I would give Bert five years at 4m, but not sure he would accept that. Domi, not so sure, we need bigger and better C.
It will be interesting to see if one or both Bert/Domi resign here especially if they’re offered the same money elsewhere………

I could see us going hard for Stephenson over resigning Domi. We need a centerman who can play on the powerplay and penalty kill, while playing meaningful minute as well.
Stephensonand Wennberg would be my focus as well, have no problem bringing Domi back at same deal to be 2LW
Knies Matthews Marner
Domi Wennberg/Stephenson Nylander
Tavares Minten Jarnkrok

If we lose in round 1 it'd be merciful if it's a definitive loss so the message can perhaps get through about this core.

Obviously I'm hoping for a conference final appearance or further, but if we must lose, I hope it's not another game 7 called off goal where it's a moral victory. Losing in round 1 is embarrassing over this much time, this is a prime team with 4 guys in the top 12 highest paid players, there are no good losses. Stop defending sustained failure. All I'm saying is ŵe should consider swapping ONE of our core four players if we under perform for the 8th time.

I'm fine with not going crazy this trade deadline, as much as I would have liked to go all in, the time to set up the roster for a consistent run will be next season. Assuming you can move Jarnkrok/Kampf/Reaves in the summer you should have $10-15M to get a top RHD and a better RW than Jarnkrok to fill out a pretty young lineup. Ride it to the trade deadline and see what you have.

Knies-Matthews-Marner
Robertson-Tavares-Nylander
Cowan-Minten-??? (Stamkos?)
Holmberg-Dewar-Tverberg/Steeves/Gregor

Rielly-??? (Tanev/Pesce/other)
McCabe-Liljegren
Benoit-Timmins
vet LD/RD cheap

Woll
Hildebeast/cheap vet.

I don't think the Bruins did much of anything at the tdl. I don't fear the bear.

Wonder if moving Ullmark would have been a precursor for a bigger deal in Boston
Word was they were taking about Dubois and LA for him but it never crossed the line.

I think Treliving signs two to three new Dman and I think that Liliegren is gone. we have $24.5M in cap space. if we trade Kampf and Cowan makes the team.

I think so too. Keefe has been rattled by Lilly for years and I doubt Tre loves the guy either. Can't see a place for him post-bridge contract

That is one sad looking line-up.

Perhaps the hope is everyone else gets worse?

With the cap space we’ll have this off-season, it’s important we invest into two defenceman before adding more forwards. If 4 forwards making 11+ million can’t get it done up front, we need to move one of them for multiple pieces up front and spread the wealth.

Put in the prospects and pay all the Capspace into defense.
That might work in the regular season, but when things ramp up in the playoffs their inexperience will be exposed, not many rookies thrive under that kind of pressure, but it wouldn’t be the first time the Leafs have thrown rookies to ghe wolves……..

This is the issue. You’ve already cast blame on the core four for a series loss, and we’re 20 games away from the playoffs. Isn’t that a bit strange?

This unfortunately appears to be asking for too much in too many places (Knies & Robertson in the top six, Minten & Cowan on the team (and as linemates), Timmins only being insulated by a cheap vet or two, a rookie with no NHL experience or a cheap vet as the secondary option in goal).

History suggests they’ll fail again, JT’s decline doesn’t help that’s for damn sure……

I can see a pretty effective fourth line of Dewar - Minten - Jarnkrok next year.

I’m then building the third line with Tavares and Cowan on it.

Im thinking they let Marchessault walk? He is gonna be a ufa this year and 34 next dec. Theres 5 milly....

That team does not care about keeping players because they wanna stay. They churn players to always stay a step ahead in assets and value.

They'll have hard decisions to make but I'd assume they'd have no problem trading Hague, McNabb and Karlsson for picks/prospects/value.
