How long does failure get rewarded for here?
well, since 1967. Everything's been changed from ownership to mgmt to players to conferences to you name it. Nothing will change without change from Prez on down to huge roster moves. This team needs a top to bottom heart transplant IF you can find the supposed heart of this team...........

It's more, do you trust their judgement, even if they say yea, Keefe/Marner gotta go but then the return sucks...etc.

This series was lost on the backs of Matthews/Marner not performing and Tavares getting hurt. None of which makes you question their judgement. We were the prohibitive favourite. This series was lost on the ice, not the front office. The only way this result is fireable is if there was serious credible dissent in moving forward with Matthews and Marner, and they stuck their neck out to not blow up this core before their 23rd birthdays.

If you don't like the overall direction/health of the organization and team - fire them
If you don't like their plans to move forward from this setback - fire them.
If neither are true and you just want to fire them because we lost and need a scapegoat - you deserve another 55 odd years without a cup

They will change the core, which is something the existing GM does not seem capable of doing. If he does trade manner ill apologizes and accept I'm wrong but I see him sticking it through with them.

They can also help change the team culture and revert it back to a professional group of players competing to win versus a group of friends who are running the show (Matthews wanting Marner on his line, Marner not willing to play below the line on the PP)

They can help shift the blame away from the players and settle things down as they won't have a bad image/name associated with them as this current Prez/GM(more so Shanny) has led to us being here right now. Media, fans, players, etc. will take talk about changing and becoming a winning team more seriously from a new President and maybe GM versus the current group as this group already has been taken to school by the players several times since they came and are the primary reason we are in this mess with no one giving value to what they're saying right now.

0/3.

Don't think they make significant moves as others think they will. I think they dip into the free agency market trying to buy for low and getting a good return. I have Dermott getting taken by Seattle in the expansion draft. Cheap young Dman that has a upside compared to Kerfoot. I think they resign Hyman, he's a piece on this roster we can't afford to lose, perhaps shouldn't be playing on the top line. I think even though soup hasn't seen the production we would like, he's a good PKer and speedy 4th liner that can forecheck well. Not sure if they try to fill some spots in with rookies like Robertson, Anderson, Hallander. One thing is clear, we need a heavier team to play against that can actually play. Players like Jumbo Joe and Wayne were the right ideas, but they need to be able to play fast and hard.

Nope. The post I quoted says none of that matters. If they stay we are doomed, regardless of whether they make the exact same decisions as their hypothetical replacements
I think if Shanny or Dubas got the axe it would signify drastic change.

As a fan right now, can't help feel but drastic change is needed.

Thats why at the very least Keefe and Marner need to go. That's your last bullet for Shanny/Dubas.

After game 5,6,7 I simply sat on my couch in silence for 15 minutes to distance myself from this team so I could fall asleep that day.

Seems like a ridiculous reaction for sports games but this team seriously makes you question what you're doing even watching them

The direction has been relatively stagnant, in a results oriented business where they haven't escaped the 1st round yet, the conversation to fire them should take place.

At most, we're looking at 1 more year.

I don't see Jones as a fit that makes sense, being on an expiring contract.

Teams that may make sense:
Arizona - known to be needing a star, also have pieces they can move
Anaheim - apparently Anaheim will be looking to make a big move this summer
Buffalo - Eichel
Carolina - they're always rumoured to be in on big fish and should have the cap if Hamilton walks, along with the pieces to pull it off
Calgary - also should be retooling this summer
Columbus - enough's been said there
Minnesota - also should be looking to make a big move this summer, could be moving a real good D ahead of ED
New Jersey - they need elite wingers, but don't think they have what we'd want
Philadelphia - was in on Laine, Marner is a better version, have tons in the way of win-now pieces
Vancouver - extremely disgruntled group, some guys want out, they'll be looking to make a move. I'd target them and try to get Boeser +
Washington - also retooling hard this summer, don't know if they have what we would want though

This is just a first glance too, and I wouldn't discount Vegas, Florida, Dallas or the Rangers either

Arizona - Keller + Garland
Carolina - Necas + Neiderreiter + pick

the window is closed if Shanahan is safe.

Dubas getting his third coach now wow...

This management group is going to ruin this franchise
correction, This management group has ruin this franchise............

