for nothing.

We are willing to trade decent assets, but like every other team with superstar players, we have untouchables. We also don't want to trade our key pieces for futures and question marks, as most people on here want us to do.

Intelligent teams usually doesn't have the holes that the Oilers have, tho. Trading Drai could possibly help you on that. What's the alternative? Statue Quo? Hoping they do something during the Offseason? Continue to tank, for ever?

Stupid teams do the same things again and again, and hope that next year, it will be better. Oilers fans should know that, better than anyone.

So, are our only options trading Draisaitl or doing nothing? I don't see it that way at all. We have a good 1st round pick that we can trade. We have a small amount of cap space that we can use to fill some depth spaces. We have tradeable assets like Larsson and even Nuge if it comes down to it (not that I expect it will, that one just trades a problem on our wings for a problem at C. We have some prospects like Yamamoto who could be available for roster players. The only answer isn't "trade Draisaitl".

Theres one player on the avs that gets Draisait. But let's not kid ourselves, Draisaitl doesn't get him.

Let's put this thread to sleep. Dr Drai isn't going anywhere.

There's not much to say about the Oilers that hasn't already been stated.

Depth and high end talent on the blue line is non-existent.
McDavid, Draisaitl, and RNH are the only players resembling top 6 talent on the entire team.
Goaltending is a massive question mark.

I think it's fair to speculate that after McDavid's remarks last night there more than likely will be massive changes happening in the summer if the Oilers expect him to complete his contract. This is potentially the only scenario which could push Katz to make decisions with ramifications directed at the OBC.

If this does happen and the Oilers fully clean house, is trading Draisaitl a solution to fixing the team? He's hit a career high of over 100+ points and has a contract which could start looking like a bargain if the Matthews deal becomes the gold standard. A trade at (what could be) his highest value could potentially pull a good top 4 defender and a few top 6 players plus picks. There's so many holes that the Oilers have, and I don't know how you fill them without giving up something significant. Does trading Draisaitl become a realistic option to fix them?

This aged well.

He's leading the league in points and has been the best player on the team this season. No debate.

But you wouldn't know that since you don't actually watch the games and just pull hate out of your ass BecAUse oiLeRs.

There's no hate, I just said McDavid is the best player in the world. I just don't think Drai would be as good if he wasn't tailing the best player in the league.

Few packages for fun with the Ducks (assuming Kes/Eaves LTIRetire):

1)
Drai

for

Rakell
Silf
Steel

- Oilers get an entire second line, on great contracts.
- Ducks get a top-tier superstar C to replace Getzlaf for years to come and clear up some of their young winger logjam.

2)
Drai
Nurse

for

Lindholm
Rakell
2019 1st-round (ANA)

- Oil add a 30G+ winger, upgrade on LD to a true top-pairing presence, while saving substantial money. They also add another Top10 lotto pick in this year's draft.
- Ducks downgrade on D but still have a decent Top4 (Fowler, Nurse, Manson, Larsson) as along as the new coach plays more of a 'team D' style. Acquiring Drai speaks for itself and is explained above.

You're not even trying. Both offers are terrible.

**** driving his own line, why would you mess with something thats clearly working? You "driving his own line" guys need to put that to bed.
Agreed. If the team had any forward depth at all it would be seen as the ridiculous argument it is.

But without any depth somehow it makes sense to have two not very good lines instead of one very good line. Sound logic.

Actual NHL depth will fix the team. Until some contracts come off the books this summer, AHL tweeners and Euro question marks have to do.

Only way trading Drai makes sense is if you can get a Lindros like return. Even then, it would probably be a public relations disaster.

I know Chia made some horrible moves, but the Draisaitl contract turned out great.
