Evidently Ben Pope (not sure who that is) is reporting no retention on Keith...

Oh boy lol

Oh Holland, not a fan at all of that trade, especially with no retention. Almost like he decided to do the Hawks a favour!

There is a logic to wanting to milk that last bit of hockey that Keith has left, but that's an awful lot of wasted capspace given the type of on ice impact he has at this stage of his career.

Who thought hiring Holland was a good idea? He destroyed the Red Wings after the stars aged.

When things make such little sense there is probably more to it.

Yes, he looks lost in the d-zone, at least if the puck is being cycled. But I don't think there are many 20 year old d-men who are confident and intelligent transition players like Sandin.

It is very much our fanbases character to overhype guys but it's also in our character to jump off the bandwagon after 2-3 mistakes in the playoffs.
To me I am shocked that Sandin is not a good skater. I know he will get over power due to his size but he is not quick at all. That’s going to hurt him in the NHL.
I don’t think he is crap but definitely not the top pairing Dman we thought.

If Jamie was on Overdrive, he would still say it's a great trade for Edmonton.

Hayes: What is Holland doing? How does this make sense for Edmonton?

Noodles: Hold on now. Edmonton wants to win, right? Well they brought in a winner. He'll help mentor the young D and his locker room presence will be much needed for the team.

Hayes: But can he play in the top 4 at age 38? Seems like the cap space could've been used on better assets.

Noodles: Duncan Keith is a 3-time champion. That's priceless.

so after the Oiler deal for Keith. Chicago people are saying is the front runner for Seth Jones and his brother is the lure. Heard already it could be Chicago #1-11th overall, Dylan Strome, and one of Chi young D like Beaudin.

If that does happen I would talk to the Hawks about Kerfoot as they would need some help upfront in the top 6/9

Crazy as it sounds I would take a shot at Alex Nylander. Can you imagine both Nylanders flanking Tavares on a line? Younger Nylander might be worth a gamble ala Galchenyuk. You save a little over 2.5 million on the cap. Bonus is Nylander is not up for the expansion draft.

Hawks have an open slot to take on Kerfoot so it works out for both. Hawks are looking for a rebound with Toews coming back. Leafs gamble on both Nylanders lighting it up with Tavares.

You can then slot Robertson in the top 6 with Matthews and Marner.

You then build out your 3rd line with Mik on one wing and all you need is a C and LW who can play a heavy game.

they saw what Webber brought (except his shot only hit players and not the net) and thought Keith is better, he won Cups!

The other thing is they’re ostensibly replacing Barrie with an old Keith. So are they better off or back at square one?

No need for Kerfoot on Chicago, even if Strome+11th+Boqvist+?? went they can still run...

Kubalik-Toews-Debrincat
Suter-Dach-Kane
Nylander-Borgstrom-Connolly
Hagel-Gaudette-Kampf
Carpenter

Now could the bottom 6 use an upgrade? Probably. They'd have a ton of cap. Maybe re-visit Saad all over again or look at other options like Hall or a good 3C like Wennberg or a stop gap such as Stastny.

2nd or 3rd would be a great return for someone we think could be gone for nothing anyway.

That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.....they had to sign Dermott simply to have a D to expose. So trading him puts the Leafs into a situation where they need to acquire a D just to be able to expose.

If the Leafs get a good player, he may have to be exposed - and then get selected, and if the Leafs get a fringe player who doesn't get selected, then they wasted a roster spot and cap space.

I don't see a clear avenue for a trade here.

As bad as Barrie can be, old man Keith is definitely worse. Barrie can at least help run a PP.

This is a 5 million dollar anchor on their bottom pairing, and they're probably going to give him top 2 minutes.
