Bertuzzi is top of my off-season wish list. His style is much needed. And I think his offensive stats would blow up here in our top 6.
Haven't heard anything linking us to DeBrusk as some others have been talking about, but I'd definitely be happy to have him too. Seems like he needs a change of scenery, but likely hard to get a rival in Boston to do a deal with us.

Kessel's the only one who's put up compelling playoff performances out of that list. I'm not judging them based on cup wins but the reputations they have developed as being playoff passengers and being very passive players lacking intensity.

Obviously that matters less for a middle-6er like Debrusk but I'd rather spend a little more on someone with a more intense pedigree. If Bergeron and Chara couldn't help him figure it out, I doubt our leadership will.

Yeah, I don't really know why Boston is souring on DeBrusk so I can't comment too much on the downsides. He always seemed like a rambunctious, greasy player with a pulse which would make him a unique asset on the Leafs (unfortunately).

Tyler Bertuzzi could blossom a la Darcy Tucker here.

Howard Berger...take this for whatever it's worth. Exciting none the less. Would be a major shakeup. We would have money to offer Hall 5mil with some term if that's what he's after too.
Bertuzzi-Matthews-Marner
Hall-Tavares-???

Much different looking top 6. I actually really like Nylander. Loved his playoffs, and think his contract is definitely not the issue. But I have to say...he's no Bertuzzi. And we need a facelift. Bertuzzi and a first round pick for Nylander? If you think you can get Hall too ..it makes even more sense. Hall makes no sense imo if Marner & Nylander are both back. Maybe re-sign Galchenyuk cheap to play on that second line

i wouldn't take any gossip Berger peddles seriously.

Seems weird to me that the answer to the Leafs cap imbalance is to trade the middle class guy who showed up in the playoffs. I like Bertuzzi but after all these years the return we get is him for breaking up the Big 4, it doesn't seem like that's the answer.

Even Red Wings fans don't think so. They seem to think Sandin, but also believe Robertson "won't be an option." Not sure if that means they don't want Robertson or they think he's too valuable.

There does seem like theres some smoke around Bertuzzi, I hope the Nylander thing is bull**** though because that will piss me off

If the Leafs traded Nylander for Bertuzzi, there would be a ++ from the wings.

Those would want to be some damn good +'s to make that work value wise

If the leafs trade Nylander for Bertuzzi I'm waiving in the white flag. Will be a bitch move on my part but I'd have no choice but to become a Seattle fan at that point

If you trade Nylander your getting a core piece in return with term

Not a Zach Hyman upgrade

If the Leafs trade Nylander (its Berger so not likely) the leafs would get back much more than Bertuzzi. If that happened it would look something like

Nylander for Bertuzzi + 1st + cap space used for a UFA possibly Hall.

#6 OA + Bertuzzi for Nylander would make sense in a world where they strongly feel that they can sign Hall for less than Nylander’s 6.9 mill salary.

Imagine adding Debrusk and Bertuzzi in one off-season. Maybe snag Goodrow and Bonino in FA. Move out Holl, Mikheyev, Engvall - Kerfoot in expansion.

This would fit under the cap. I project it at under the cap by 132K

Debrusk - Matthews - Marner
Bertuzzi - Tavares - Nylander
Goodrow - Bonino - Anderson
Simmonds - Brooks - Spezza
Semyonov/Other

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Liljegren
Dermott - Bogosian
Hutton/Other

Campbell
Raanta/Other

Obviously emulating that TB third line would be ideal.

I believe in Mikheyev and Engvall, obviously they aren't at the level near Goodrow/Gourde/Coleman but their speed + size + tenacity makes me believe that we can emulate that TB line in some lesser form.

The question, who can we acquire to play on the wing/in the middle on that line to help round out that line? The few games that Hyman played there, that line was always on the puck or playing in the team's zone. Just lacked finish for the most part.

Someone like Warren Foegele would be appealing. Issue being it would require assets to acquire him + probably around 3 million in cap space.

Michael Bunting is also another appealing piece for that line. Young, won't cost a whole lot and is UFA.

I would love to bring back Josh Leivo as well, but not sure if he would be a great fit on that line. Although, he would definitely help with the lack of finish on that line.

Would Hughson be better at his job doing Leafs games if DeBrusk joins the Leafs to avoid getting his ass kick by another DeBrusk? That’s the question.

I am one of those who think Soup and Engvall can be effective players for the Leafs. They just need another player on that line to lead them. When Hyman was there, that line was fantastic and there were times in the playoffs where those two with Simmonds were just crashing and banging- non stop.

I like those options for wingers, but who fills in for 3c?

Screw all this talk of Bertuzzi and DeBrusk

The guy we should be ringing every day on is Connor Garland, he isn't big but he's bloody good and I think we could get a decent contract with him because we can bonus and front load the hell out of it

The Coyotes would struggle to do that

I would rather trade for Sam Bennett ( 2.5 mil ) than Debrusk ( 3.7 mil )

Bennett always brings it in the playoffs .

Anderson I don't see him being ready for the NHL .

Either

Brassard 1.2 mil

or

Bobby Ryan 1.2 mil seems to have cleaned his problems sorted out.
