What are the chances Minten joins the team for a playoff run after his season ends?

The Saskatoon Blades are the #1 team in the CHL. Unless they pull a Leafs, they should be the favourites to win the WHL and then it's the memorial cup.

London Knights are #3 last I checked.

But hypothetically if they get eliminated early, Minten and Cowan will 100% join the Leafs if they are still kicking. They might join the Marlies if they are still around as well for some pro games.

The move to make was to trade Marner for M. Tkachuk. That guy is what the Leafs and Florida needed to get them to the next level. If MT was willing to come here, not only did we not get him, but we also allowed him to go to Florida (same thing with Bennett). And here we are, looking up in the standings and will be lucky to get to round #2 to face them.

Bennet was a big miss when he was available but Tkachuk was never a possibility.

Most likely. Seems until they start losing, teams in tax free states have an advantage over other teams. Even more so over some teams north of the border.

The team needs to start investing cap space into the defense, particularly as JT’s contract expires. They have a nice crop of forwards in the system that could effectively provide ELC value, but the d pipeline is lacking. Focus on free agency and other means to stabilize it

Quite a shallow analysis. They have $22 million in cap space for next season because they only have 12 players signed.

It depend on how you use the cap space. I could sign two Dman for $5M, plus another for $3M, add a center for $5M and have $4M left to fill the 3 spots left( we have 13 players signed not 12).

It only an issue if you want another Tavares signing, which I don't believe is the right idea.

They may never move off this core. Firing Keefe will be their excuse to run it back again next year. The following season, it will be, Tavares' $11m is off the books. After that, we'll have to wait and see but it could be, we fired Tre. And around and around we go until we win a cup or Matty walks,

I would personally look into trading Marner and acquiring two top six forwards in return. Karlsson is a name I can see being available this summer due to Vegas’ cap situation and shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg given his contract length. He’d help replace some of the PK abilities lost by Marner and solve the second line situation playing with Nylander.

You can ask anyone to waive the NMC, but they don't have to.

They can’t play in the minors as long as they are under 20. That’s why so many players get sent back to junior when they’re ready for the AHL. It’s the NHL or Junior. The rule was put in place to support Junior hockey

100% look at the impact he had on a team that went to a strip joint the night before a playoff game, and I believe down 3-0. Loser out, winner in; Florida goes to SCF and is now favorite to win the East.

Because they will never be cup contenders with their most highly paid players being no shows come playoff time. The Bruins and Panthers know how to limit their effectiveness. They are all similar players with high skill but no appetite for physical hockey. Compare them to other team’s best players like Pasternak, Marchand, Kucherov, Point, McKinnon who will go through a wall to win. They care more and play with heart and that’s something our top players don’t or won’t do.

Lots of players with NMC agree to be traded. Tell Marner you’re not re-signing him and maybe he waives it to go to one of the team(s) of his choice. Doesn’t seem like he loves Leaf fans or playing in Toronto anyway.

They can play in the AHL as underagers (less than 20) if their CHL team is eliminated.

This is why many European players can play in the AHL as 18 and 19 year olds (see Nylander and Liljegren for Leafs examples).

See I look at that list...filter to defencemen... and really struggle to see anyone that really fits the bill.

Tyler Myers is 34.

Noah Hanifin is already signed, or seemingly, very likely to sign in Vegas.

Pesce would be solid, but likely to get a bloated contract that will turn bad very quickly, and apparently doesn't want to play in Canada.

Tanev is 34.

Zadorov I think will likely be a Leaf next year, but he's a 4/5 guy.

Matt Roy another "round out the top 4" guy, versus the core piece this team needs.

Nice lineup... but there is a salary cap in this league, which most of your lineup posts seem to forget.

I think Tanev+Zadorov and then whoever fits better between Edmund and Bush would be realistic and affordable.
