I don’t think any of the Big 4 gets traded but I would switch lines for 34 and 16.

Matthews and Nylander
Tavares and Marner

I would actually try to turn them into 3 lines instead of two.

Matthews
Tavares + Marner
Nylander + Kerfoot

But I don't think it's doable because of cap reasons.

It would depend on who plays with Auston. You need to have talent that can set up plays if you play on a line with the leagues top goal scorer

If that's the plan presented, whoever came up with the plan needs to be fired. It's the definition of insanity.

What gets put around them is the key with contracts coming off the books it’s a chance to reassess

I like these ideas. I've been focusing on Eichel and I forgot that there are other good players who want out of Buffalo.

Someone also mentioned trading with Philly. Something around Konecny. I like that too.
I like the LA idea. The Buffalo one not so much. I like Reinhart but I think I'd need more than a 2nd as an add-on for Marner.

Edit: Quoted the wrong post but my post still stands.

Or just make changes now, they're 0-7 in games they can eliminate the opposing team, you know what they are at this point. Trying to come back with the same group is frankly, stupid. Change some of them out.

The interest in Jones definitely seems motivated more by name recognition than what he's been doing on the ice lately

Great defenseman that analytics crowd has decided to crap on, just plays on a bad team. He'd be loved here so quickly.

Eh Anaheim prob has no interest in moving drysdale or comtois.... and marner doesn’t exactly bring what we’d want, specially those pieces involved.

comtois will be our 1lw to play with zegras, and drysdale will hopefully become an elite top pairing dmen to build around going forward.

not saying we wouldnt be interested in marner but he’s a 10.5 mil winger, that plays a similar style to zegras

Fair enough - that's the kind of deal I would be looking to make for Marner. I think in addition to his offensive production after his signing bonus in summer he's on an absolutely amazing deal to any non-ceiling team in that he's owed much much less than his caphit is. So budget teams are going to like that. I've been a huge fan of Comtois over the last few years and think he'd be a great add for us, but he's not nearly enough on his own. Maybe the deal isnt there though.

And so what would you do. Just make a dumb trade for the sake of change and make the team worse. Easier said than done in a flat cap system moving a 11 million dollar contract

Tons of appeal in a player like Marner, after his signing bonus is paid out, he's averaging around 6M salary owed per year.

Let's not act like he's a hard player to trade, he was top 5 in points.

And also let’s not act like trading a guy who was top 5 in points is a good move. Maybe trading Marner isn’t the solution and the players he plays with are in tougher hockey. He’s to young and talented to be just traded away right now. Let’s trade for Tom Wilson and put him on a line with Mitch. That should give him more space

Disagree - I have seen enough hockey from him in the playoffs. 5 5v5 points in in 32 games or something like that now on top of apparently being unwilling to move around on PP.

What does the team get back in a fair trade for someone like Mitch. Prospects and picks are a non starter so it would have to be good talent that can play now in the same age bracket?

Was bored and played around on capfriendly

Made this team. Probably not realistic to expect so many UFA additions but it sets us up for 1 last run/shot to become a good team next year.

Anaheim has what $50M in cap space? Marner for Drysdale and Comtois. Drysdale is our future Makar, and Comtois slots 1LW. Balance out with fillers as necessary.
Now pretend you’re an Anaheim fan. Why would they do that? It doesn’t make them that much better now and they’re still not a playoff team. Not a chance they touch that trade.

Dubas has a golden chance to fix his cap screw-ups this off-season. He can deal Marner and open up cap space by getting back 1 or 2 small pieces the fanbase won't care as they are fed up with Marner and his BS attitude.

Does Dubas have the stones to deal Marner?

Get more talent in the bottom 6.

I would consider moving Marner as he would garner the largest return while also significantly changing the cap situation. But I wouldn't move him just to move him.

You need elite talent back. Not a top 6 and top 4, but either a first liner or a top pair defenseman back. Or a young player who is not currently there, but you believe will get there. Safe to say, that is a hard trade to find.
