As bad as Barrie can be, old man Keith is definitely worse. Barrie can at least help run a PP.

This is a 5 million dollar anchor on their bottom pairing, and they're probably going to give him top 2 minutes.

You're probably look at something like this;

Nurse-Larsson
Keith-Bear
Russell-Bouchard
Lagesson

Not sure on Klefbom's status for next season and Bear could be a Kraken.

Klefbom being healthy bumps Keith down a pairing.

That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.....they had to sign Dermott simply to have a D to expose. So trading him puts the Leafs into a situation where they need to acquire a D just to be able to expose.

If the Leafs get a good player, he may have to be exposed - and then get selected, and if the Leafs get a fringe player who doesn't get selected, then they wasted a roster spot and cap space.

I don't see a clear avenue for a trade here.
if that's the actual reason, that means the Leafs are going 4-4-1, because under 7-3-1 exposing Holl was enough.

We had Barrie and he was worthless in the playoff and we were out ...Oil had Barrie in the playoffs and he was extra worthless, and they were swept out. ...I dont think Keith could be worse if he was playing on rollerblades than Barrie was in the playoffs the last 2 seasons.

To me I am shocked that Sandin is not a good skater. I know he will get over power due to his size but he is not quick at all. That’s going to hurt him in the NHL.
I don’t think he is crap but definitely not the top pairing Dman we thought.

Sandin not being a good skater is a bullshit idea.

He's got good agility and he's deceptive.

he's too weak... thats one reason i prefer Lil over Sandin, he is more physically ready and more responsible defensively

It seems that way because most people saw him play against the Habs. Notibly
I think people forget the Habs are a very good skating team

Especially Byron, Suzuki and Caufield. Even Anderson is a very good skater and they keep coming at you
That's overwhelming for even Rielly. Sandin needs to play and play more.

Kenny Jonsson was never an elite skater but he was a remarkable D

They're developing into completely different type of players.

Sandin's transition play is already close to being the best on the leafs. Liljegren is trying to play a more simple, responsible game in the NHL.

Anderson is a good straight line skater but his edges and turning ability are below average to say the least.

I'm sure Dubas' dumbass is going to sign Sam Gagner as a 4th liner and see it as an upgrade on a guy like Thornton

Think that trade is okay for the Oilers (not sure about their overall cap situation). They were the better team last season and going there could help Keith's numbers a bit. The Cup wins and playoff experience gained probably won't hurt either. Good for the Hawks as well if this provides them with the inside track on acquiring Seth Jones.

Yep. I believe 4-4-1 was the original intention. But now they could go either way with the recent signings of Simmonds and Spezza - which gives them 8 qualifying forwards and the ability to expose one.

no, you mean you want a healthy Folino at the right price.
I don't think he's any more injury troubled than Hyman. Does all the same things as Hyman but hits and fights more and will be cheaper. If he wants to come back, I think he's an obvious add. We didn't get a great preview and it's left some sour

The trade is bad because they probably had all the leverage and still couldnt get chicago to retain.

I have been listening to the Edmonton media guys along with the TSN people beating this drum for the last week. Keefe basically takes Klefs spot who will get dealt or not protected or LTIRed. Also DK is almost guaranteed to be #2 pairing with Larsson as the word is a lot of his challenges this last season may have been related to rotating inexperienced battery mates so the Oil want to put him in a position to succeed. Maybe if 2019-20 Bear shows up again they juggle things into the season. It does make sense they won't try to carry Keith's full hit as well as Klefbom's $4.1M because they still need to add probably 2 forwards.

Hyman is getting 4 years or more wherever he signs. Foligno is maybe a 2 year guy and that's real separation when you consider Hyman will also command the higher AAV. Of course it might come down to nickels and dimes with the Leafs money situation and he goes back to Columbus for an extra $500k that Dubas just doesn't have. I don't know how appealing it would be to Nick to end his run with a non contender though and his wife is a Sudbury girl so going north for a couple years might be an easy sell.
