Trade Marner - I'll at least have some interest again

Yeah, Marner has to go. He is toxic in the dressing room as well.

I'm torn. I think Reinhart is underrated due to both being a Sabre and living in Eichel's shadow (30G/70P player the last two seasons), but Kempe at 2m leaves us enough money to after a Schwartz/Saad + a Coleman/Grandlund and be DEEP.

Kempe with one of their top prospects and then using the cap space to sign a F and maybe another D is way better use of it all. I'd be all for it.

If you add Kempe, Schwartz, Coleman and if the money is there, Granlund or Saad, that would be some good additions

I seriously doubt any of the big 4 are getting traded, especially with someone like Marner's trade value being questionable after his playoff issues

I say keep them all but no more pandering to them, you play where you are told with who your told and if you want to bitch about it you can sit until your attitude adjusts

That's the way I see the team "winning" because I doubt we win a trade for a talent like Marner

I think you can make good arguments for either side of the "trade one of the big four". Changes have to be made, some obvious (like a new goalie), but as you rightly say part of those changes may be from a new riot (ie internal system/expections) act being read to the players.

I think they COULD get good value from Marner though. Guys like him are rarely ever traded (admittedly for good reason) and there will definitely be GMs who would love to have him. The fact that his contract has paid a huge chunk of money out already adds to that value.

Get more talent in the bottom 6.

I would consider moving Marner as he would garner the largest return while also significantly changing the cap situation. But I wouldn't move him just to move him.

You need elite talent back. Not a top 6 and top 4, but either a first liner or a top pair defenseman back. Or a young player who is not currently there, but you believe will get there. Safe to say, that is a hard trade to find.

Marner + Rielly to Clb for Jones + Jenner + leafs 1st??

I don't hate the result, but I think an offseason with 3 different moves of the Rielly/Marner/Cirelli scale is unprecedented, let alone with other moves on the side.

I don't mind moving Rielly at all, but probably not in a deal like this.

kerfoot. Lilly . 1st. Not marner. A 1 year to ufa player gets young ok player with term. Good prospect. First. Not a top 5 scorer.

Agreed. The only way I extend him is if he’s willing to keep his raise within what frees up from kessel’s retention IE no more than 6.2m

I feel you, new blood is always good. I like Rielly a lot and think he's a good mentor and guy to have here bc like Nylander he doesn't get phased by the pressure, but the extension worries me too. I think if he comes in at 7x7 or less I'd be happy, that feels very reasonable to me.

The hope is that with the cap savings from marner to Jones you can still add a top 6/9 W hopefully with some jam and at the same time you bolster the back end with a true all situation #1 D who can drive offence from the back end