I think we need to get younger and faster with our depth. More fliers on guys like Verhaeghe and less on washed vets.

Sandin, Liljegren and Robertson need to have regular roles and not be blocked. I liked Bogosian more than I expected but I only want him back if there's a Rielly trade or something to free up a spot.

I was really hoping for a 2nd round series with you guys but unfortunately both of our teams didn't get the job done. I think that overall Dubas has done a good job managing the cap for you guys (outside of the Matthews and Marner extensions) but the playoffs really suck the life out of smaller skilled players because of all of the clutching, grabbing and interference that is allowed. Even McDavid had a subpar series. I know that many are wanting to be rid of Marner, but unless you get an upgrade on him or 2 really solid and useful pieces that are young and signed longer term I think that you keep him and add a hulking winger to open up more ice for him. If you can get Eichel for him IMO you do it assuming that Eichel is healthy. Sadly both your team and ours are in the same boat, trying to find the right mix to compliment our cores. IMO Dubas will do a better job trading to do that than Holland likely will for us.

Apparently Verhaeghe was fully willing to come back to TO. But the leafs spent the UFA period going after Kyle Clifford and then Wayne Simmonds.

So CJ says Keefe could get fired but his two direct bosses keep their jobs ?? Wow, Dubas couldn't wait to bring in his man and now that his man has proven not to be worthy, Dubas still gets to keep his job and so does his boss. Only in Leaf land, the land of $$$$ plenty.

Bet we are saying the same thing next year when we are knocked out by the Bruins/TB/Florida/winner of the Metro or we do not make the playoffs all together.

Oh well at least Leaf fans will get their pound of flesh with Keefe being the sacrificial lamb. Management trying to appease the masses.
Serious question, and I don't know the answers.

What's the average lifespan of a GM over the past 15 years? How about a coach? Maybe we go back to the "Great lockout"

I see 7 coaches and 7 GMs (counting Dubas/Hunter/Shanny combo uniquely) over a 16-season span. That seems like a significant amount of turnover

I doubt Dubas will be axe unless Shanny's job is in question. Dubas still got a bullet left, which is to trade one of the core piece, if he fails-then he is gone. After Dubas is gone, Shanny will be on the clock. Thats why I think Shanny will defend Dubas bc firing Dubas is Shanny last bullet.

Maybe we could work out a deal...Matthews and Marner for McDavid and Draisaitl...:sarcasm:

Interesting. Meanwhile, Mr. Boring (Dreger) said nothing will change this summer. Same group. But if this happens again next year....then watch out! LOL

That's impossible considering the fact that the leafs have 12 guys taking up close to $70M in cap space.

No thanks and that's no disrespect to your players, I just prefer our two to your two.
Well they're much better players so yeah you should lool

I'd offer Marner + Rielly + Robertson for Mcdavid but I'm guessing that isn't enough and we need to add Nylander and take back Kassian/the backup goalie(forgot his name) for it to make sense maybe value wise for the oilers

The 3rd and 4th line cannot score. We're right back to square one.

This is going to happen.
Big Four will stay.
Dubas will sign vets like Getz , maybe even Chara and some other gritty, character vets.
They will be good in the regular season, AM will chase the Rockets while Marner will be the first 100pts Leafs since forever.
They will play Boston in the first round and end up losing in Game 7 again. They will say the same crap that they said now....
Nothing will change. Lol.

For real, I really think a big trade involving Marner is coming and I think it will be good for the team and the Marner.

Can't blame you. One of our so called superstar player who thinks he's Patrick Kane has a grand total of 0 playoff goals in his last 18 games and zero powerplay goals, yes, I am being serious, zero PP goals in his last 85 games.

I don't care what it takes, I just want Marner off this team, I've had enough of his play. I don't even care if he turns around and suddenly breaks all of Gretzky's records in the regular season next year. I want no part of that guy on the Leafs.

No idea but Bergervin has had 8 kicks at the can, and Benning still has a job, so one could argue Dubas deserves more time. On the other hand, Lou has 2 here, the Rangers just fired their Pres., GM and coach after a couple of years and the Sabres have been hiring and firing every couple of years. At the end of the day it should come down to results and copentancy. So far Dubas and Shanny are lacking one or both.
