That year, the Panthers traded a lot of assets at the 2022 deadline for a few months of Ben Chariot and Claude Giroux, two UFA players who signed with other teams during free agency later that summer. They got swept in the 2nd round by Tampa.

Another natural center for the PK would be good, but I think a bigger need is someone that can have a positive effect on scoring chances game in and out.
In all honesty, is there anything affordable out there that would move the needle ?

As a deadline deal? Probably not. They likely need a 1 for 1 hockey deal to shake this thing up, because right now they’re not good enough to win and lacking picks to develop much.
The Leafs need their Muzzin 2.0 trade. Someone who would arguably be the Leafs best dman and take ice tine away from Rielly.

Look at the Toffoli trade as another example - Toffoli today is a way better player than Foligno when we traded for him.
We paid a premium for past performance.
Gotta ignore the names on the back of the jerseys, and look at what they can realistically give you now, not who they were in the past, and base the trade value on that.
Agreed but I don't think that trade is available right now. Should be a priority this summer (and should have been a priority over the last 5+ summers - we're constantly having the same conversations on the need for a legit top pairing dman).

Like the Toffoli trade from Winnipeg, 2nd line winger @ 50% for 2nd and 3rd is nice work.
Would like to see Toronto find a better 4th line winger then one of Holmberg/Gregor. Apparently they are still in the market in another d-man/forward so we shall see what happens.

This is not the year, there are so many teams that are better. They won't do it but sell sell sell
I don't think we do much more at the deadline. What has this team shown in these last 2 games against the Bruins? How they can be dominated in 2 straight games? Nothing we add will change that our core comes up short when it matters most.
