We've scored 4 goals in the last 3 games and one of our major weaknesses last few playoffs has been scoring depth. He's not going to be a savior but he'd be the kind of forward that could help provide scoring depth.
Boston specifically shuts down the middle of the ice and makes you work to get there... The way around that? Chip and chase and force turnovers by their D-man. Last year, FLA abused our d-man on the forecheck nonstop, chip it into the corners and lay the body to create a turnover.

The reason why Toronto has scoring issues in the playoffs is because they play far to weak and play along the outside. I personally don't think Robertson is going to change that.

I’m gonna say this again: we’re a tougher team than the Bruins. This isn’t the old Bruins. Whether or not that matters, remains to be seen, but the idea that we need to get any tougher is silly. We’re gonna have to learn to score when it matters, and from where it matters
It's wild how obsessed people are with toughness, as though everyone needs to be the 1975 Flyers to win the Cup. Boston is not tough at all. They very clearly showed that the past two games. The Leafs didn't lose to Florida last year because they were scared of Sam Bennett. They lost because they weren't able to adapt, again, to a team that clogged the middle of the ice and pushed them to the outside. If you ask me, that is what they need to solve for.

Looking at all the trades that happened over the past few days. I find it strange that not a lot of 1st were traded despite all the retentions.

Very sensible. I totally agree. We are plenty "tough". It's just our stars need to put the puck in the net for it to make a difference. They still beat us in the scoreboard last night despite all the toughness

I don't necessarily disagree but Panthers scored in transition a lot because they are fast and don't bother with an enforcer or very limited forwards. They have a lot of aggressive forecheckers with plenty of skill through their lineup. Same for Boston really.

Robertson isn't gonna fix it but he'll help add speed and skill to lines that don't have much of it. If there's a reason he's not seen to be capable, then they should sell him while he has a value and he's healthy.

Over reaction to the last decade of butter soft lineups we've iced.

That said, I like Tre trading picks for big dman over Dubas acquiring tiny skilled guys.

Retention is no longer expensive. Teams had to adapt to the cap rising 1 cent per year

Nah Kunin at 50% makes his salary come down to 1.375M. Leafs have enough cap room to absorb all that after Lagesson is sent down and Giordano on LTIR and/or waiving Jones.
Waiving Jones kills the 3 headed monster in goal. Too risky.

Putting Giordano on LTIR may not be ideal either with Timmins on LTIR until the playoffs and Lagesson headed to the Marlies. He should be kept game ready.

Giordano to LTIR or tossing in another late pick for the necessary salary retention are both decent options.

Shanahan is going to come on air from his Ivory tower in New York talking about how we stood pat because we believe in the core 4
That’s how it is though. If the Core Four plays like they did against the Bruins in the playoffs. It doesn’t matter who they get at TDL, it won’t change the fact that will once again be first round folders.

If the obstacle to add a player to help bolster one of the bottom lines is only waiving Jones to make it work -- the decision is pretty easy. Jones isn't going to save the season/playoffs if we lose both Samsonov and Woll to injury either. Wasting 875k of cap space on a press box goaltender is not good.

Giordano has a concussion last I checked and he was already 1 foot out the door in terms of being an every day player.
