I'm sorry, but when you are talking about signing players, Lou Lam is not the example you use, unless its for albatross contracts for middle line players
for every decent deal he signs, he signs 2-3 really bad ones
No need to be sorry.

Pulock 2 year bridge straight to UFA blows my mind.
and Pulocks QO is 6.6 and Pelech needs his RFA deal
Pageau at $5x6 blows my mind too, $3x4 for Uncle Leo, $7x7 for Lee after playing major hardball is a bit laughable if you think he wouldnt cave on Nylander/Marner etc
Barzal got $7x3 which only helps increase his value on his next deal. ...$7mil on a bridge is not savings, and in the Trotz system he only puts up Nylander numbers and his QO is $10 million!!

yea, right, when people say Lou was good... at marketing himself maybe!

I’ll give credit where credit is due. Lou is good at getting it all to fit in the short term. But he doesn’t think past 2-3 years in the future and there’s always these red flags looming. The benefit of nearing retirement I guess.

Let's not forget about trading Toews because of the contracts and now Leddy.

Lou Lam wouldn't have caved to Nylander, IMO. That's was the first mistake. Second was signing Matthews before Marner, Lou Lam would have known better there.

So then Nylander sits. Or Lou trades him.

For the second one, you have to assume that Marner was willing to sign before Matthews. For a guy who was so adamant about being paid like Matthews, you really think he would sign first? Just like that long list of RFA's who waited until Marner signed because they were using him as a comparable? Nevermind the fact that Lou screwed Marner over once already on his ELC. Marner was not going to do Lou any favours.

Despite what fans think, GM's don't hold all of the cards, even with RFA's. Especially not with RFA's of that quality. Nylander and Marner were willing to sit. I think it was stupid and selfish, but it is within their right. No GM can force them to sign a contract they don't want to sign, so outside of trading them, their alternative option is effectively punting the season and a year of our young core's prime by sitting them.

Yes, he sits or more likely is traded, for sure he wouldn't have been paid for the games he sat out.
Marner offered to sign 8.5 x 8 and the Leafs declined.
Marner wouldn't have to do Lou favours. Had they not signed Matthews first, Marner wouldn't use that as a comparable.

that was just board speculation, never from any credible source, the Leafs would have done that without thinking twice if ever offered to them

You do realize he offered 8.5x8 to Lou the year prior:laugh:

I know it to be credible but I can appreciate that some don't believe it.

I think Taylor hall at the rumored 6m makes sense. Only 1 million more then hyman and might be able to sign him to less then 7 years too.

1) Traded for what? To who? Who wants to deal with a guy who is sitting because he wants to get paid? Easier said than done, and getting a crap offer for a young core player is certainly a lot worse than having him on the great contract he has for us right now.

2) Never confirmed by anyone outside Simmons, which tells me it is total BS like everything else that comes out of his mouth. If you have a reputable source that backs that up, then by all means post it. I've asked numerous times before, and have looked, and nobody could provide a credible source (and as I said, the only one I could find was Simmons). Probably because it does not exist. They would be pretty stupid to sign early when he knew he would almost certainly be able to demand more after playing a year with Tavares or Matthews instead of Bozak + JvR. Agents and players are not stupid.

3) If he is that adamant about using Matthews as a comparable, he would almost certainly refuse to sign until Matthews signs. He sits and waits. Just like Rantanen, Tkachuk, Point, Barzal, etc. all did with using Marner as a comparable. Lou can't do anything to change that, short of overpaying him a ridiculous amount based on what Marner thinks Matthews was worth (which likely results in him valuing himself like McDavid), or letting him take an offer sheet like Carolina and Aho, which Marner did not do.

Landeskog a Leaf??

would you do it ?

Hyman walks, and Kerfoot is drafted by Seattle. Do you go all in on Landeskog?

I say yes. His wife is from Toronto. So who knows. Salming was his dads favourite growing up.
I do it in a heart beat.
