  • Shanahan, Dubas safe.
  • Keefe possibly fired. Regular season is on GM. Playoffs is on coach.
  • On Marner - as big an asset as Eichel. Leafs need to recoup assets after going all in.
  • Coming off season is about young, buy low candidate instead of geezers. Except for Spezza who is most likely coming back.
Interesting. Meanwhile, Mr. Boring (Dreger) said nothing will change this summer. Same group. But if this happens again next year....then watch out! LOL

I don't see Jones as a fit that makes sense, being on an expiring contract.

Teams that may make sense:
Arizona - known to be needing a star, also have pieces they can move
Anaheim - apparently Anaheim will be looking to make a big move this summer
Buffalo - Eichel
Carolina - they're always rumoured to be in on big fish and should have the cap if Hamilton walks, along with the pieces to pull it off
Calgary - also should be retooling this summer
Columbus - enough's been said there
Minnesota - also should be looking to make a big move this summer, could be moving a real good D ahead of ED
New Jersey - they need elite wingers, but don't think they have what we'd want
Philadelphia - was in on Laine, Marner is a better version, have tons in the way of win-now pieces
Vancouver - extremely disgruntled group, some guys want out, they'll be looking to make a move. I'd target them and try to get Boeser +
Washington - also retooling hard this summer, don't know if they have what we would want though

This is just a first glance too, and I wouldn't discount Vegas, Florida, Dallas or the Rangers either

We can't trade Marner to Arizona. Might as well pack Matthews bags in a couple years if we do that.

What I would like to see happen is, we sign haula (1 year 1.75m) to play on the third line with kerfoot and maybe gally. Trade holl and sign jamie oleksiak, he can play with reilly and brodie with muzzin. Replace simmonds with luke glendening. Have roberston play in the top 6 or top 9 and sign coleman.

Coleman (3m) - Matthews (11.64) - Marner (10.9)
Roberston (.9) - Tavares (11) - Willy (6.96)
Hyman (3.75) - Kerfoot (3.5) - Haula (1.75)
Mikheyev (1.64) - Glendening (1.5) - Speeza (.750k)

Reilly (5) - Oleksiak (2.5 2 years)
Muzzin (5.625) - Brodie (5m)
Sandin (.9) - Bogosian (1m)

Cambell (1.6m)
Backup (1.5m)

Adds toughness, speed and defense. Reilly can be traded for a different d-man not sure who at 5m but we might have to if hes asking for 7m and don't see a cap rise. Also roberston can be switched with hyman as well.

This team's going to look absolutely dashing while losing 4-1 at TD garden in late April 2022 in game 7.

Seriously not trading a single core piece, having Campbell be the starter with a backup instead of a !A type goalie is not going to lead to us winning anything.

Coleman won't even sign for 3M he's better than Hyman so he's going to make more than that. This leafs team cant beat Boston, Tampa, Ottawa, Montreal, Flordia

Flat cap, going more than 3-3.5M on Coleman isn't ideal.

CJ is as reliable as it gets for this sort of front office insider gossip.

All of it seems fairly logical too.

We have very little cap space to begin with, if we trade marner that would be a massive change to the lineup and have no idea what we will get in return. Coleman will get a raise, not sure how much (4m ?)
With the big 4 still here which i think will happen, this lineup improves our third and fourth line.

whoever takes over from Dubas should trade Mathews to the Yotes, fleece them foa all they're worth and let them have their home town hero. I'm tired of his attitude and "mail it in" performances...........

Danault will make much more than that.
Craig Anderson is pretty done.
That roster sucks.

Are you looking to trade core pieces? Im willing to give them another go but that means spending little to nothing on depth and re-tooling the supporting cast.

While I think the Leafs may make a big pitch to Dougie Hamilton if he hits free agency (who also happens to be my preference), but one think that strikes me about the Jones focus is this team doesn't really need that much help on D. They were averaging less than 2 goals against over the course of that playoff series.

This team needs help to be able to score in the post season more than defend against itb

Seth Jones also contributes offensively and can lead a PP. If he regularly put up 40-50 pts on Columbus, he can probably hit 50-60 points here.

We've done that a few years now, so it's a pretty shitty plan.

What changes are a new GM and President going to make that the existing President & GM can't make?

Dubas has an attachment to Mitch and Keefe and is less likely to move either than a brand new GM would. Not impossible, just less likely to do so.

Bet you can get much more from the Rangers. Bettman would be in heaven seeing Matty in the Big Apple.

That depends on whether or not Dubas has the stones to fire Keefe or trade Marner.

2 necessary transactions that have to happen IMO.

Its on Shanny if Dubas can't pull the trigger on that.

How long does failure get rewarded for here?

If only such plans and decisions could be discussed prior to deciding whether or not to terminate them.

Nope. The post I quoted says none of that matters. If they stay we are doomed, regardless of whether they make the exact same decisions as their hypothetical replacements

It's more, do you trust their judgement, even if they say yea, Keefe/Marner gotta go but then the return sucks...etc.

They will change the core, which is something the existing GM does not seem capable of doing. If he does trade manner ill apologizes and accept I'm wrong but I see him sticking it through with them.

They can also help change the team culture and revert it back to a professional group of players competing to win versus a group of friends who are running the show (Matthews wanting Marner on his line, Marner not willing to play below the line on the PP)

They can help shift the blame away from the players and settle things down as they won't have a bad image/name associated with them as this current Prez/GM(more so Shanny) has led to us being here right now. Media, fans, players, etc. will take talk about changing and becoming a winning team more seriously from a new President and maybe GM versus the current group as this group already has been taken to school by the players several times since they came and are the primary reason we are in this mess with no one giving value to what they're saying right now.

So CJ says Keefe could get fired but his two direct bosses keep their jobs ?? Wow, Dubas couldn't wait to bring in his man and now that his man has proven not to be worthy, Dubas still gets to keep his job and so does his boss. Only in Leaf land, the land of $$$$ plenty.

Bet we are saying the same thing next year when we are knocked out by the Bruins/TB/Florida/winner of the Metro or we do not make the playoffs all together.

Oh well at least Leaf fans will get their pound of flesh with Keefe being the sacrificial lamb. Management trying to appease the masses.
