They might be wondering how good is Landeskog in reality? Prior to Mack becoming a top 3 player and Rantanen turning into an elite top 10 winger Landeskog was a 55ish point winger which was nearly identical as RNH from 2011-2018 time period (RNH had 313 in 463 games from 2011 to 2018, while Landeskog had 341 in 503 games)

8 years and 5.125 is low but if Avs want to set a hard line for future negotiations its a good strategy. They don't view him as more than their 4th best player in the very best case and in 2 years or so he's down to 6th or 7th as Byram and Newhook emerge

I agree. Colorado has always been notorious for short changing their players. Hopefully he becomes available. Would far rather Landy at 6.5 vs Hyman at 6 and I absolutely love Hyman. But there is no comparison in the 2. Both are phenomenal players, but Landy is clearly a cut above Hyman.

Honestly I am happy for Hyman. Would love for him to take a discount to play his entire career as a Leaf , but ultimately he deserves a big payday. He has done everything right since coming into the league. He will be a guy I cheer for regardless of what happens. I think he's got a lot of game left personally, but I just cannot see him fulfilling what he is asking for in a contract personally

There will be teams on the open market probably offering way over $6.5M for Landy.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if Mackinnon went short-term when he re-signs.

Though they're trying to contend now, especially with Mac still on that cheap deal. Going to be quite the blow if he walks.

Imo he's a legit first line player. Should be worth at least 6-7 mil

ya you're probably right on that. I was just using what COL has offered as a reference. But ya I agree he has earned a 7M+ deal. A touch scary to give a player who plays as hard as him at his age, but man that guy does not lack character. Hard to find that or put a value on that

He'll get that from some team for sure. If the Avs let him go wonder if they look at trading for a top LW or maybe look at Schwartz as a cheaper alternative to Landeskog
 
I can see 4mil/8 years from the Leafs, but 5mil/8years is crazy. Nuge just signed a bit over that and Nuge is more useful
 
That contract is gonna be terrible in 3 years. I'm glad DUbas is staying away. Looks elsewhere. You can find another Zach Hyman for cheap

Sounds like Hyman very well could get 6 mill a year for 7 years.

Hard to imagine Landeskog doesnt get 7 for 7 years at least.

Agreed. There is absolutely no universe in which he deserves that. Why do all players push the leafs to the limits in contract negotiations, like zero give, if you want 8 and nmc then it should be for 4 not 5 are you insane?

That means he wants 6 plus at 4+ years. He's simply not worth that. It's been fun Hyman, i wish you luck, but that would just be silly to sign either of those.
