Just don't do anything. There is nothing out there that will move the needle. We live and die by how hard this core wants to work and nobody outside the org is gonna change that right now. Or probably ever.

Still a lot of time left until 3pm.

I have a feeling that Tre will pull off a panic move and send the 1st round pick away.

If he does then we know the kind of GM he is.

We are not even getting decent goal tending recently throwing away a 1st rounder is a major risk. if treliving does that then he is as bad or worse than Dubas

Why does it bother you ?
Because to some of us we’re here to watch the trade deadline. If we wanted coverage on that we can tune into CBC. Personally it doesn’t bother me I just find it has no place on trade deadline show.

I will wait to see how Edmundson performs in terms of efficiency.

For my money right now, Liljegren is 100% in my game 1 lineup.
That makes sense.

But, we're going to play a very physical team and Edmunson is a very physical player and we have the same coach who scratched Lilly last year. I have a hard time believing Edmundson wasn't specifically acquired for the playoffs, he's not going to sit I don't think.

at 2:58 last year he traded for Nik Ritchie

That should tell you all need to know

He only made that trade because you know, to fit in

Because I'm not watching today to hear about Women's Pro Hockey and they dynamic of the panel when a woman is one it is stale, everyone is 'behaving' and it's generally uptight. The women giving commentary never have any charisma and it's inorganic, tamed, boring.

It's uptight, serious, performative and makes bad tv/radio.

From what I recall Treliving wasn't happy in Calgary. He wasn't allowed to do GMming. He was told by the owners what to do.

I assume MLSE isn't that invasive or for that matter ShanaCON isn't in his ears and is out there golfing somewhere today and forgot that today is TDL

That’s good, but that only works if our damn stars can put the puck in the damn net when the games become tighter. We got outplayed where it matters. Defensively, and in goal. If Boston can beat our d and goalies consistently, we are toast. Doesn’t matter how much we bully them.
I know. I feel like we're mean and tough enough but we haven't figured out how to apply it to our advantage and use it to determine the outcome of a game.

I don't disagree at all. It's a balance though. We need to also be able to move the puck and get out of the defensive zone with the puck.

We just don't have enough RHD depth to trade him. He's a RFA so maybe this off-season is a better time to trade him if we feel his progress hasn't been good enough.

I didn't think we played scared at all yesterday, in fact, I thought we bullied them around quite a bit.

Our core guys didn't do any of that. Sure Bertuzzi beat up a guy, Domi tried to, and we had stuff after the whistles. But what about our stars?

Id trade cowan + 1st + 1st + minten + whatever for sid. Trade anyone on the team for him.
Not that it would make sense or work, but if Sid did want out I'd be looking at a package starting around JT. Not sure what would have to be added as this is a trade that would have Crosby in the drivers seat so it wouldnt be a straight value trade.

It'll help with the cap complications and be a culture shock to the Leafs. Pittsburgh gets a bit younger and if they want can deal JT at next year deadline at 5.5m for a haul.

Nevertheless, this is fantasy so I won't give it much more thought haha.

The six defensemen for Game 1 are looking to be
  1. Rielly
  2. Brodie
  3. McCabe
  4. Boosh
  5. Edmundson
  6. Benoit
Outside looking in:
  1. Liljigren
  2. Lagessoon
Is Lilly about to get the Sandin treatment to recover some draft capital? It certainly feels like deja vu in motion. Unless someone thinks we're going to scratch Benoit (highly doubt we're trending in that direction)
I think our best solution with this roster construction is to move to 11-7. I'm not typically a fan of it, but i think it makes sense in this circumstance. We need bigger defensemen on the PK that can clear the crease (Edmunson/Boosh), but we really can't afford to lose the mobility on the back end by removing Liljegren. We have more middle-6 forward depth than in previous years IMO, but I'm fine with removing Reaves and/or Gregor to make it work.

Matthews has $52 mil in career earnings already. His next contract is for $53 mil. If he took a contract for $10 mil per, and only made $40 mil, his career earnings would be at $92 mil with another contract to go.... I wonder how much that 10% loss in earnings would really affect his future lifestyle?

Imagine a world, where Matthews, Nylander and Marner all agreed to sign for $10 mil, and what this team could do with an $6-7 mil in cap room. I understand why they don't, but then also don't necessarily understand the greed completely trumping the desire to win... if there is one.
Maybe if Toronto was located in Florida those three might take a cheaper deal the same as Point and Kucherov did at 9.5 million each, but in Canada? No way in hell with our taxes. Between that, weather and being a different country those are some of the major reasons why Canadian teams have such difficulty in re-signing many players or signing free agents because when given the choice most would prefer to be in the US.

Also even if our top guys signed for less it still wouldn't change much if Matthews, Marner and Nylander aren't playing their best, playing tough and are able to take their games to another level in the playoffs instead of often getting shutdown and/or looking intimidated by their opponents. As had been stated many times, the Leafs are going to go as far as their best players can take them and so far the Leafs best players have been underwhelming in many if not most playoff games.

Dubas went from a core in their prime, unlimited resources, hockey mecca of the world to a team with an aging core, no cap room, no blue chip prospects, a disgruntled Sid.

At least he got the fancy dual title that he coveted!

I dont' know if you remembrer, Ottawa Senators had this problem against the Leafs back in the day 2000-2004

They kept adding toughness, they got no where. Because our core and key players were tougher or played tougher.

Hossa,Yashin, Havlat were just soft and didnt' want to pay the price.

Everything for us comes down to our core 4. Are they willing to pay the price. I dont' think they are

it's us. We are the Ottawa Senators
