Its funny how people always say the leafs will need to trade one of the big 4 to make some room. Realistically its either marner or nylander. Matthews is never going anywhere and tavares literally cant go anywhere.

Hedman had a rocky start to his career though, were talking about 7-10 year hindsight before he was considered the #1 of that draft.
Even now, he'd go #2 to Tavares ...i dont know how this guy can be so savagely underrated all the time.

Including the Leafs among those teams is more about views than any sort of reality.
The way it's worded it sounds like those are the teams Landeskog wants to play for if he makes it to free agency, not teams that are interested. Most of those teams are near the cap limit with players to sign, Tampa Bay is over the cap and has 17 players signed. Of those teams St. Louis and Florida have the best chance to offer him what he's asking for.

Fairly sure they will just let Seattle take Allen at that point. Not like there are not solid backups available in UFA
if i'm Seattle, i dont even look at Allen, but, try to scare MTL into giving up assets to stay away.
there are far better goalies going to be available than Allen

If Hyman signs with Edmonton. Noodles is going to change his tune on him. Leading up to it, he would be down on Hyman and say he leaches off of top players. If he signs with the Oilers, Noodles will say Edmonton got a very good player for only money.
If they are willing to give him 5.8+, good for Hyman but thats an awful contract. I don't want to see us paying that.

We should definitely try to acquire McCann if Pittsburgh is leaving him unprotected.

Burke always loved Mikheyev when he was on TV, make it happen.

Really in general we should be targeting vulnerable forwards since we're in a good position protection wise.

I played with capfriendly. They can sign Landeskog at 8M without moving Rielly if Kerfoot is taken in expansion and they can sign a backup for around 2M and a couple forwards for around 1M for a 21 man roster.

I'm very curious to see what someone like Saad is going to sign for. Think he could be a good fit on our first line for the money we thought Hyman would've gotten from us.
although i was thinking about Saad also, i then looked at some of his stats, like 'hits' and he only had 16 last season and a career high of 53 ...Marner had more hits at 23, only Nylander hits less on our team
he may be a good name, but, may not be a good choice.
/edit as far as production/potential/price and 'intangibles' go Coleman should be our #1 target, but, he may be in high demand

I've been a fan of McCann for a long time. I think he makes a lot of sense. Without any spare picks, might be hard to pull off though.

I wonder how management *truly* feels about Engvall/Mikheyev and their contracts, especially relative to Kerfoot. Because looking at options in UFA, if you see the pair as 4th line players/ 3rd fiddle on the 3rd line that you can replace at 900k-1m because of the flat cap the angle might be to use Soup to get Seattle to take Engvall. Saves almost asmuch cap as you could reasonably hope to replacing Kerfoot.

If that were to happen I'd like Cogliano at a mil or less to be in that 4th line LW/C rotation, strong defensive and pk ability.

Those rumoured numbers for that Hyman contract.... Yikes. Why did we get stuck with all the kids that wanted to be paid an insane amount?!?
We created them.
….. now bff Dubas will watch an opportunity to sign landeskog pass us by because he promised Marner and Nylander he wouldn’t trade them.
Can’t we expose Dubas in the expansion draft?

Cogliano has been bad for a while. He is a speed guy and in his mid 30s, he has lost that step that made him effective. He probably will trade Engvall, but I doubt he moves Mikheyev and I doubt he moves Engvall for cap reasons. It will be because we want someone better for our 3rd line and we don't have any room on our 4th line.

Nope, but he's definitely down shifted from solid two way middle sixer to 4thline defense/pk specialist. Takes heavy defensive minutes and has been a big part of a strong defensive team. Can't play up the line up any more, but could make a Spezza/Simmonds C/RW combo playable
