Same, so done with xGF.

Also very done with being outgoalied. Campbell played well but once again we had the 2nd best goalie in the series.

1st goal in game 7 sucked but frankly, he never really got run support after we went up 3-1 in the series.

When we lost game 6 where he was fantastic, I knew we were screwed for game 7, hard to do that back to back nights. Habs team D limited quality shots.

Assume Kerfoot to Seattle
Marner for Reinhart+BUF 2nd, sign Reinhart 7.5 x 6
Re-sign Hyman 3.75 x 4
Re-sign Bogo 2x2
Re-sign Dermott 1x1
Sign Haula 2.75 x 2
Sign Coleman 3.75 x 4

6.15m for the xxx's

That 3rd line can't score. Which is the same problem that has ruined this team for the past 2 years.

He puck hogged, gave it up a lot, played died on his stick. Reduced mobility from knee injuries. Here for a lot of losses and he's not a good LW, he's better at RW. Blake Coleman is the much better addition.

That is a shit return for Marner

Jones extended for Marner as a base.

Or Brady/Matt Tkachuk+ for Marner

Career year for him in terms of offensive output pre-injury. My suggestion if you caught it was Comtois and Drysdale for Marner. Not a shit return at all. Jones is going UFA. Might be something there to Calgary but I cannot see them walking away from Tkachuk via trade AND Gaudreau - which they'd have to do if they brought in Marner.

Haula and Hyman would both be good for 15+ regular season. Haula's had near 30 before. North-South, high speed, pucks to the net, safe to play against anyone in the league.

My big 3

LA- tonnes of assets, have the cap space, have the right mix of forwards to fit him in.
Kempe / 2021 8th overall, Vilardi, Byfield, Turcotte / 2022 1st, Lizotte, Kupari, Thomas, Moore
Ideally Kempe plus one from each group, but Kempe plus 2-3 from the 2nd group wouldn't be the end of the world

Buffalo- tonnes of cap space, looking for financial efficiency, having trouble keeping players. Marner's term and salary to cap hit should be quite attractive to them, could either be a sales pitch to keep Eichel around or a flagship star to soften the blow of losing him.
I'd look for Reinhart+ and give him the Nylander contract

Columbus- Ditto Buffalo reasons. Star with term for a team that can't attract/retain talent.
Jones in a blockbuster 1 for 1 would be the obvious target
I like these ideas. I've been focusing on Eichel and I forgot that there are other good players who want out of Buffalo.

Someone also mentioned trading with Philly. Something around Konecny. I like that too.

Out of the 13 players who have a cap hit over 10 million, only 1 player made it to round 2, Price.

Leafs have 3 out of the 13 players. This isnt basketball, it is a team sport. You cant build a proper team with half the cap spent on like 4 forwards. It was a crazy idea from the very beginning

I have zero desire to see Hyman back. Body is banged up to hell. He's been here for too many failures. You might be able to snag Coleman for the same or less.

He was the best forward on the ice last night by a country mile despite not being 100%.

I think Calgary, LA, Columbus, Buffalo are our most likely trade partners. We’re not going to get value, but a shake up trade with some decent prices coming back, and cap space. This is all we can ask for.

Fire Dubas

Signed JT/Marner/Matthews for 11M. Traded Kadri for Barrie. Traded our 1st for Foligno. He absolutely destroyed this core that had so much potential. Shitty contracts and bad trades have destroyed what was the most promising team in the entire league.

There will be no firings or major trades. You can bank on that. We will just reshuffle the depth pieces like we do every year
That is my guess too. The JT injury will give the excuse they need to try it all again and likely fall to the same fate...

I have a weird feeling we are about to see a Marner + Holl for Jones + Domi type of deal.

I don't mind that at all. You can then swap Reilly for Boeser or something along that line. You need to get Jones to sign a team-friendly deal if you can.

My lines for next season would look something like:

x - Matthews - x
x - Tavares - Marner/x
x - Kerfoot - Nylander
x - Engvall - x

That's 3 lines capable of production with a defensive 4th line.

Internal candidates for top 9 minutes: Robertson (not likely).

Paying Matthews and Marner the same as comparables that actually made it to a cup final or won the cup was always a bad idea.

Takes away any incentive to win if you get paid the same as people who are actually successful. What did Marner and Matthews actually do to deserve those contracts. Some regular season stats (but no rockets, point leader etc) and 3 playoff of getting bounced in the 1st round. Yet they were paid like guys like Malkin who had a dominant 22 points in 20 playoff games right before his contract.

Career year for a pending UFA, I have seen it plenty.

Drysdale is still a gamble, you don't know what he is. Get someone established.

If Jones isn't coming with an extension, don't do it.

Anaheim has what $50M in cap space? Marner for Drysdale and Comtois. Drysdale is our future Makar, and Comtois slots 1LW. Balance out with fillers as necessary.
Eh Anaheim prob has no interest in moving drysdale or comtois.... and marner doesn’t exactly bring what we’d want, specially those pieces involved.

comtois will be our 1lw to play with zegras, and drysdale will hopefully become an elite top pairing dmen to build around going forward.

not saying we wouldnt be interested in marner but he’s a 10.5 mil winger, that plays a similar style to zegras

I would be scouring the league for proven playoff performers. Guys who have the same or higher points percentage in the playoffs as they do in the regular season.

I'm all for trading Marner, but doing so for Reinhart and Konecny types is stupid. Those deals make this team far worse, not better. The guy is a top 15 forward, the return needs to be commensurate with that otherwise you end up in a Hall for Larsson situation.

If the leafs do Marner for Jones, they might as well get started on the rebuild.

Because we just got Dion Phaneuf 2.0.
